Soup /biz/.
First time posting.
I work two jobs, make a decent amount (appx. 30k annually) and am looking at investing.
How should I go about this as a beginner?
I want to have a family someday and I want to be able to provide a comfortable living for my wife and kids. Working at cafes for the rest of my life does not fit into this plan.
I've thought about going to college but at this point getting a degree doesn't really seem to be worth the debt.

Tl;dr any advice to someone that wants to make more money, ideally through investing

Also, you retard, college is worth it. 40k tops for a state school comp sci or engineering degree, make 50-60k right off the bat when you graduate

What will happen when the third world outnumbers developed countries and starts asking for more and more aid?

And no, more sacks of flesh doing menial work (or no work) has never ever helped any economy

You're literally talking about the entire Chinese economic boom of the last decade, buddy.

And also why Vietnam is going through their boon now... as their labor is even cheaper than the chinks.

Same with making a successful thread on 4chan. If it's good enough it'll take off on its own.

If doesn't at first OP can let it die, or bump it.

Or OP can samefag bump to pretend people are interested until someone catches on. If it dies just repost it

Am I fired?

I'm working at a factory through a temp agency. I've been there a little over a month now. I just tried logging into my temp agency's website to check my paystubs and I got this message.

>Due to the information produced by the assessment, your self-admitted attitudes and work-related behaviors do not coincide with ____'s mission and goals at this time. There are no ?right? or ?wrong? answers, but the pre-employment evaluation process will be put on hold. You will be eligible to retake the Attitude Assessment in 1 year. After 1 year, you will need to call your local ____ to schedule a time to take the assessment in the office. Thank you for your time.

What the fuck? I have showed up to work everyday and haven't caused any trouble. Even the supervisor likes me and let me train a new guy one night.

I tried calling the office but they are closed. Should I call the factory and ask them?

The people running the company are brainwashed, and will try to brainwash you too. It could be simply a fuckup in their system but I would recommend finding a new job anyway. Otherwise you'll find yourself sitting through "classes" to "train" you on "diversity" and "tolerance".

Why do so many motivational speakers and gurus veer of into the realm of 'the secret" or the "law of attraction?" It seems like someone is making a lot of sense then they start talking about pseudo-science spiritual stuff.

Is it just when they get to something they don't understand or know how to explain?

Shaming skepticism and glorifying delusion is not a good thing. Make smart decisions and work hard, that's what gets you where you want to be, not cutting out pictures of Ferrari and imagining a big villa.
>>
>>1270007
I mean how can otherwise smart people believe things work that way?

When I was 21 my parents offered to buy me a car or give me cash as a reward for getting a 1st in Chemistry (US expat living in London), I have no interest in cars or driving so I picked cash, they gave me 25000 USD (before people accuse me of being a 1%er we're actually middle class I'm just an only child with generous retired parents). I partied with it for about 5-6 months then got around to investing it (also lost time finding a decent brokerage firm and getting verified blah blah blah), I was always huge on finance so I made careful choices of firms who's revenue, dividend, and growth history I liked and made sure to build my portfolio on: Weapons, Engineering, Entertainment, Food, Tech. Basically what I believe the safest investments you can make in America, so with the remaining 21k I had I ended up in Feb with:

20 shares of AMZN
20 shares of LMT
50 shares of DIS
100 shares of NFLX
100 shares of SWHC
25 shares of PEP

All well establish companies with market caps in the billions, none of them gimmicky newfangled shit. Those shares today are worth 39919 once you include dividends. In Feb 2016, after all my cautious growth I decided to take a speculative investment, because of my background in Chemistry I knew I wanted to invest in Lithium, (my dissertation was even on the applications of Lanthanides in electrolytes for Lithium ion batteries), I didn't want to invest in third world countries because they're too corrupt for my liking so I went with Australia. I bought 100,000 shares of GXY in Feb for 14000 AUD, this appealed to me especially because 14000 AUD was half my profit from 2014-2016 so I knew if I lost it all I'd still have profited overall. My total net liquidation today is 60918 USD.

My question is why is /biz/ constantly recommending meme-y investments like cryptocurrencies or tiny pharmaceuticals or random IPOs, instead of focusing on safer S&P 500 companies with proven track records? Are you really that concerned with high-risk quick money?

Hello /biz/
I'm about to invest in real estate. I want to buy houses and rent them out.
If I buy one unit for $X, what would be a reasonable rent $Y?

Is 0.25% - 0.5% okay? To much? To less?

>rent per month btw...
>>
This is big in Australia. Google negative gearing for more information.

Usually per week rent is $100 per $100k of house value is a rough guide.

This has changed in the past few years with the skyrocketing prices in Australia.

My investment property was valued at $570k when it was valued a year ago.
It was rented for $430 per week. This is a house built in the 50s.

It was valued at $650k about a month ago, but rent has not been put up.

Rents are slipping in the area due to a large amount of granny flats being added to existing houses and rented out.

I was in toast masters for a bit. It's a good concept, you just have to find the right group/club. The one I attended had a lot of foreigners and introverts. Not great for one of the biggest "unofficial" purposes of the club, networking. Also not great for learning from others on how to act in front of a crowd. The structure teaches you a lot about good meeting management, the program teaches you a lot about speaking, the feedback system is good if you have the right people watching. Just have to find the right group.

If you're terrible at public speaking, do it just to get some experience. If you're looking for networking, try out a few and sleep on each one before joining. If you're in a large metro area, there should be more than a handful to choose from, so don't feel like you're limited to the club closest to you or whatever.

Gee, I wonder why the CEO of sperbank wants to ditch reliance on the Ruble?

> "Russia's Largest Bank Warns Of A 'Full-Scale Banking Crisis'"

> Evgeny Gavrilenkov, the chief economist at the investment banking arm of Russia's largest lender Sberbank CIB, has warned that actions taken by the Russian authorities to bail out Russia's troubled banking sector could cause a "full-scale banking crisis".

>In essence he thinks that banks may prove unable to pay back loans from the central bank with interest rates now set at 17% and the collateral that they pledge in exchange for it may not be of sufficient quality to cover the losses.

>He estimates that servicing over 7.3 trillion rubles of debt at current interest rates will cost the banks somewhere in the region of 1.2-1.3 trillion rubles ($20 billion) a year.

> Indeed he pointed the finger for the plight of the ruble, which has fallen over 40% this year, squarely at the central bank and the Russian Finance Ministry for "pumping the economy with additional liquidity". In remarks that could be interpreted as highly critical of the government, he also said the unprecedented injections of liquidity had "coincided with a significant increase budget expenditures".

How did you guys get started with online trading? I've been interested in it for a while, but it seems to be very hard to get into. Generally, the advice you get seems to be to "stay away if you don't know what you're doing".

>"stay away if you don't know what you're doing".
That's good advice. Some people actually follow it.
Better advice (that almost no one follows) is to spend time saving an appropriate pile of capital before you even consider it.
Unfortunately, the prevalent groupthink tends to endorse nickel and diming it, despite horrible odds and the brilliant strategy of substituting phone apps for brokers.

Watch markets for a few months and learn to avoid the shills. Know what participants are looking at, reports, fed, earnings, global economic data, etc..

Then watch Robert Shiller's introduction to financial markets to understand them conceptually, and learn about fundamental and technical analysis to know how prices can be affected by such.

Then dive in with a bit of money 500-1000$ on Robinhood is a good starting point and learn from your mistakes.

Pretty recently I've been living pay cheque to pay cheque going out every weekend and spending stupid amounts of money on alcohol and food. This is the case with the majority of my friends, how ever a couple of my friends, are extremely frugle and hate the thought of wasting money.

How does one go about developing this mentality?
