What's the best way to save money (beyond money that has to remain utterly liquid and accessible) now?

Because, obviously, savings accounts and retirement accounts may be safe but they're guaranteed loss of money.

Strictly talking about savings, I would suggest two things:

1- Government bonds, or treasury bills, or whatever is called in your country, are (relative risk free) instruments, with interest equal to inflation, depending on which country you're living on. It won't made you rich, but your money will be safe and retain next to all its initial value, unless you try to sell it before the agreement date.

2- Silver and gold are solid ways to retain your value, if you know when to buy and sell.

>/biz/: hahaha, newfag. Silver is worth a shit, it won't generate profit until several years later, which inflation will eat anyway; you're better buying food and guns to defend your useless metal coins, stay poor wageslave, etc.

The average value for silver for the last year have been $14.95 per ounce, ranging from $14.18 to $15.73. In December it was as low as $13.70 (>/biz/: silverfags on suicide watch!), but right now is at $15.79, so for whoever acquired silver in december, could sell it right now for a nifty 15% profit. Gold have been on a similar path. I haven't been following platinum, but I imagine is on a similar streak.

However, petrol isn't a very good idea, so stay far away from it.

How do I invest in water

Buy land with stable access to wells that can't be drained by nearby water sucking operations. It's literally what a bunch of rich guys are getting ready to do.

What the hell? The Bible clearly says that marriage is the union of two people and that sex begins unification. Also marriage is meant to help people who struggle with lust. Sex was meant to be done by Christians but only within marriage.

Frankly I dont know if I have the capital for that

I know there are a few publicly traded water companies, but almost all water is municipal or non publicly traded sources.

How can you get into the water market at this point without directly owning assets?

As the subject of the thread suggests, I'm considering studying computer science, accountancy, or actuarial science. I have some questions.

For CS, Accountancy, Actuarial Science
>How much does pedigree matter? That it to say, which one would be most accommodating for someone who doesn't/didn't go to Rose-Hulman or Wharton or Stanford?
>Which is the fastest track? Which one is the longest in terms of time sink?

For Computer Science
>A.S., B.S., post-bac certificate/degree,
alternative program e.g. Dev Bootcamp, Hack Reactor, Coding Dojo, etc. which one?

Actuarial Science
>Does degree really even matter? beanactuary.org explicity states it doesn't.

Accounting
>MBA, MS, BBA, certificate, etc. which one?
>Is CPA the gold-standard? Does it matter how I get there?

Thanks.

Here's a breakdown from my understanding.

~Computer Science
School does matter, but in the long term the best programmers will hold the best jobs, so although good schools have good students and better teaching methods, it's ultimately up to you.

~Actuarial Science
School may be important to get into better firms, but the most important thing is the diligence to go forward with the Actuarial exams. I think school is more important than CS for this, because it's the field where business and mathematics meet, so you need to have a strong school with strong connections.

~Accounting
Prestige is everything. It will make the difference between going to work as a bookkeeper and working Big 4 and moving to better things. I attend a University that has a top accounting program and generally students are easily able to find jobs. At other schools, it's a fucking disaster.

Ultimately, you want to end up going for a CPA as an accountant if you want to work as one.
There may be cases where a CFA/MBA is a better choice (if you work in finance/banking/management).

As for CS, you need to go for a MS/PhD if you want to contribute to the field, but generally people don't go to graduate school because it doesn't make much sense for such an applied field.
>>
>>1093341
Thanks!

Also, I'm in Austin, TX. My options are restricted to St. Edward's, the University of Texas, Austin Community College, and Texas State.

So, you would admonish me against accounting unless it were at a top-flight school with placement at the Big Four, correct? ACC has an inexpensive post-bac that would allow me to sit for the CPA, but from what you're saying that might not be the world's best idea.

CS is abundant in terms of options. TX State has a decent program, ACC is a feeder school for the other three, St. Edward's is meh, but UT is the jewel in the crown and is in the top 10 for undergraduate CS programs.

Regarding Actuarial Science, I hear the exams are a slog and are the biggest component like you say in terms of employment. I'm not super keen if I want to study mathematics or statistics explicitly despite doing well in both, but...if necessary I will.

Yo, I am taking an internship in a Sales & marketing department of an american hotel. What extra reading and training can you all recommend so I can get pro at this?

Also if anyone else has been in such a position and has advice, or suggestions I'd like to hear them.

>>

I'm only entry level at the moment so I can't give that much advice. Just in general, make sure you're assertive, have a projective voice and keep a positive attitude. Higher ups in sales are obsessed with that stuff.

What does /biz/ think of my business idea?
So in my country there's 30 or so chemical processing plants that work in anearobic digestion. The main ingredient for this process to work, is waste food, it also has the heighest yield. I'm thinking of hiring/buying a truck or two that I can fill with waste food products and sell to the companies that can refine the waste, and turn it into methane.
Only thing is though, how do I go about getting large enough amounts of waste food, do I start like a campaign or something?

Maybe you can create a company that picks up food waste

Introduce a new bin for wasted food that will save the environment (like recycling bins), collect those from households every week or whatever you have set to collect

Now if you get big enough, maybe you can speak to your government about a collection program for household food waste that'll be environmentally friendly

Yes. I play almost two hours on work nights with my friends to de-stress. We're spread across the country, so we get together and grief 12 year olds on COD.

I make around $150,000 per year at the age of 24.
>>
I own a small business and I play vidya

But, I only play multiplayer steam games with people I know irl, and only like 2-3 times per month
>>
Define successful. I'm a 22 year old high school drop out that started my own Janitorial business and made $60K last year. I work 2-4 hours every evening and spend all day playing video games. I don't consider myself rich or wealthy, but I consider myself successful under my circumstances.

Young guy here (27). Maxing out my Roth IRA. Have $40k not doing anything. Opened betterment account, not funded yet. Want to earn more than the 0.20% from bank savings. Want to be 100% in stocks, no need for bonds at this point. My IRA has VT & VHT.

Betterment or some Vanguard funds?

Betterment: 0.25% costs + expense ratios, Tax Loss Harvesting, automatic rebalancing, "fractional shares" so no uninvested money

Vanguard: free + expense ratios, no TLH, no automatic rebalancing, no fractional shares so potentially some money left on the table

What's better for the **long term**? Any significant differences? If Vanguard, what ETFs or mutual funds? Looking for minimal taxes obviously.

>>1092699 (OP)
Comparing Vanguard and Betterment is like comparing oranges and orange juice. You're paying a premium for the squeeze, when you could easily do it cheaper (and possibly better) on your own.

Betterment just sells you other people's index funds. Betterment allocations include at least 60% Vanguard funds, and even the funds that aren't Vanguard are knock-offs of Vanguard funds.
>>
>>1092699
I think 0.25% compounded over your worklife exceeds the extremely minor inconvenience of yearly rebalance and a few dollars left on the table between new deposits each month
>>
My Roth IRA is with Vanguard. Adding a brokerage with them makes me feel rich.

Anyways, should I just dump everything into VT? Or really break it down into US & international allocations? I just want growth for the long term.
