we need to talk about package managers on OSX, /g/

Homebrew:
PROS
plenty of support
plenty of packages
werks

CONS - can have problems upgrading after SIP changes
puts everything in /usr/local

pkgsrc:
PROS
fast

CONS
not as many packages as homebrew

Honourable mention:
Nix
PROS
clearly the best design
puts everything in /nix/

CONS
so few packages

The fuck do you need a package manager for?

This is how you get dependency hell.
>>
>>55787183
yeah managing dependencies sucks. thus package managers
>>
>>55787292
No...do not do fucking packages.

Install the ENTIRE FUCKING PROGRAM. Like a sane person. We have giant hard drives now...for a fucking reason

How do I decode this?

My university offers some classes online and to access any lecture you only need a valid log in and knowledge of the url.

They use this scheme:

http://www.XXXXXX.edu/mediaportal/flvplayer.aspx?FileID=eaa343c9-218a-41dc-86e6-a

The only thing that changes is that hexadecimal string.

I thought they might be uploading the lectures and sequentially naming them in base 16. Now I'm getting the feeling that they assign a random number in base 16 to each lecture as a means of preventing people from poking around and landing on a sequence of lectures by chance.

I was going to convert each section to decimal and see if I can identify a pattern, but decided to drop in here and see if I can get any useful input.

>ID
it's not encoded you dumbfuck, just randomized
>>
>>55786758

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universally_unique_identifier

They're UUIDs, truncated to 25 characters for some reason.
>>
>>55787127
RFC 4122 Version 4 UUIDs are generated using random or pseudorandom numbers. So I'm not going to find any patterns, then my only option is brute force by trying each ID in sequence. I'm guessing if I do it too fast my connection will get rejected for DDoS and possibly my account flagged?

RIP

Thanks though

So I'm thinking about putting together a new rig.
Currently have a HAF case and I'm over it.

What I'm going for?
-Small, but big enough to have decent airflow
-Will fit my 1070 FE
-Quiet
-Considering water cooling.

What do you guys have/recommend?
I'm thinking if you have half the space inside your case you should need half the amount of fans to pump the air, but with small cases I will have more resistance.

Why are audiophile products so ridiculous? Is it some kind of running joke that companies play, to prey on gullible old white men and steal their money?

Point me in the right direction I'm lost because literally almost all laptops are shit and use seriously old CPUs because all consumers look at is i3,i5 and i7. Sup /g

I had a weird one for you guys today..... so long story short , downloading some torrents from the usual place, inside vm, safe environment. Anyways after downloading torrent of my choice and without even completing download of said torrent, my browser chrome redirects to a systemtechinfo.com/jjl/LONGASSNUMBER LIKE 4000 charictors long url all numbers.

Pic related

So what is this, just a stupid redirect to crash a browser with so many numbers in url or a phishing expedition???? any help would be much appreciated as I have never come across this and am very interested in what the intent was with this, will post link below , do not click unless you want to crash ur browser

Pushbullet just went another step towards the jewish side, first it was responding to notifications now its limiting it's API usage to 500 a month.

Are there any good alternatives yet?
Using curl to send notifications across devices is too comfy, but not when they're limiting it so badly.
