Hey /biz/, asking for some advice.

Would building speakers using good quality components and high-end aesthetics (such as exquisite hardwoods etc). I could build a good quality speaker for app. 150 dollars and sell it for maybe 200-250 dollars.

Pic related, some of the best speakers out there going for over 100k USD. Phenomenal sound.

So I have the Chase Amazon Rewards card, and I went over my limit (a combination of me taking care of bills and my girlfriend having issues with identity theft) and I went about $200 over my limit. I'm gonna widdle it down once I get paid next week, but am I fucked? I notice that Chase let's you go over your limit and they're pretty generous as far as credit reporting, but I'm still a bit worried.

>>
>>1451793
My understanding is that in US you have to approve overlimit fees. Like you have to sign up for an account that has them.

all my cards can't charge overlimit fees, so if they let me go over my limit that's their problem, not mine.
>>

I guess my main worry is if my credit score's gonna take a huge hit. Paying it off is no problem though. I pay on time and I usually pay more than the minimum. The past two months, I could only pay the minimum though, due to my full time job always closing during the summer.
>>
no don't worry. call the bank. Tell them dates and timves for payment. Everyones questions are answered. all are happy.

Hey /biz/, so a few threads over the last week have pretty much have me asking the question:

What are some tips for buying a car from a dealer to not get fucked?

Let's assume I've got what would be considered "excellent" credit and can definitely afford the monthly payments throughout the pay period. This would be a used car no more than 5 years old. Though in reality it will probably be about 3 years old. I've never bought a car from a dealer before. Also I'm pretty good with cars, so thing I might have the most confidence in is seeing what I could use to devalue the car.

Do I get a loan from a CU? Bank? Finance through the dealer? LendingClub even? Should I refinance whenever I can? What about the actual price out the door?

I always get a loan preapproved through my local bank and then research what I'm planning to buy. Find out what it's worth.

then I go find one and make an offer. If they don't take my offer I walk out and go find someone else. Usually as I'm walking off the lot they chase me down and accept the offer.

then they try to add on a bunch of crap I don't need, undercoating, detailing, fuzzy dice, extended warranty, whatever.

once we turn down all that crap I call my bank and insurance company and get things wrapped up.

I don't buy used cars from dealers though. The markup is ridiculous. You can get much better deals from persons. You just have to have cash or the loan before you go shopping.
>>
>>1451779
>loan preapproved

This is one thing I'm kind of concerned about. I value my credit score pretty highly, how do I be competitive with my score without getting a shit ton of hard pulls? I heard if they're within a 45 day period it's fine?
>>
>>1451849
yeah, if you're shopping then all the pulls count as one.

Both companies still have assets which will likely end up being sold to the gov't. There's no reason for them to go to 0; it'd be like saying their assets are worth nothing.

What is the most useful subject/classes to learn/take to make money or be successful in life?

I would probably argue basic microeconomics and macroeconomics.

The one that gets you the best job possible, so usually something heavily mathematical

Anyone who isn't a retard can teach themselves economics, no need to study it at university
>>
As someone who studies Eco and the Dutch equivalent of MORSE, I'd say Micro and Macro are pretty fucking useless. You could read up on most of that stuff yourself and it's usually not applicable if you're not in a research position.

The only things you'll need everywhere are some basic math (Calc), some stats (T-tests, regressions, etc) and a bit of CS (mainly the programming).

I'm crossposting because this seems like /biz/ can help and /sci/ disallows these threads.

So I'm currently in uni and majoring in mathematics after having to sit out of uni two years. I'd like to get into CS related fields for work, but would like the flexibility of a mathematics degree.

I spoke with advising and discovered that while my major only requires 40 credit hours of mathematics coursework, I cannot get a degree without 80 more hours of unrelated general education courses to be "well rounded". I can't really afford that -- I'm homeless and sleeping in the library/food court lobbies -- and don't want to sink $30-50 grand in debt just to say I took all the filler courses.

I suppose what I'm wondering is, if I get on at a CS related field and want to shift into CE or something, will I have to go back and take all the gen. ed courses, too? Will my employer allow me to just take the relevant coursework if I need engineering training? Why do school require so much filler to graduate?

Current plans/advice
Finish and purchase certification for Harvard CS50X
Do Launchcode
Build a CS portfolio

One, Take the loans idiot. Inflation is eroding them to nothing. You're actually making money the day you sign the dotted line. Assuming you pay everything off.
Worst Case scenario you file for bankruptcy and have to use cash only for 3 years like you're doing now.

I would not be afraid of a deflationary situation.

Second take the Clep and Dantes/DSST for everything you can.

That should knock out over half your filler.

or move to norway.

Get a side job
>>
>>1451619
How many fucking times are you still gonna ask this "question"? Also how the fuck are you homeless?
>>
>>1451619
Also employers don't care whether you have a math or CS degree. I'm majoring in math and got a side job as a programmer.

Is hard work the key to success or is it all luck & a clever hustle?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1451609
it's obviously entirely luck
>>
>>1451609
The first and last thing.

Luck can help, but moderate success can be found through hard work ON THE RIGHT THING. Don't be Sisyphus.
>>
>>1451625
First you have to define success.

But I think of it as ingenuity just multiplies your hard work's value.
If you're a laborer and you think of a shortcut, say a way you can lay more bricks per hour, or spend less time waiting for clay to bake, that without diminishing quality, you can do the same amount of work, but get more out of it.

if you think of a person has having a fixed and finite amount of time and energy they can expend over a day, then obviously if they can better and more tactically expend that energy and use that time the more value they can produce every day.

But who really cares? it's all abstract bullshit.
First you need to HAVE a hustle, hopefully you'll spend your time making money than philosophizing over what's the most effective way to get money.

I needs your help /biz/ regarding this new property I started renting to be near work
>go to estate agency
>see property it looks good
>fast forward 3 long weeks
>finally get the keys after playing deposit and rent
>go to the house
>wash machine door won't open
>oven is not turning on for some reason
>go to agency the day after (today) in the morning to tell them about it
>"yeah we are sending x today to check the oven and we will fix the wash machine asap"
>get no call through the day
>go to the house again a bit earlier
>same problems, find out that hot water is also not working
I will go tomorrow again, will they fix this? Why didn't they fix it in the whole 3 weeks while I waited. I already put over 1k into this, and I don't have much money left. Why am I so unlucky, what if I go tomorrow and they are like "yeah you have to pay with your own money even if we told you to come back to us and report any issues you find".
Should I sue, see a lawyer? Do I ask too much for being able to cook, wash my clothes and myself?
So is the struggle of a poorfag, if you can help me in any way please.
I dont have much time and data left, I will look at the thread from time to time, please respond.

I would say don't worry about it because it sounds like they will fix all of it, they just sound lazy. But if they do say you have to pay for it I would suggest just cutting your losses and getting out, if you really have a lack of capital suing someone is the last thing you want to do.
>>
If they do not fix the issues in a reasonable amount of time, then they are breaching the tenancy agreement. They property manager / landlord has an obligation to ensure the property and it's fixtures and fittings are appropriately working.

I would keep following up with them in a polite but firm manner, and ask that you receive a reduction in rent up until the time that all of these issues are fixed adequately.

The best thing is just to stay calm, but be persistent. People are just lazy, so if you're proactive and chase them up then hopefully it will make them sort it sooner
>>
>>1451542
>>1451550
Thanks I really wish they are quick about it but I doubt it, I will probably end up going to them several times just like I did with the key. I am not fucking paying for that boiler with my money it should work, just like the other two.
I will see what I can do tomorrow, if they give me the usual "we will try asap to fix this and that" I will have to go again on Monday.
They could have taken care of this in the weeks they made me wait, instead the agent that was talking to me usually took a holiday in that period, and x guy only checked the house just the morning before I could pick up the keys. I don't know why they are fucking with me so much.
