When meta threads start popping up, time to sell
Hi guys. Can you tell me how to sell something in internet without any reputation, because noone trust me and they don"t want to pay first.
Buy trusted accounts. It's how 90% of eBay sellers get started unless you started 5-10 years ago.
I'm finishing a masters in finance and all I want is to stay at home and try to live off of gamedev. I've inherited about 100k recently so money wouldn't be a problem for quite a while but my gf is working her 5 days a week at her definitive job and I don't want to make her afraid that I'll never work or make money.
I feel like I cheated her by telling her (and myself) that I'd work a good job in finance but this field seems too soul-crushing for me. Meanwhile I'm at home learning about code, modeling, texturing, animating, design, music, lightning...It's so great and some people on here (strangers) told me I have potential but not going directly for interviews out of college seems like a professional death trap. If I would try working on gamedev at home for a year or two, would it be possible to go back to corporations and interview as if nothing had happened? Or will they disqualify me on the basis that "I didn't really want this job at first"?
Help
>>1090409
I'm in a similar position as you are but I'm going to try my hand at entrepreneurship with some friends. All I can say is, follow your heart. I already have a really nice job lined up after I graduate but I'm going to back out of it.
If this is something you really want you should go for it. If it doesn't work out and you have to interview again don't tell them you thought finance was "soul crushing". Just tell them you wanted to pursue another interest first to see where it would lead and now that you have you are ready for the next step in your life. That's what I am going to do anyway.
The worst thing I have ever encountered in my life is regret.
>>1090409
If you are good, and can show this through examples of games you've made, then you will be hired.
>>1090409
One thing is always important in life: It's never ever too late.
There is always a possibility to make things great for yourself.
In your case: being an indie gamedev (especially a good one) for some time is not in the least going to hinder you to enter a finance corp later. They look for flexible, intelligent people and as long as you can show what your powers are and have decent arguments about why you did this or that, you're absolutely fine.
And in my eyes, although i cannot speak from experience here, they'd rather hire someone who has already done something in life, than a freshly graduated newbie.
Im planning on moving to canada from my shithole 3rd world country. I have spent a lot of time and money getting all my credentials verified and applying for visas etc (im not a refugee).
What is happening over there? I heard they recently elected a different type of government and are now worse off because of it. Or is it just due to the oil industry being down that affects them?
Western Provinces are slowing down due to Crude Oil crash, but Unemployment is still surprisingly low. Crude oil crash is also why the CDN dollar is so low. Rest of the country is doing about the same as it was before.
New Government is probably a good thing if you are an immigrant (previous administration was more xenophobic... although no where near as bad as the right wing in the US).

canada has a lot of issues right now but its an okay place to live. just don't expect to ever buy a house.

Why not?
/biz/ I am probably half retarded and I don't know much about math.
Is the economy tanking or is it just hysteria?
Should I go in the woods yet?
>>1090335
jobs are flying away from western countries, immigrants are flying in, and their economies are slowing down accordingly
its not the economy tanking its the new world order taking place
I think that we're on the front end of another recession.

Don't need to enter the woods to find a bear, anon.
Looking to do a b2b email campaign and am trying to think of good ways to get mass local emails.
Does anyone have experience with an online yellow pages scraper (specifically for the Australian version)? What software works well, etc..?
Or any other ways to get lots of local business emails in one big list?
I scraped the inside of your moms pussy with my dick
Just buy a list man, it will cost like $500
I have used an Australian company called Impact Lists, can recommend them
>>1090267
Most scrapers are <$100, seems like a no brainier to me?
is teaching the ultimate cuck job?
-expect being burdened with kids because shortage of teachers
-you will evaluate tests during hours you are not paid to work
-most of that time is wasted, because new information acquired by students is easily forgotten
-expect babysitting kids with behavioral problems who drive you mad whose parents have mcjobs
-spend your own money to buy supplies
-sit on your ass for 4 months with no pay, because pay stops when schools out
It can be nice for people who like it desu.
But you might as well become a NEET if you're going to be teaching in a majority black school. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.
It depends on the level of education, and your goals.
For instance, I could see teaching in grad school to be good and useful, as the students are likely serious and your teaching is going to actually help people perform something beneficial to society.
Undergrad teaching might be more problematic though. Especially at the community college level, where unfortunately a large number of students are just there because high school ended and they haven't figured out what else to do with their lives.
High school and younger is probably the most painful to teach, and potentially the most useless. As far as society is concerned, yeah you're basically a glorified babysitter. Your function is just to keep the kids and teens occupied and out of the way so grown-up society can function. Most of what you're teaching them is irrelevant and won't be useful in their lives.
But it could be a respectable job if you take it as an opportunity to craft the mindset and perspective of your students. For instance, letting them know that the specific factoids they're learning aren't really the point, but rather that they should learn *how to learn*, and how to put their minds towards a single, possibly tedious goal and see it through to the end with integrity and precision.
Any ideas on how to make ~$200 a week online with little or no capital?
I heard dropshipping and flipping social media accounts can work wonders
Anybody on /biz/ have any experience with either of these?

Is this like a Ponzi scheme? It seems like these guys need us more than we need them.
I'm a 19 year old college student in texas currently, and I've come up with a really good invention that I'm 100% sure doesn't exist. I don't have a patent or it yet. What can I do to make money from it? how and who do i pitch it to? if I want to start an LLC that produces and sells my invention, what is step one? I'm really desperate for help
>>1089807
File a patent
>>1089813
That's a negative, ghost rider. Possibly.
First OP, tell us what it does. No, don't tell us (or anyone else at this point) how it does that or what process it uses, but we need to know what it does.
Have you already researched similar patents? Only *after* doing that can you say that you're "90% sure it doesn't exist" because it's always possible that your thing is already patented, just using different words in the title and description.
>What can I do to make money from it?
Like I said, we need to know what it does to give you advice here. Is it an industrial machine? Is it a commercial process? Or is it just a consumer device?
>how and who do i pitch it to?
Gotta know what the hell we're dealing with. Developing an industrial machine is worlds apart from creating a consumer gizmo.
>if I want to start an LLC that produces and sells my invention, what is step one?
You google "how to start an LLC". It varies by state.
Side note, if you want to be successful, you really need to work on your typing, grammar, and sentence structure. Nobody's going to take you seriously if you speak with as much eloquence as an 8th grader.
>>1090083
>That's a negative, ghost rider. Possibly.
The reason "just getting a patent" is a negative is because patents are fucking expensive for anyone who isn't already raking in hundreds of thousands of dollars. Getting a patent done properly, that is, with a lawyer and (probably) an engineer to ensure that the drawings, specifications, and explanations all work is going to run somewhere between $15,000 to $35,000+.
Patents are typically only recommended if they can be reasonably expected to return the owner 10x the cost of filing.
It's hard to enforce patents, again, if you aren't already making hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Some things (WD40 is an example) are better held as trade secrets because patents expire after 20 years, plus the patent by definition reveals how your device works. If it's worded broadly enough, you'll be protected, but in all likelihood a patent will only open up your idea to being copied and slightly modified by an existing company.
