/nsg/ - netsec general.
Last thread went pretty successful, lets keep the discussion going. The wiki page needs to be updated.

This thread is about security, exploits, computer networks, hacking and mitigations. Questions more related to programming than security will probably belong on /dpt/

So what about ereaders? I'm retarded and will actually be buying what I read, but I'd like to know what the thou/g/hts are on the kindle and possibly other brands. I figure the amazon e-bookstore is pretty much the best, so correct me if wrong. As far as the actual hardware, can you buy a kindle with special offers and remove without paying 15$? Unfortunately, googling only reveals amazon offers cuz marketing.
General ereader thread I guess

Not sure if it's still applicable with new models but if you never connected the Kindle to the internet you wouldn't get the ads. Leave it in airplane mode, pirate all of your books, and transfer via USB.
Which one and why?

Just in case you ever have to troubleshoot either.

Negotiate.
You have a lot of leverage if you are the most productive one there. Just make sure your efforts are known while doing it.
If that doesn't work, and you really want to work less for them, use the extra time to brand yourself really well online using your own projects or contributing to OSS. Then, using this impressive version of yourself, find a job that will be better than your current one.
After doing that, negotiate with an ultimatum: Ask for something that is better than the other place you found, or threaten to leave.
No matter how they answer, you win.

Hashcat 3.00 released!
>>55431069
wow, i just downloaded this a few hours ago because I didn't feel like booting into kali.
I've been downloading all the hacked password databases I can find and I'm in the process of cracking some of the hashes.
If only there was a WPA2 Reaver
Is there a password cracker around that has a good set of default rules for matching real world passwords?
e.g. stuff like common letter replacements (o->0), capitalization (first letter of a word upper case or not), punctuation (a symbol at the end is common), combinations of 2 words, adding numbers to the end (e.g. 1 or 2), etc.
I know pretty much every password cracker out there has a powerful filter system that can let you codify all of these rules, but I'm lazy and not really in the business of cracking passwords regularly.
A good set of presets for real-world passwords, trained from real-world leaks would be pretty awesome.

Anyone expecting to overclock a RX 480 much past 1400Mhz without heavy modification is dreaming. Watch this for the reason why. Also they BTFO the PCIe powerdraw bullshit being thrown around by Nvidiots.

>Anyone expecting to overclock a RX 480 much past 1400Mhz without heavy modification is dreaming
You mean like the custom boards that get released for every GPU?
>>55430790
We'll see. But I still doubt much past 1400Mhz. There is one card advertising 1400Mhz but whether it will have anymore headroom than that will have to wait to be seen. The AIB's I would class as 'heavy modification' anyhow. Perhaps they will add their own i2c to overcome the power limit.
This is the Firestrike score they got @ 1500Mhz.
Considering my OC'd R9 290 gets 11289 it's kinda underwhelming.
Glad I ordered the 1070 now. Sure I am paying out the wazoo for it but at least I know it will handle everything I throw at it @ 1080 with minimum of 60 FPS.
Hey /g/, I'm at a crossroads for how I should go about this project and I need some advice.
I'm involved with a student organization called Future Business Leaders of America, which is basically /pol/'s ripoff of Science Olympiad, and we are thinking about setting up a website for students to look up information and post pictures of State/National Events and things of that nature. A group of guys (roughly 2 or 3 programmers including me) will be maintaining the site, and we're trying to think what type of solution we should use.
1. Develop the site from scratch and have control of everything, but take a shit-ton of time bugtesting everything/setting up GIT for everyone to make contributions.
OR
2. Use a service like Weebly/Blogger, but it would be copy-paste templates and wouldn't look good on a resume, but it would be extremely fast to get setup and running.
What do you guys think?
