That would happen if you are writing over preexisting files that were deleted.
Anybody have experience with RFID chips? My fridge uses filters with a chip on them, and of course the GE brand (expensive) are the only ones with chip. If you use an off brand, there will still be an error on the front door...baka

I gave that some thought, but i think i would be in the same boat 6 months later. I'm assuming they "expire" every 6 months as this is the recommended life of the filter... was hoping there was a way to read/write the data on the chip so i could fake it...

Laptop harddrive died. If I run a Linux install in Persistance mode on USB, when I get a new HDD can I install it to the HDD and keep all of my files?

Well it depends. Usually when an HDD dies it's because it's got too many bad sectors to be read properly at some points. In this case then yes, most or some your files can still get backed up.
If it's something more serious like "I opened my Hard Drive and poked it with a stick to see how it worked" then no.

Is there anyway to find a windows 8 key from Bios? Can't boot into windows, but I can get into my bios. Can't run the USB boot fix installation shit because I had no way of knowing my CD key beforehand. system was a prebuilt at first.

Why did no one ever mention pic related? The only thing a lot of window cucks like me wanted was a Linux distribution that felt like windows. You tell us that we can customize KDE, LXDE, or MATE and get it to look a lot like Windows.
But it doesn't. It's so very superficial. Yet Q4OS combined with the XPQ4, it's not so superficial anymore. The attention to detail to replicate the look of Windows NT, Windows XP, and even Windows 7 is amazing.
If you're still using Windows because you can't find any Linux distro that's comfortable enough, give Q4OS a try.
Also, thread for talking about distros that do something different.

Disappointment. The first thing you will notice is Windows 10 still has the same control panel and other system utlities as Windows 7. It's more or less just them throwing another layer of UI over Windows 7 with more botnet just as Windows 8 was.
