When you say "sticks her ass in their face" you mean like... standing on their lap turned away from them? Because all cats do that. Who fucking cares?

Hey /an/
I bought a purebred Shiba Inu, show quality. Currently 13 weeks old.
She's on a breeding contract, and so far besides teething, she's great. She loves learning, already know a lot of tricks, but is having a little trouble leash training. ( I need some advice for that please )

I want to be a reputable breeder, and recently found out that for some reason it seems you 'need' to put your dog in the show ring for it to be show quality.

Her parents are champs, and she's been bred for show quality, but I don't understand why she'd need to enter in shows?

It seems like a big old people circle jerk to me.

Do I have to take her to a show? I live in a rather small city that doesn't do shows (I'd have to drive quite far for them). So if they ARE necessary, would there be another option to take her to a private judge as a different option.
I know there are people who show dogs for you for a fee, but I still think they're redundant.

OR TLDR: Convince me why I should show my purebred dog in the ring, she's meant to produce amazing pups in her future, and be an amazing companion.

( on iPod, not sure how big pic will be )

>for some reason it seems you 'need' to put your dog in the show ring for it to be show quality.
that's literally what show quality is

why do you need your dog to be show quality? answer: you don't, fuck off.

>she's meant to produce amazing pups in her future
now you can REALLY fuck off, future byb

I'm not going to become a byb

I'm going to follow the ethics and responsibilities that are being a reputable breeder.

I'm not breeding for the money, but for improving the breed.

I'm not going to raise puppies in a half assed diy dirty whelpinv box. But a clean and large whelping box with a dedicated room for when they are learning to walk.

I've learned all of the ethics, but it's never been clear to me if shows are necessary to show how amazing your dog is.
>>
>>1999826
Also I should have worded that last part better and explained.

She's not going to become a breed mule. The original reason I wanted her on a breeding contract was because I hate spay/neutering pets. It'd be horrible if you lost your privates, right? And it also can damage how long they'll live, I just feel bad thinking about missing a few more possible years with a beloved animal.
I eventually started thinking that it'd be nice if she could experience having a family herself, since it was a possibility. I talked with the breeder, and she wouldn't have sold me the pup if she thought I wasn't responsible enough. And her daughter is our vet, so regular check ups are a thing.

Hey /an/ alot of times when I walk to work a magpie swoops at me.I understand this is seasonal but would giving it food help tame it?Just curious or will it always be a cunt?

If it is an aussie magpie like the one in the pic, it's probably attacking/warning you to keep you away from its kids/nest/territory.

If they are half as intelligent as "normal" magpies, they'll probably get nicer if you feed them.
>>
>>1999381
It is an Aussie magpie I thought birds were smart enough to recognize people? What type of food should I give it?If it continues to despite trying to show I'm no threat I'll just walk the long way around that street.
I think its just the same one that normally swoops me never seen too many together in the street I walk.I have seen a smaller one one some wires near a tree though.
>>
>>1999382
Not sure what to feed them. I've heard that white bread is a no-no. Some people claim that whole grain bread is good, however, and that's what I use when I feed birds.

Try starting out by simply dropping crumbs on the ground when you pass by, and see if their behaviour begins to change.

/an/ my outdoor cat recently started getting this scab on her chin. What is it and how do i treat it? I dont have any money for a vet,im jobless and literally have $10 to my name right now...latelly i think shes been wandering out further so i think shes coming into more contact with other cats.

If you're broke then for ducks sake keep your cat indoors. You cannot afford the inevitable vet bills that come with an outdoor cat.
>>
>>1999099
My cat actually got the exact same thing about a month ago. His shin fur is still thin, but the black spots went away and reb pimple things have gone away too.

That said, you should take your cat to the local animal shelter anc explain to them that you can't afford the vet bill. They have seen every problem under the sun there and will help you out if they can. That's what I do with my cats.
>>
Looks like bad acne. Can become infected/abscessed. Keep your cat indoors, you dumb shit, or it might turn into worse.

So I've recently begun feeding the corvids that hang out by the pond at my university. There are mainly magpies there, plus a few crows. There are jackdaws in the area, too, but they stay away from thepond for some reason(possibly because of the magpies; I've observed antagonism between magpies and jackdaws in the past).

In any case, I've noticed that it's incredibly hard to feed the crows whenever there are magpies around. They might start going in for the food, but as soon as they notice that a magpie is on its way there, they beta out and retreat. This seems to be the case even when the concerned magpie is low down on the social ladder.

Can anyone explain this behaviour? Is the crow simply afraid of magpies when they are in big groups?

Also Corvid general, I guess.

What makes you say that?

Magpies are incredibly aggressive birds, so I don't think they're particularly afraid of having it on with the crows. But I've never actually seen crows and magpies fight, maybe they have a truce.
>>
>>1997690
Well, I haven't noticed any fighting between the crows and the magpies, with one exception: last year, a magpie couple began building a nest in a tree just outside my apartment building. However, before they were finished, a crow couple, who might have had a nest in a tree nearby appeared, and simply drove them off. There was no violence; the magpies were just chased away. Today, a few sticks still hang in the tree as a monument of their lost ambitions.

Anyway, it's still appears that the crow at my uni is giving the magpies(even the pleb magpies) precedence while eating.
>>
>>1997678
Magpies can get really territorial regardless of size. With crows they do seem to have an armistice of sorts going. I have seen magpies chasing around full grown peregrine falcons though. They don't care.

How do you teach your dog that certain things are forbidden properly?

>got a 5 months old dachhund
>he's constantly in our neighbors garden, despite patching up holes
>neighbor has a larger cat the dog grew up with, they don't hurt each other, but play occasionally
>this morning hear a cat mewling from over the fence, can't see clearly through the bushes but assume they are playing
>whatever, if he was really hurting he'd run away, had to go working anyway
>tonight it turns out the neighbor got a very sweet, tiny kitten and it was that the dog was molesting and biting

Now, i'm not a violent person, and I never hurt this dog, but I wanna hit that son of bitch until he's dead. How can I make it perfectly clear to him, if he so much as looks at that kitten again, I will end him? That going over to the neighbor is absolute taboo?

If the kitten was in your yard you have done nothing wrong.
>>
>>1996905
The kitten was at the neighbors. the dog too. So it is his fault. My fault. The wire fence is almost as tall as me, so in theory he shouldn't be able to get through, but there is one particular hole that constantly needs patching up.
Short of tethering him to a dog house, what can I do?

Alright /an/imals. I rescued a little black monster from my work parking lot yesterday after some asshole threw him out of their car window. He's been checked out and he isn't sick or injured.

I've decided to keep the little guy. My German Shepherd has basically adopted him and is protecting him like the fantastic guard dog he is. We had a cat previously and they were best buds and it looks like the same is going to happen again.

Before anyone gets up in arms, I am still keeping the two separated for the most part and I never leave the kitten alone with him despite how fucking adorable they are together.

Here's the thing. I can't come up with a name for the little guy. I'll try to put a picture up sometime tonight but he's between 4 and 8 weeks old, solid black and has pale green-grey eyes.

The German Shepherd's name is Renly but I'm not sure I want to commit to naming the cat after a GoT character. Renly wasn't my idea to begin with.

Currently my top picks are Orion and Jarvis but I'm sure I'll get vetoed on my pick for either of those. So. Help me out, /an/. Anyone have some good suggestions for names for a little black ball of fluff?

Is it normal for a puppy to do this after a long nap?

It's like her legs are asleep or she can't decide if she wants to stay on the couch or get off so she just stays in that position even though it seems really uncomfortable.

My dog developed a dry rash on her chest on November 1st. It appeared to be dry patches, some were scabby. By November 3rd her chest broke out in small red spots, which quickly spread to her belly and groin. She has had minor rashes before, but never like this. My neighbor lent me some itch spray. When that didn't work, we bought a medicated shampoo. Note that at this time, she was not itchy, but the redness and irritation was concerning.

We washed her with the shampoo Nov. 6th and Nov. 8th. The spots went down, and most of the dry patches have disappeared. On the morning of November 9th she was covered in hives, very agitated and itchy. We gave her benadryl, and tried to wash her again. She hated the shampoo, which got me thinking maybe she was having a reaction to the shampoo.

So this morning, Nov. 10th, I ran out again before work and bought her a basic oatmeal shampoo and a different spray. She took the shampooing just fine, but flinched and ran from the spray. The shampoo alone greatly reduced her itching, however the hives have not gone away yet. This is now a full two days with hives.

Is it possible she's allergic to Tea Tree Oil? it's one of the only ingredients in the spray but not the shampoo. It was also in the first shampoo I bought, and the spray my neighbor lent to me.

I'm planning to bring her to the vet if the hives don't recede tomorrow morning, but is this overreacting? I can't figure out what would cause all of this in secession.
