Here is a debate over the term "Aryan" and how it should be properly used. Which party is in the right here? Surprisingly, instead of the usual shit tier tactic of /pol/ which sees that the non-whites automatically lose, there seems to be a clearly defined divide. One person even said he was convinced and changed his beliefs.
Note: please, mods, don't delete this thread because I am linking to /pol/, the purpose is to better understand the definition of "Aryan" and how it is applied to Germanics/Nordics versus, say, Indo-Iranian peoples. Even I am confused, stumbled upon this thread and wanted some clarification by /his/torians.
All aryans ended mixed, but the guy on the pic is closer to one than some potato headed european.
>>2706859
I see
>>2706644
Aryan is a term from Indo-Iranian, it always and only meant "Indo-Iranian language speaker". The Nazis mistakenly thought it was also applicable to the European branch of the Indo-European languages, but they were wrong and no academic has ever used the term to mean anything but "Indo-Iranian".
Why was this man so mysterious?
Why did he rise to the top so quickly?
By every account he seems to have been an ordinary, mild-mannered, type that you'd expect to find in some small-time bureaucrat's office filing paperwork.
>>2706441
>>2706441
Rise to the top? He was basically given the SS. He was a bitch ass chicken farmer who squealed when he actually had to see a mass execution for himself.
>>2706880
Then that begs the question why he was given the SS. If he was such a milquetoast, why didn't he end up in the proverbial bureaucrat's office?
Did the societies of the past treat women "right"? What gave rise to sex equality ideology?
past societies didn't treat women in any uniform way
>>2706391
>What gave rise to sex equality ideology?
industrial revolution. Gender roles are less important in a society where reproduction and survival are guaranteed.
Women are genetically predisposed to live safer lifestyles because they are both physically weaker and can be used in reproduction less often than a man can be used in reproduction and are therefore best left at home in a society where survival is not guaranteed.
Our society and advanced machinery make all of that meaningless. Unless we all get btfo by some cataclysmic event and have to do a "soft reset" men being manly and women being oppressed (for their safety) is no longer a necessity. Is what it is
>>2706403
Well, in your opinion, which societies did "well">
which has allowed Christianity to achieve Separation of Church and State and massive reform
while Islam seems like it hasn't been able to achieve that (Turkey was close, but look at it now)
>allowed it to achieve
you mean rendered it weak and susceptible to corrupting influences?
in Islam the Koran is the literal word of God that cannot be altered or criticized in any way
Christians, historically, never had a literalist view of the bible, it was always seen as an inspiration of the word and god. Which is why Christians have always been more flimsy literally picking and choosing which books go into the bible
>>2706312
>ignoring the wars of religion
>ignoring the 30year war
>ignoring the mass immigration of pilgrims to the new world
>pretending that a political reform in turkey is the same as a theological reform

Hey guys, I've started making random videos of visiting historic places, and a friend told me, now that I'm in the UK, that I should go to monuments supporting the British in the American Revolution.
We have a bunch of pro-independence memorials in the US, but what is there to do here in Britain? The main thing I've found is the crypt of Benedict Arnold, which is practically obscured by a fish tank in the basement of a church in London that's used for preschool.
Suggestions?
>graves of Army officers
>monuments to those involved
>birthplaces
we aren't interested in the war in the uk
partly because we lost
partly because its not interesting
there's not much
>>2706147
That's the point. I'm planning on going to a few other places in the UK to do with history, military parades to wars that the UK prefers not to remember and stuff, but at the time there was a big stir about the war. It's a part of history that's kind of being lost.
>>2706131
The main obstacle you're going to run across is that the British overwhelmingly do not care about the war of independence. There aren't many of us who have any kind of opinion at all, and the ones who do have an opinion will either only be pro-british out of some vague pride, or pro-american because you can't expect people to wait like a year for a message to return from across the Atlantic. Modern anti-american sentiment stems more or less entirely from modern things like Iraq, tourism, and Donald Trump (we largely don't hate him like some of you do, we just think he's a bit silly)
That said, if there are any memorials then they're likely in London. Honestly I wouldn't bother travelling to the UK for this.
That is, what if the Romans figured out that every individual’s fingerprints were unique to that person and could be used as foolproof identification?
What effect does this have on the Roman administration/bureaucracy?
What if the Romans invented
>gunpowder
>synthetic insulin
>manga
>flying buttresses
>portable bic lighters
>the company IBM
>petroleum jelly
>ballpoint pens
>the theory of relativity
>pesticides
And how would it have changed the empire? Would it still be around today?
>>2706196
LOL, no.
A historical "what if" thread is not appropriate for any of those boards, /his/ is where it belongs.
because the invasion of italy was a slow and difficult theater
the invasion of france is popular in the us because it was so massive. it is popular in england as its symbolic of them returning to fight again, like churchill said they would.
>>2706098
Underrated by whom? By the average person? Their opinions don't matter - they only know four or five bullet points about WW2.
>>2706138

i don't give a fuck about sicily
Why does Western powers, specially the United Kingdom and the United States, always support the Muslim side in civil wars between Christians and Islamists?
>civil war in Nigeria between Christian Igbos and a Muslim-dominated military junta
>the West supports the Muslims
>war in the Caucasus between Christian Armenians and Muslim Azeris
>the West support Azeris
>war in the Balkans between Christian Serbs and Muslim Albanians and Bosniaks
>the West supports Albanians and Bosniaks
>civil war in Ivory Coast between supporters of Christian politician Laurent Gbabo and Muslim politiciann Alassane Ouattara
>the West supports Ouattara
>civil war in Syria between a dictator that defend Christians and moderate rebels who want to slaughter them
>the West support the rebels
It's too consistent to be a coincidence.
>>2706012
Pragmatism over ideology, same reason Austria defender of the faith allied with Protestant GB
>west unilaterally supported the Muslims in the balkans
You do realise it was a proxy war between the president and the papacy right
would you back the losing horse?
>>2706021
Actually, that's exactly what the West does. It backs losing horses and put down competent peoples like the Igbos and Tutsis so Third World countries stay always shitholes whose only export are refugees.
Why did Russia fail to have their own IT revolution during the soviet era?
It seems like exactly their thing, with them being good in math, physics, space stuff, hacking etc...
Yet they totally failed at it. Why? Pic unrelated
>>2705972
Shitty bureaucratic state that had too much to micromanage
>>2705972
they did
they had cellphones in cars or carried around in briefcases in the 70is and so on, used a lot of computers they produced and programmed, they had programmers and IT guys and everithing
they had no market for it tho
besides they didnt realy aim at comercial use, state use, military or space aplications at most
i mean a russian invented tetris remember
All those Russians moved to the US
If Christ's crucifixion, death and resurrection were necessary to the salvation of mankind and all who believe in him (and therefore ultimately a good thing)...
...then why-oh-why have there been historical resentment and hatred of the figures of Judas and the Jews and the Romans, those either directly or indirectly implicated in Christ's crucifixion? After all, the killers of Jesus, through their actions, literally made possible the salvation which Christians hold so dear.
>>2705921
>then why-oh-why have there been historical resentment and hatred of the figures of Judas and the Jews and the Romans, those either directly or indirectly implicated in Christ's crucifixion?
but there isn't historical resentment of Romans due to this. the gospel accounts themselves try to wash pilate's hands of it and turn your hatred to Judas and the jews
>>2705937
The question still stands, and can just as easily be directed at any of the three entities suggested in the OP. To sidestep one in favor of the other is thus a banality when the /real/ question remains active (and, by the way, un-answered as of yet) in any case.
>>2705921
Generally people who did the Jew slaying like the Rhineland massacres don't care that much about the details of Christian theology or hate Jews for other reasons. I don't think anyone hates the Romans, they just look bad in reenactments because of the torture inflicted on Christ. It's hard to show someone whipping and impaling a man in a positive way.
Hi you guys, can you post here face reconstructions of historical figures? I know it's a bit odd but I'd just love to see how some of them (probably) really looked like. If you don't have any you can still help by posting your most interesting historical photos (with description). I have nothing in return but my gratitude. Thanks in advance

What does /his/ thing about the principle of Ahimsa?
Everyone should abide by it
>>2705890
we don't
>>2705890
Explain Ahimsa to my friend who has never heard of it, totally isn't me, and thinks it looks Indian in some way.
Was he really that bad?
I do not know but I would like to learn more about him.
One of the greatest presidents of US
>>2705802
Bad according to what standard? That depends entirely on by what criteria you judge a president, and by what your political beliefs are.
What exactly about slavery is inherently wrong?
>>2705721
There's nothing inherent wrong when there's nothing inherently right.
If you have a basis for what is considered right, then we can point out what could be wrong with it. Otherwise, in a blanket vaccum, all you're doing is begging the question.
>>2705721
Nothing.
Do you want the edgy reasoning behind that answer or the still-edgy-but-less-provocative reasoning?
>>2705721
Nothing at all is wrong about it. There is no objective basis for morality.
Can we take a second to appreciate Hebrew? The fact that an ancient canaanite language that was dead until the 19 century is now the first language of an entire modern nation is insane.

Such a beautiful language
>>2705651
It was never completely dead. You have a small continuation of its use for things like theology and personal correspondence.
