How did the Americans manage to build so many in a short period of time?
How much did they lose?

Especially since at this time oil was low during building up the wells.
They became the number 1 producer in a short period.

Plus, the oil companies made a fortune collectively as did many employees, landowners, stockholders and municipality's.

Exxon Mobil for example has made $400 billion profit in the las ten years. For the industry its in the trillions. This is a blip just like the 80s price crash

Seems like you'd need a lot invested(ie being a huge website such as them) in order to get that much money.

Might try something smaller tho

I have a compulsive spending habit - specifically, I buy games on steam that I never play or never finish. I spent hundreds of dollars last month. I'm working on trying to stay within a budget but the urge to spend is stronger than my willpower.

I've thought about trying to "hire" someone to be my friend on steam. They monitor my steam collection by checking out my profile and charge me a percentage of everything I buy. In addition, I'd owe him a free game regularly for his service. So if I buy a $60 game and I owe say, 15% of everything I purchase on steam, he bills me $9 as a fee for spending money on games. In addition, he get's a free game every week or month.

It would mean basically giving money away as punishment for not sticking to my goals which would, in theory, be a deterrent to spending money on games frivolously.

Would this be something that someone would likely go for if I advertised it on CL or something?

Attack the cause, not the effect

The cause of your problem is that you're a fucking loser who sits at home all day on Steam and you have nothing to do so you buy games

Jist fucking leave the house more. Pick up golf I don't know, go to the store and just eat ice cream all day do something
>>
You just identified the problem. Why exactly CANT you just stop doing this?
You're clearly aware of it.
>>
>>1091746
I'm picky about games so I'll pick one up and if I don't like it, I just move on to the next. I also have a relatively short attention span but always want to be playing one. I don't know if compulsive is the right word but I feel like if someone else saw whenever I bought a new game and they billed me for it it might be embarrassing enough to stop.

Internships included. How'd it go?

I have a summer software dev internship coming up and i'm nervous af. To make things worse, it's at a real well-to-do tech area. Imagining my first day:
>rainy day
>walk in and trip over untied showlace
>fall in wet carpet spots
>everyone stares
>i go to the receptionist and ask for directions and start spilling spaghetti all over the place
>ill-disguised mocking grins and looks from employees in lobby
>fast forward
>working on assignment with other interns
>everyone ostracizes me because i'm slow at learning this stuff when I thought I wouldn't be and because of my social skills
>go home
>shoot myself

Should I go see a therapist and get this sorted out before I start? Really scaring me m8s.

Start working towards putting yourself in more social situations now. I doubt it would be anything like that, the other interns will be similar to your classmates.

People that don't know you won't put forth the effort to understand you if you're a bit unusual. Basically just do what you're told, smile where appropriate, and try to get on people's good side. If you don't talk much, then you have less spaghetti on your hands. I'm a pretty talkative person but I think my coworkers at my old co-op probably aren't really aware of that, because it's safer to keep that for when I'm alone with my friends.

Also, have a sense of humor about mistakes. Being self-deprecating too often can make people uncomfortable, but if somebody jokes about something harmless that you messed up, just laugh and say something like "yeah not one of my finest moments" or whatever. Everybody can connect on minor embarrassments and it'll make you seem more human with minimal effort.

try r9k

Hello /biz/ recently I've been getting interested in this sort of field and I've been thinking of majoring in finance. However I would like to know about the math of it all. I'm pretty decent in it although it's a very boring subject to me which discourages me. I've seen most financial majors only need to take up to a calculus 1 class or a calculus for business. I've already took statistics (got a B).

Anyways most people say all you need is basic math really once your out so I guess I just wanna ask is this true? Is calculus really important? I've been wanting to become maybe a stock trader or something similar

Sorry if this is a stupid question, I looked online but couldn't find a direct answer

I majored in accounting and we did the introductory finance course which covered thinks like time value of money, bonds, annuities/ perpetuities.

It was pretty easy, most of the math was high school level or the data analysis (fancy name for entry level uni statistics) which you said you got a B in.

Not sure what later courses would be like.

As for accounting, a large portion of my course was tax/financial reporting issues, which was fairly irrelevant to stock traders outside pre or post tax dividends and capital gains tax. (I'm in Australia).

My suggestion is to contact your business faculty and talk with someone, even ask to sit in on a higher level finance course and see if it looks like something you might be interested in.

On the deepweb there are people selling 100 dollar counterfeited bills for 5 dollar each.

>buy 1 fake bill
>buy 20 more fake bills with previous bought fake bill
>buy 2000 more fake bills with previous bought fake bills
>buy 200000 more fake bills with previous bought fake bills
>Sell fake bills for real dollars

Back in my day people worked for a dollar. Nowadays you've got your "youtubers" making "content". You know what content is sonny? Content is making something original: writing a book, making a movie, etcetera. But now you can make money from commenting on a movie or reading from a book. Jesus Christ. What's next? We gonna pay people for blinking? Subscribe to my patreon if you want to watch me breath. Jesus Christ. People make money from drawing stick figures and playing video games. Jesus Christ. Every 'Youtube Comedian' tries to be like Eric Andre, PapaFrank, H3h3, etcetera. Jesus Christ. And people talk about fair use? Fair use of my foot in your ass. You didn't make the movie, don't upload clips of it. You didn't write the fucking song, don't cover it. Write your own. Yet it's "stealing" when people take "content" I.E. your videos and you get butthurt over it. Jesus Christ. Leave your living room Doug Walker. Make a short, independent movie if you know so much Christ Stuckman.

P.S. Jesus Christ.

You just wait young man. In 20 years people will drop out of medical school because they'll decide that it's too hard. Because why should anyone have to work hard? We'll have no teachers, no scientists, just a bunch of Youtubers. Oh, your dying from something treatable? Well, there is nothing to be done. Watch this video.
