I guess chuck a little bit every month in to saving for IRA contributions. Once you get it in, pick broad ETF's that follow indices.
The low returns early on can be depressing, but trying to multiply it with riskier stuff is generally a bad idea.

Rent a safety Deposit box, buy valuable metals and other materials, not stocks. Stocks and bonds are worth squat. Don't take my word. Instead of looking at what to invest in, look up what not to invest in.

College opens the doors to the most straightforward ways to make the kind of income you want though. Like someone else already said, major in engineering or a health profession and crush your grades and internships and you'll be head and shoulders better off than you are now.
