The commune was not altogether leftist, its popular base was made up of plenty of simple nationalists who figured that something perfidious had gone down to have them lose to the prussians (I mean really it's hard to wrap ones head around just how incompetent Napoleon III's performance was) and policywise a lot of it was just stuff that was popular with working class parisians, rather than springing from avowed socialism. In terms of iconography, most of it shares heritage with the french tradition of revolution.

Because the French army was not an offensive instrument, and Hitler, unlike his generals, realized this. The French actually did launch a short spoiler attack. It featured such hilarity as entire divisions being stopped by single machine gun bunkers and was quickly called off.

Extremely just 5 years early they had taken all of North Eastern China by force and 25 ish years earlier they took all of Korea Korea. Not to mention before that they had taken Taiwan.

Japan was methodically dismantling and dominating China.

Not really even with the issue regarding oil Japan was still in a good position to achieve its aims of shattering China and replacing the West as the dominant Imperialist power there.
