This board full of hackers, programmers and computer scientologists. Why do not you all come together and and make this year THE YEAR OF THE LINUX DESKTOP ?

It's like Microsoft doesn't actuals want any competent computer users to buy their product
What am I looking at?

What you can't see is the point. Why bother allowing one to use a sideways taskbar if it's going to hide your window buttons? No Linux desktop has this problem.

Wooow I don't know how to do thing! It sucks! Linux forever!
Where do you get your news? I like Hacker News
Twitter and HN for tech
WSJ, Bloomberg, and FT for muh investments

Faggot news more like, you pathetic little faggot
What do you all think of Amazon Echo? I'm really uncomfortable with the idea of an always-on microphone.

Preinstalls, official support, cloud services, Office - all of that remains.
CentOS did not kill Red Hat.
Explain why they should without using any buzzwords like "freedom" or "botnet".
Hey /g/, anyone wanna make a fully p2p Twitter-like micro-blogging network?

I dont understand why GPU manufacturers dont have an option to buy cards without coolers. For someone looking to overclock or change the stock cooler, the total cost of the cooler on the gpu could be used towards the cooler you wanted. This would also help bring a bigger market towards 3rd party GPU coolers.
Thoughts?
>>58461065
Because one universal cooler won't fit all without having to use multiple slots. Also vrm temperature would be shit.
Nobody is making a card for the 0.001% of people who would actually want that. It's a dumb idea.
>>58461065
Because some retard is gonna run it without a cooler.
Manufacturers also would like their product to work as intended with their cooler.
Same reason CPUs always come with a cooler.
Same reasons cars come with tires
Same reason your Capri Sun comes with a straw

whats the best way to learn python, family? i have some basic knowledge of C.
MIT's Introduction to Computer Science, which used to use scheme and SICP, now teaches python.
The course just started online this week at edx.
https://www.edx.org/course/introduction-computer-science-mitx-6-00-1x-9
Pray to Guido every night before bed, repeat the Zen of Python in public until you pass out, print your C code, burn it, delete the files, then on the night of a blue moon, stand outside in a field, and go learn rust or haskell instead

Give me at least one reason for which you are still using lagfox or chrome botnet over Vivaldi.
I use Seamonkey on my work computer for the built-in email client.
But you're right, there's no real reason to use Firefox or Chrome over Vivaldi.
Chrome for bookmark / tab syncing across devices.

Is USB type c a dead meme tech?
redpill me on why we even need USB C
what does it do better than USB 3.0? is it a cashgrab to make us upgrade all our shit?
>>58460522
>is it a cashgrab to make us upgrade all our shit?
Pretty much, the average person doesn't really benefit from more than the ~400 MB/s USB 3.0 already provides even with SSDs and UHS-II micro mSD/SD cards
>>58460522
It's a lot smaller, making it usable in phones, tablets, laptops and whatever fucking shit you want to use. USB type A is only viable for huge and stationary things.
Also USB C can pretty much replace every other port, while again, barely using any space. Once you calm your balls over Apple starting the trend and once there will be more third party shit, you're going to love it.
Would /g/ recommend rebuilding in Kaby Lake if I'm on Haswell?
I have a 4690k and was thinking about upgrading my rig to a 7700k, but I would obviously have to buy a new Mobo and RAM. Wondering if the performance upgrade is worth it. Most benchmarks online don't really show me much because I'm more interested in gaming improvements.
lmfao, no
You're "upgrade" won't be that significant. If better multi-core performance is what you want then buy a used multi-xeon server blade.
Nope. Check again next year maybe cannon lake will bring some gains or at least more cores.
>>58460474
You'd be better off getting a 4790K if your CPU isn't good enough in multithreaded workloads, it will get you very close to Kaby Lel. It's definitely not worth paying for a new mobo and RAM and you can probably get the 4790k cheaper than a 7700k too.
