If you would like to try out GNU/Linux you can do one of the following:
0) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice in a Virtual Machine using VirtualBox or other software made for this puporse for safety purposes.
1) Use the Live ISO (if your distribution of choice has one) to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything, that way, you can get to experience the GNU/Linux operating system without installing it.
2) Dual boot the GNU/Linux distribution of your choice along with Windows or macOS, this is recommended if you want to know more about the GNU/Linux operating system.
3) Go balls deep and replace everything with GNU/Linux.

Why on earth would I want to use i3-gaps? Aren't tiling WM supposed to optimize window space?
I TRIED SO HARD
And got very far indeed, a flexible, malleable product that adapts to every need.

How long until 4k channels?
It took almost a decade for HD channels to become a thing.
I doubt many people have a cable box with an HEVC decoder in it. Basically, if you have cable instead of IPTV, you're gonna have to wait a long time.
Hey /g/ - can we have a thread about decent, good value (performance per price), budget graphic cards?
What card must one buy in 2016 to be able to play a few vidya, something like Overwatch, Guild Wars 2 ?
Is GTX 970 the best pick especially considering Nvidia's proprietary linux drivers are better than Radeon's?
Bump out of slight interest
I'd definitely go with nvidia and sadly an old gpu will probably be a lot more stable but someone who knows more about modern nvidia linux drivers on linux would know better

The thing is: I'm trying to get into cybersecurity but I really hate programming. I've learnt C, Java and Python. I can write basic programs but can read more 'advanced' and complex programs. What I enjoy is networking and operational systems and wanted to know if these areas (cybersecurity, networking) require too much programming. Basic? Advanced? All I know is that there are some network algorithms to handle certain things...
thanks in advance

That's like trying to be a lifeguard but you can't swim.
OK, /g/, I'm building my own computer for the first time, and my case comes with two spots to mount 2.5" drives. My question is, if I plug the SATA cable from the PSU into it and turn it on, am I going to fry the drive?
Pic very related.
>SATA cable
>from the PSU
>>55783634
This fucking cable. I didn't know how else to word it.
>>55783608
No, 3,5" and 2,5" are compatible.
Hi /g/, I'm completely ignorant about electricity, don't even know if this is the right board but here it goes...
why does a normal lightbulb connected to a outlet pops as soon it's connected? pic related
Safety feature to prevent you from poking metal objects into the socket.
It doesn't, asking as you connect it properly.
>>55783637
but why when i connect a normal plug that goes to a lightbulb it doesn't explode? I mean, if i plug a normal lamp and turn it on it doesn't pop
hey /g/.
Using an old i5-2310 I had scavenged from a prebuilt. Just upgraded to 16gb of ram and looking into getting a 1060. I'm only in 1920x1080 for gaming as well as editing.
How bad is my CPU going to bottleneck? Anyone know a good LGA 1155 processor that is still half decent for today?
>>55783540
cus the i5 2310 is locked it will bottleneck that gtx 1060. get a i5 2500k or i7 2600k for cheap and overclock as much as possible. u also need a z77 to be able to overclock.
>Anyone know a good LGA 1155 processor that is still half decent for today?
Apparently you've never heard of the i5 2500k
>>55783624
I haven't ever really had to look into processors before, and didn't have the money for one
The Zen server processors will have over 32 Amada cores with Haswell level IPC
Why aren't you on board, /g/?
amada
Looks like the shitty marketing works on you pahjeet
I want 2x32 Amadas on a desktop machine, though
[cue crying emoticon haha fggts]

How's your tech career going, /g/?
>>55783296
welp, obviously not as good as yours..
Stuck in this IT firm doing unit testing, it's boring.
Happy for you OP. I'm jobless and living at home with my parents.
>>55783296
I'm gonna quit it. It's fucking hell.
Gonna study physics and live off research for the rest of my life.
Does anyone know any good forums to discuss Wordpress? I tend not to get responses when I ask questions in the official Wordpress forum and all of my google searches either direct me there or to forum plugins.
http://www.wpbeginner.com/ isn't bad. Just don't post WP here anymore, you're letting the flood gates open for the curry memes etc.
>>55783366
Thanks I'll try that, I don't know what that means because I've not really lurked here but sounds nasty.
