About to hit the trigger on a MacBook Pro 15.4", the least-expensive version via a reseller. Seems to be good bang for buck, ASUS/Dell aren't much cheaper at this performance/quality point (if at all - 15" ZenBook or XPS 15 all trade in quality for a lower price).
Am I about to make a mistake?
>>55430333
>>55430493
Well yeah, thanks but I'm not going to benchmark this thing 24/7 nor am I going to compile Gentoo on it.
>>55430333
>XPS 15 trade in quality for a lower price
HAHHAHAHA he fell for the macbook meme and actually going to buy the cheapest version like a poorfag.

Most decent motherboards are rated for up to 300w from the PCIe lane (Not slot but the motherboard does not care about individual slots it uses the power pull across all slots. It's why you can put more than 1 GPU on there). So it's bullshit really. The only boards that might die are those that can't handle more pull to begin with.

why was the stupid questions thread renamed to small questions thread
>>55430244
It's been going back and forth between stupid and small since these threads first became a thing. Which it is just depends on what OP decides it is

So just got my first non toaster computer after using the old one for about five years. Weird question but do any of you guys get sentimental about a computer you've been using for a long time?
>>55430091
If it's a piece of shit no.
>>55430091
Depends on how well it served me. If I had to use a shitty computer for years then no. If it had been a trusty and reliable piece of hardware then maybe.
No. All my old hardware that I have no use for goes to the thrift store or city dump depending on whether they still work.
Speccy thread. Lenovo G50-45 laptop.

It was a small core CMT design made with servers and APUs in mind, something it did very well. It didn't do very well as a desktop gaymen processor, which lead to negative public perception.

I bought an alienware back in 2011 because I didnt really know shit about building computers and was too stupid/retarded to look it up. Ya'll think this build is decent?
http://pcpartpicker.com/list/QYpf8K
If you still have the alienware just upgrade the GPU
no point buying a worse computer to replace it.
>>55429874
seems like only the CPU I got was worse, but the ridicule I get makes me want to get a new pc. I've gotten about 1000$ after graduation and am getting a new build for uni

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.
