>Vikings were the first Europeans to discover America
true, although there are stories that St. Brendan, an irish monk, may have travelled the North Atlantic and arrived either at Newfoundland or eastern NA
however, most believe that he arrived at a small island off the coast of north africa
>Romans were smaller than other people
of course they were, most people around the Mediterranean were shorter than northern europeans
>Napoleon was short
yes, it's generally agreed he was ~5'5"

I recently came upon statement, that hating or generally being rude online is a good way to somehow give vent to negative emotions. Thanks to this, one would not blow off steam in real life and get rid of all negativity in a non-harmful way. Any opinions?
kill yourself faggot
My opinion is that this is a pointless thread and &Humanities was a mistake
And I'm negative IRL even after being negative online so it's not cathartic for me

What? We can't just have one board for Hitler-worship threads! You're worse that Hitler!
Was there ever such a thing as a Moriarty - a "Napoleon of Crime"? I'm not talking about mob bosses, or drug dealers, I'm talking about someone who seemed extraordinarily gifted in criminal endeavours and built an empire based on that knowledge without just resorting to force of violence and thugs.
>>2714995
If you ask the communists, its the capitalists and financiers.
But truly, no. Unless you're some kind of serial killer or Anton Chigurh level hitman. Violence is necessary or present in almost every criminal endeavor, whether by the perpetrator or competitors.
>>2714995
>without just resorting to force of violence and thugs.
But Moriarty used those.

>>2715002
Yes, I see your point, and once I posted it I kinda regretted that I hadn't explained it better. Allow me to rephrase it as ".... an empire based on that knowledge without just solely resorting to violence like drug kingpins, or organised crime tends to do"
I'm just curious in seeing whether there's ever been such a thing as a "gentleman thief" who actually made large scale industry out of those skills.
How could people be autistic enough to literally fight for almost 100 years?
>>2714795
It wasn't one war you dumbfuck. It was a series of wars broken up by a series of peaces and truces. It's like asking why are France and Germany so autistic to be fighting from 1870-1945?
>>2714795
You don't seem to understand how stubborn the brits and us are.
How can we reach out to Sokalist STEM scientists and show them that humanities are worth caring about? It's blatant anti-intellectualism to decry humanities, social sciences and economics as hogwash even if the same people who claim this aren't against STEM subjects.

Out of the thousands of different religions and religious sects throughout history that have come and gone, why is yours the "True" one?
I created it myself, and it entirely explains everything.

Because God gave it to us.
I believe in Jesus because of the impact he has had on my life, not because of what some third party has told me. If you pray to him, you'll see he's the truth,

Who brought peace to Europe, NATO or the EU?
>>2714268
Pax Americana.
They brought us peace, they brought the world EVERYTHING, in the 20th century. Despite living in the old world I am an American in spirit, just like you previously had Romans everywhere. I love the acceleration we have been experiencing in technology and the arts (film, electric/electronic music, interactive art) especially, even political progress (CIA, NSA, US Army) is apparent if you ignore the humanitarian foreground: perhaps liberal egalitarians and prudish luddite reactionaries alike will eventually be rounded-up and silenced, and this gaping hole in ressentiment will instead be replaced with the desire for an American emperor, one who will realize the goal that /bleibt der Erde treu/.
Praise Rome, Praise America.

Is it just me or are leftists misrepresenting and flat out lying about Socrates' critique of Democracy? They claim that the reason he hated it was because he was worried about the population being 'too dumb' to make well educated votes, and would ultimately lead to a tyranny. They conveniently leave out the fact that he spoke of the over indulgent decadence that comes with freedom and democracy that people would become so overly concerned with with other people's liberty that they'd practically reduce themselves to animals in an effort towards total equality, and through this chaos would come a reactionary who exploits the now severely weakened population and take it over. Am I wrong here?
>>2714233
How is the second nareative a anti-leftist one?
Communism and socialism are economic systems, not political ones, and do not imply direct democracy through their premises (in fact we have not seen any direct communist democracy in the XX century).
>>2714258
Most contemporary leftists believe in those systems because of the apparent equality they entail. Which directly contradicts socrates' warning. He's essentially arguing that tyranny from democracy is inevitable, because as a population becomes more self aware of their liberties, the faster they degenerate until their society collapses.
>>2714233
I think you mean Plato's critique which he attributed to Socrates.
Why all cultures in history discriminated women? Every single country treated them as second class citizens before white betacucks forced the equality meme.
>>2714067
Discriminated or protected? A pedestal is not actually confining, especially when it was ractually dangerous to go outside. Additionally, women have historically ridiculous power inside the home. In ages when the household was an economic center, the lead woman can fire and hire people/slaves/servants/serfs at will, not the man. This power still carries over today in eastern societies though eroded by the realities of industrialization
There were certainly societies that had different gender mores than other ones. The Byzantines were much less patriarchal than the Romans had been-- the basilea was exalted to a much higher importance than the wife of a Caesar ever was, and even in some respects played important roles. See Theodora I having a mural of her and Justinian side by side in Ravenna instead of being subordinate to him in the art, and Belisarius' whore wife bossing him around.
