It's overpriced, inflexible, and you don't get to choose your own ingredients.

Three strikes, you're out.
>>
>>9332913
The produce is good but far too expensive.
>>
>>9332913

I'm sure you can make some fine food with that, but it's wasteful. Too expensive, too much packaging, shipping, etc.

It's really just for lazy people. If you have internet, you have access to literally millions of recipes, pick one, as simple or complicated as you'd like. Then, go to the store and buy the ingredients. WALA. I don't believe that you're "too busy."

Just had a look at the website: a meal for two is $19.98. One of the recipes this week is lentils and eggs. Lentils and fucking eggs. A dozen eggs and a pound of lentils is like $4. Only the worst kind of person would pay $20 for 3/4 cup of lentils and 2 eggs.

Who here eats weeds? Many wild weeds are edible and rich in nutrients. Pic related is my favorite, but no idea what it is called in English. It is similar to spinach.

I pick lambsquarter, young dandelion greens, purslane and chickweed. I don't know what you've got in your pic, though.
>>
>>9332912
Pretty sure you're not meant to eat weeds.

Redpill me on food safety standards for fish. I believe fish is very healthy. Nothing I love more than some pic related, but I recently spoke to a friend who was fear mongering fish because the water is more polluted than it used to be, it's quickly getting worse, don't eat fish, etc.

Is it safe? Not sure I can live without sashimi.

Every study on the healthiness of fish shows that eating it lowers heart disease risks despite the metals and so on that it contains due to water pollution, which leads me to believe that the healthy stuff in fish are healthier than the unhealthy stuff are unhealthy.

Eat away, but try to focus on species that contain low amounts of mercury.
>>
https://nutritionfacts.org/topics/fish/

Modern-day fish is also a leading source of industrial pollutants such as mercury, dioxins, neurotoxins, arsenic, DDT, AGE’s, PCB’s, PDBE’s, alkylphenol endocrine disruptors and even prescription drugs that may end up in waterways.
>>
>>9332905
Increasing pollution is a problem in some areas, but it's pretty much irrelevant unless you're eating nothing but fish in your diet.

Many people are prone to overreacting. They confuse "don't eat this food for every single meal" with "don't eat this food ever". That's what your friend is doing. Overreacting.

Keep in mind that pollution is everywhere, not just the water. It's in the air, in the ground, etc. You aren't avoiding pollution by avoiding fish. You're just switching what kind of pollution you are consuming.

I got great value maple syrup... Ruined by breakfast
8 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
That's because it's not maple syrup, it's corn syrup.
>>
>>9332894
You seem to have smeared it on your camera lens instead of on your food. Better luck next time!
>>
Kroger has their own brand of actual maple syrup for like $6. Shop there.

Do you need to use caster sugar in cakes or is granulated fine?
20 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I think castor sugar dissolves more easily. Sugar is cheap so just buy what the recipe says.
>>
Granulated is just fine.
>>
>>9332813
Some recipies call for something ridiculous like golden caster sugar, which isn't even a thing where I live.

So, /ck/, I have decided that I would like to have cooking be my career, and start out with culinary school.
Is this a good idea? I have people to live with rather than dorms, to boot.
Yay or nay?

Cooking Positives

Always in demand
Can commit a felony and still get a job
Go anywhere
Cooking can get you laid

Negatives

Paid like shit
Work like a dog
Likely get addicted to Drugs
Probably commit a felony
Smell like onions and ass so you can't get laid
Everyone treats you like fuck

My advise is don't
>>
>start out with a degree
Or
Go to a local restaurant, get in as a dishwasher if they don't need prep cooks or linecucks, work your way up and get a feel for it. Being a chef isn't something a degree will teach you, there's so much more to it.
A short list of what you'll be doing as a head chef, assuming you don't want to be a $12 an hour linecuck forever.
>Making a menu
>Dealing with underlings who don't show up
>Ruling with an iron fist
>Being an asshole
>Working 80 hour weeks
>Never getting days off
>Rarely taking vacations
>Getting cucked by management
>Getting cucked by servers
>Getting cucked by linecucks
>Doing dishes when your dishwasher bails
>Contemplating suicide
>Being a psychopath
>Hopefully making delicious food

If this is your number one passion you'll PROBABLY be okay. I don't recommend a degree until you realize you're in a cutthroat industry where it's always me>the team in most people's eyes. Try to apprentice under a GOOD, classically trained, bonafide chef before blowing 30k on a meme degree.

Cooking is at the ass end of my backup plans. If everything goes to shit, I'll end up a chef again.

Damn, is it really that bad?
I heard catering would be a damn good time if I go that route.
But you guys are making being a chef sound horrid...

So hypothetically, if I were to find a frozen mammoth, would I die if I ate its meat?
In a follow up question, would this be legal?
15 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>9332514
If something is frozen,it more the less dead, but stab a knife in it's head just to be safe.
And yes,it would be illegal.
>>
Unless it's an area that is specifically legal to take fossils, it's illegal to take them on public lands and wildlife parks in the USA.

And it would taste like shit. People have tried mammoth meat and they said it was awful because just because it's been frozen for thousands of years doesn't make it preserved enough to eat.

So I normally just cook it in a pot with water, onion, cloves, bay leaves, brown sugar and some vinegar. I was going to try beer braised in the oven but my oven just fucking broke. Will probably just try it in a pot with beer instead. So give me recipes you guys use some I can try mixing it up
