Face it we're all poor and building an i5 even with used parts isn't cost effective.

Is shopping old i5/i7 enterprise clunkers on eBay the best way to buy a basic shit office box?

In the end a computer is a computer, and the standardized hardware in these runs *nix well.

you can get a HP/DELL office pc with a 3rd or 4th gen i5/i7 and 8/16GB ram for like 150-300 €uropoors.

>isn't cost effective.

Please dont feed the consumerism.
>>
>>58453023
If you just need it for common tasks those second hand boxes are good value.

You can buy a $150 PC that will do anything except new games pretty well. Add another $100 for an SSD and you're set for the next 5-10 years (except maybe a video card upgrade).

MS doesn't give a shit about windows because no one pays for it.

That's why it's a shitty OS. Switch to Linux and uncuck your self.

Thinkpad z60m titanium edition

IRC: #/tpg/ on irc.rizon.net

Other business laptops are also welcome in /tpg/ (e.g. Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook).
----
If you're looking for purchase advice, READ THE BUYERS GUIDE FIRST. Then post, stating budget and requirements (e.g. size and performance).
Don't buy anything OTHER THAN T, X AND W/P SERIES if you want the Real ThinkPad Experience™

Recommended models:
T420 - 14", normal size
X220 - 12.5", ultraportable
----
Why ThinkPad? (also applies to other business laptops)
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap.
>Excellent keyboards - tactile feel and quiet.
>Great durability: chassis uses a magnesium rollcage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels.
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models.
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop.
>Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain.
>The best trackpoint (that red thing in the middle of the keyboard). Great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad.
>Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support.

"Linux is free if your time is worthless". Is that quote still true? I think it is.

I tried a Gnome Debian live USB the other day to see the state it has now.

The mouse acceleration was insanely high and it required the terminal.

For at least into the foreseeable 20 years, cs dropouts will always corrupt linux by making a shit-on-purpose distro. They don't have any form of job or responsibilities and have all the time to try to "convert" people and get them to use their dropout distro.

This is a game they play because they *want* people to download it, run into trouble, then flip shit and say linux is for losers. They think this makes them smart.

This is why you will keep seeing this meme that linux is hard to use and is only for losers, it's why you saw it after 2008 and why you will see it well into the future.

These kinds of fags will migrate to BSD eventually and you'll see the process cycle through again but nobody will care because linux is already free.

Everyone likes mouse acceleration, if you weren't such a special snowflake you wouldn't even notice, they don't put it in the gnome control settings because gnome is for retards and it would just confuse them.

Seems like you figured it out ok by yourself so why blog about it here?

The best thing that happened to linux lately was Android. It's sad that linux memesters don't respect it. It's exactly what Linux should be doing, using a powerful kernel as a core, but with great third party software on it.

The bane of Linux isn't the core, that's the least, it's the third party software support on the Desktop is shit.

remember when nvidia made chipsets for AMD CPUs

Yeah they were awful.

Remember when chipsets weren't a meaningless ploy to lock away the only features that matter in a thinly veiled attempt to create artificial segments within an ever shrinking market that becomes increasingly irrelevant thanks to twin duopolies in which the illusion of competition only exists to keep the sole competitor afloat just enough to maintain a stranglehold on inflated prices?

Yeah, me neither.

Does anybody have a solution to the issue of shortcuts no longer working when their target directory is renamed/moved.

I am wondering if there is a way to link two folders together in such a way to avoid this problem.
Does anybody know of a way of doing this in regular file explorer or a useful addon that would help achieve this?

(also, I did read the rules and I don't know whether this counts as tech support as it's not an issue with my PC, rather something that could be added to enhance user experience that others may also be interested in. if the mods deem it as breaking the rules I'll happily move to /wsr/ and ask there instead)
