What was Hitler up to in the years between his release from prison and becoming Chancellor? Was he a backbencher MP in the Reichstag? Did he get into petty debates with other members of the Reichstag? Did he have personal negotiations with Franz Von Papen trying to form cabinets? Easy. Give Kosovo to Albania, and then simply draw a line somewhere between Zagreb and Sarajevo, giving each state enough land to prosper. Have an open borders treaty between Croatia and Bosnia, and forcibly deport muslims, serbs, and croats who just happen to be living in the wrong nation. What does /his/ think of this guy? He's written stuff like "Lies my Teacher Told Me" and "Teaching What Really Happened". I read a little bit of "Lies" and kind of liked it, but that was years ago. Now, I'm looking back and he seems like kind of a crock.

Be honest, /his/: am I being too critical of this guy?
Also: how many experts from other fields write history books? I mean, I know that a lot of the material we usually deal with is interdisciplinary, but these authors always seem to operate on some moral prerogative and make some point on human injustice. Thoughts?

I just really don't know what to make of this guy. Did anyone ever read completely through "Lies my Teacher Told Me?" How was it? My friend once told me his honors English professor asserted that slaves were valued as being worse than cattle, the whole class disagreed with her. She ended up bringing in a graduate student to talk about slavery his next class. A student asked him point-blank the question, and he elaborated that the idea that slaves would be so undervalued was stupid, so the professor wasn't too happy.

Slaves weren't permitted anywhere near prestigious monuments. In general these building projects existed to provide paid work for people during the periods when farming was impossible (due to the annual flooding of the Nile), so there would be no point setting slaves to work on them anyway.
