Wasn't there a way to manually extract .mp3 audio from a youtube video by messing with the site's codec? I hate youtube downloader sites so I would like a refresher on this method.

youtube-dl

youtube-dl can be set to only download audio.
>>
>>58445065
Just use the command line utility youtube-dl, and specify -x if I remember correctly to extract audio. You can also specify the format if needed. It also works on pretty much any site, like soundcloud, vine, twitter, facebook, etc.

RIP PC

http://www.businesstimes.com.sg/technology/personal-computer-sales-fall-for-fifth-year-in-a-row

So, what will you move to now that PC is dead? Will you start using tablets? Phones maybe?

>"Stagnation in the (personal computer) market continued into the fourth quarter of 2016 as holiday sales were generally weak due to the fundamental change in PC buying behaviour," Gartner principal analyst Mikako Kitagawa said in a release.

OUCH

>Another factor was that people are putting off replacing desk or laptop computers because they use them infrequently, opting instead to go online with smartphones, according to Ms Kitagawa.

OUCH

PC will never die so long as businesses and governments continue using them.
>>
>>58445060
Sure it will die. Innovation will just slow down because the market is shrinking.

Even Intel is slowly dying. They completely abandoned tick-tock and completely slowed down improvements to their consumer chips and are concentrating on enterprise and CPUs for server farms.

That's why Skylake and Kaby Lake have nearly identical performance.

This slowdown will impact nearly all aspects of PC ecosystem as people just start using cheap tablets and phones more and more.

WHY THE FUCK ARE WE KILLING ANALOG SIGNALS?

FIRST IT WAS NTSC (Television Antenna, you imbred asshole)

NOW IT IS FM in NORWAY

https://www.engadget.com/2017/01/11/norway-is-killing-fm-radio-and-folks-arent-happy/

CAN'T WE LEAVE THE VHF BAND ANALOG, AND THE UHF BAND DIGITAL?

VHF channels 2-13 CAN REMAIN ANALOG, while channels 14 and beyond can BECOME DIGITAL

same with "digital radio", instead of cucking the 87.5 Mhz to 108.0 Mhz band, can't we just use the frequencys of UHF TV channels 79-83 (860 Mhz to 890 Mhz)

DTV receivers are being sold for a long time, but digital radio is literally who.
You can't have non-retarded digital-to-analog converters with most radioreceivers.

Was looking at this. I love power banks, and am wondering what the highest capacity single power bank is, does anyone know what that is or if there are some larger then 50000mAh?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Don't power banks start degrading horrible if not used correctly?
I never tinkered with them so what do I know.
>>
Top of the line cells are 3200 or 3400mah, China cells are usually half that if that. They're usually paralleled then ran through a boost converter to 5v. You can eyeball how many cells would fit and do the math.

>>58444942
They're pretty hard to mess up when in a power bank. It's a easy life compared to being dead shorted to fill some kids lungs with burnt sugar. Just don't drain the pack till the protection kicks and not charge it for a year.

Recently started relearning Python for uni and was wondering what the main advantages of the language are? Is it just the sheer amount of libraries and modules available? I've come from using C,Java,Haskell and a little bit of MATLAB.
56 posts and 7 images submitted.
>>
>>58444895
The main advantages of the language are simplicity and readability. Anyone can learn to use Python, from a child to a grandmother.

Python code is easy to read by humans so it's great for collaboration, and the simplified syntax allows to you do more with less code.

The sacrifice it makes is performance. It's a very high level language (it's interpreted) and compared to something like C it's blown of the water.
>>
>>58444895
>>58444930

Also yeah, there's a shit load of modules available. The python community is *very* active worldwide and there's a module/bindings/API wrapper/whatever for just about anything you could want to do.
>>
>>58444930
>>58444970
Yeah looking at the code now I can see why it's so widely used; it barely even feels like syntax.

Any idea why it's used so much for mathematical/scientific computing if it sacrifices performance? Or is it just to spare everyone having to learn pointers

So /g/, I got my hands on a softmod XBOX a while back. Went poking around on it more recently, turns out I have some form of Gentoo on there, called Gentoox.

I have no fucking clue about Linux, or Gentoo in general, but I figure it might be a good time to learn. Anyone know if this is worth bothering over? And if so, any advice for a newcomer?

Lubuntu (LXLE?) or Absolute Linux

Lubuntu looks ugly imo...anything better but still retain the performance?

Antergos will give you an easy to install Arch. Honestly, The desktop environment is what you're worried about for resources. Look up light DEs like lxde or xfce or some shit and get any flavor of Linux with a light DE.

Hello
im thinking of bying a laptop with ssd as a hard drive with 128 GB.
My question is
>What happens when ssd get full ?
I buy another ssd card ?
another laptop?
12 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
You buy a cloud and store it there
>>
>>58444415
No I dont want to pay monthly for memory storage.
can i change the ssd with another in laptop ? or the best strategy is to have an external HDD for storing big files ?
>>
>>58444407
>>58444525
You told us nothing about the use-case, so all we can give is shit advice. Also, there's a stupid questions thread dedicated to questions like yours >>>/g/sqt
Anyway, most laptops don't come with two 2.5" slots, sou you can't just whack in an extra HDD like you would in a desktop. If your laptop has an optical drive, you can often remove it and install a hdd holder in its place (or have a professional do it for you), but you should definitely check if that's possible with your model. This way you can have an SSD for speed and an HDD for storing large files.
