What are the risks of running a private tracker site?
all of them
all of the same risks of running a public tracker. i don't understand why people think private trackers are immune to risks on any level.
if you think the RIAA can't just get into a private tracker, reflect on what kind of special hurdles you had to go through to get into private trackers. did you have to sign an affidavit affirming that you're not working for any copyright enforcers? did you have to provide an ID or something? did you have to do anything other than prove that you know about audio encoding by taking some test?
do you think someone working for the RIAA couldn't study up to pass a test about audio encoding best practices?

Is gsync a meme?
>>57862287
I hope not because it sounds amazing.
I nowadays actually reduce all my video games settings to get a smooth 60FPS with vertical sync so that I can read moving text easier and without eye strain. Back in the days I always accepted 40 - unlimited frames, but one day I noticed I couldn't read the moving names of other players.
I hope Gsync/FREEsync does a good job at helping to prevent tearing.
It's pretty nice, just overpriced. It's about a $200 price tag over non gsync monitors, should've been closer to $100. I wish there was a version of adaptive sync that worked with both nvidia and amd, both atm make you feel locked into a certain market.
For the casual gamer yes. Most people that buy gsync monitors don't know how to use them.

So the first computer I ever built died today after eleven years of faithful service. Not that I used it much, but it had sentimental value, you know? Plus there were old games and such that only ran on XP. Compatability mode is a meme.
In honor of its life, let's talk about some of our old tech. What are you still holding on to, /g/? Tell us about it.
Pic unrelated.

but seriously, i prefer vim as well.
good thread
i'm a vimfag and even i can't get behind this. use whatever you fucking want. just don't be one of those bitchy obnoxious faggots who forces everyone to stop and accommodate your choice. if you can't just quietly use your preferred choice (tabs vs spaces, 2 vs 4 vs 9 spaces, etc...) then you give up the right to a choice. otherwise, i don't care at all.
In need of a dank PDF reader which can display scans, and mathematical formulas.
Changing the background color and font color would add to the dank points, but isn't necessary.
Preview on mac doesn't render the stuff properly (mathematical formulas, etc. it's a real problem) and Foxit reader is slow as balls.
should i just say fuck it and use acrobat reader?
don't wanna use chrome either because it's not as fast as i need it to be (my books are around 1000 pages), or comfy.
send help.
>>57861983
that's from foxit reader btw.
it's has nice features, but runs like a piece of shit. i remember when it was good (at least on windows it was good)

>In need of a dank PDF reader which can display scans, and mathematical formulas.
w... what? your PDF reader wouldn't have any effect on that. the PDF is going to render the same way in any viewer.
for os x, try Skim. it's pretty lightweight and well-liked by most people i've talked to who have gone past preview and/or adobe reader/acrobat.

foxit still dank for me

Im currently working on consuming myself in self-pity.

>>57861734
I think OP could have used a search engine partnership too.
Mozilla has a deal with Yahoo/Verizon to make it the default search engine in Firefox. That's where nearly all their money comes from. Before Yahoo they were Google's sugarbaby for a decade.

Hey /g/uys.
I've been having a somewhat randomly appearing issue with my PC recently. At completely random times, my computer will completely freeze - power to mouse and keyboard stop suddenly, the lights for num-lock and the laser on the bottom of my mouse going off. While frozen, nothing responds what-so-ever, even the power button does nothing unless held.
Once the computer is either forced to shut down, or does so on its own after about a minute, it refuses to turn back on for any reason. I have to unplug power from the PSU and let the computer sit for about 15-30 minutes before it will turn back on. Upon reboot, the fans and power LED turn on for about half a second, stop for about 5, then the PC powers on normally.
Other hints that may help; when crashing while watching youtube, the video - not any other object in the browser - crams down into 1/3 of the video screen, even when not fullscreen. It has done this while playing high-power games and while browsing /g/.
I feel like this is a PSU issue, hm?
Specs;
i7 Ivy Bridge stock @ 3.5
GTX 980 SC stock
32 GB GDDR3 corsair RAM
1 x 1.5 TB and 1 x 2 TB HDD
1 x 120 GB SSD
Asus Sabertooth Z77 motherboard
1000 Watt Seasonic Modular PSU (Platinum)
All cooled with a custom loop that I installed myself. Temps are always fine when it does this. And it happens about every 3-4 days.
polyfuse in powersupply perhaps. is your computer plugged into a surge protector?
>>57861508
This belongs in /sqt/ but I've had a similar issue. Reseat the RAM. It may be faulty, but chances are it's just a connection problem.
When your computer shuts off turn the power off at the supply but leave it plugged in. Hold the power button for 5 seconds to discharge. Turn on at the supply and power on. It should work again without needing to wait half an hour.
If the RAM reseating doesn't work try reseating the CPU.
>>57861614
It is plugged into a power strip with a fuse. The fuse is still good, but I have tried plugging it straight into the wall. Made no difference.
A local pc shop sold me a computer with an AMD FX-8370 in it and explicitly told me not to apply thermal paste.
However, since I've had the system, it's had constant BSODs and shutdowns, problems booting etc and I can't help but wonder if it's related.
Can /g/ confirm if I have to apply thermal paste on this specific processor. He said this cpu in particular doesn't require it.
Anything other than <100mhz 486's require thermal paste.
Bring it back to them, tell them to apply some fucking thermal paste before the heat strain kills the cpu

Dead serious.
I haven't done anything indepth with computers before. The most physical work I've done is replace a graphics card or a RAM chip every few years.
From what I've found, he ripped me off something fierce ($1200 for an msi 970 motherboard, AMD FX 8370 processor and card reader). Serves me right for being retarded and going to a local shop, but my old mobo died and I needed a new system on the day or faced missing a huge job opportunity.
