Help me decide anons.

I'm getting a dog soon and my options are:

Jack shih (pic related) or a jack russell terrier pure bred

Also, would anyone be able to predict what pic related would look like as an adult? I'm hoping it has prominent jack russell genes

Hopefully doesn't grow up to look as stupid as this dog of the same breed
>>
>>1992762
Jack russells are little maniacs. I had a really great shih tzu and so I like the breed... the dog in pic related looks great, it doesn't look like it has the retarded flat snout from the shih tzu. I'd go with that one.

They're small but really agressive and hyperactive and hard to train.

My uncle had one, it slaughtered my cousin's rabbit (destroyed the cage too)

So I got my 6 month old puppy half socialized?

He HATES dog parks but like sniffing dogs at petsmart and playing with dogs smaller than him in puppy classes. He's 11 pounds and cool around aloof/non hyper dogs.

How can I help him like the small dog park?
He gets intimidated when other dogs play as rough as he does with people

My puppy is a little over 7 months now, and I don't want to buy him a coat and have him grow out of it, so I'd prefer to wait until he's at least ten months (the low end of his growth finalization) old.

However, we live in Denver, and our winters can be unpredictable. Two years ago/last year we had a few weeks where it was in the negative 20s, but the only time I remember it reaching the negatives before then was in...2007? Usually our winters hover around 20 degrees. Then we always have a good amount of days in February where it gets to 70. You get where I'm going with this...?

My point is, when will be a good time to buy my dog a coat, and what kind? I was thinking something like pic related. He's a retriever mix with a double coat, so should I get something lighter, or even not anything at all?

I'm also concerned about what the best brands/types of booties are since we live in an apartment and he WILL have to walk regularly on salted/de-iced pavement, guaranteed. I've heard those rubber booties that look like water balloons are good because they allow the dog to feel the ground and he won't hate them as much, but I'm concerned about them freezing to the ground if it gets to be like last winter.

>>
what type of dog is it? most don't need a coat unless you're in the arctic.
>>
>>1992479
Golden retriever mix, but he's sort of small for his age--45 pounds at 7 months. Wondering if his size will factor into his ability to keep warm.
>>
I use the rubber booties like you mentioned, they work great, just make sure you keep his nails short. As far as the coat, if he has a double coat then he probably doesn't need it. For my dog, anything over 20°F she still gets overheated to her usual degree from play. 20°F-0°F I try to limit her to around 30 min outside, and below 0°F I limit her to just elimination walks.

Do you guys put TV on for your animals? How about music? What do they like?

I've tried putting on birds for my cat but she always seems uninterested. Sometimes she watches action-movies though!

I like to put on videos of squeaking puppies, barking dogs, howling wolves and injured prey animals just for the pleasure of watching my dogs lose their shit trying to figure out where it's coming from and what to do about it. My big dog stares at me beseeching me to solve it and my little dog tries to bite my big one for not fixing the madness.
>>
When I first got my puppy i didn't have the TV on for like three days, one morning I bring her down and it's already on, she looks at me like are you seeing this shit!? Then sat and watched a whole episode of ncis. She's not so mesmerised by it anymore but I do play her alot of wolf sounds to try and encourage her to howl, no joy yet tho.

Found out today that we're going have to put down our cat. We found him under a bush in our backyard back in 1999, and named him Pikachu because I was a little kid and Pokemon was the coolest thing. We figure he was a stray, probably inbred, definitely had a whole host of neurosis and physical problems. He bonded with my mom, and would follow her around everywhere like a shadow.

He used to be a really wild guy, but as he got older he mellowed somewhat and would let you pet him. Ended up sleeping on people's beds quite peacefully. When he was little he could eat anything, but one day he got some salmon as a treat and it upset his stomach something awful. I think it broke his confidence, because he's become more and more of a picky eater since.

He had a big personal space bubble, but he was always interested in what we were doing - when I'd be playing with toys in the living room, he'd come in and just stand in the middle, lashing his tail. He didn't really know how to play, but he wanted to be involved anyway.

17-odd years isn't bad, right? That's pretty good for a cat who by all rights should've died under the wheels of a car if we hadn't taken him in. And he's gotten into so much trouble besides that, mainly through his own stupidity, that I figure he's probably used up at least 9 lives.

So, this December we will be introducing a puppy to our lives. My spouse and I have no children, and she desperately wants a pup. She works from home and we had a English Bulldog, whom is no longer with us, in the past. I want to know some Doxie facts, food suggestions and product suggestions and tips from Dachshund owners, if you dont mind? We have our hearts set on a female and we already have her paid for from an experienced breeder in our area who we quickly became friends with. I stalk these boards frequently so I value all opinions. I don't have any experience with a small breed and I heard house breaking will be difficult so do you mind telling me what to watch for?

Respectfully- Me

>don't let them jump
>don't let them jump off/on the couch or bed(or anything)
>don't let them use the stairs
>don't get them stairs/ramps to get off/on the bed/couch
>don't let them run around much but you also need to exercise them so they don't get fat
>dapples usually have hearing and eyesight loss, if not going straight up blind/deaf
>don't let them be a dog in general

They are also prone to being very nasty and spoiled unless you are sure to socialize them. Sure this is true for any dog, but dachshunds are just more prone to it. Also if you valued our opinions you would have asked us or did your research first.

Also a lot of dachshunds are territorial and yappy. You will want to train against that.

I recently did a work trial day at a dog shelter. it started off great, I spent some time walking some dogs and walked a large Rottweiler who I fell in love with. A part of me wanted to take him home right there. He was a big gentle teddy, he was only in the home because he was a family pet who's kids became bored of him as he was so docile and sleepy. I was playing ball with him for about 30 minutes and petting him, he was really fantastic. I was in love! So at the end of my work trial I asked if I could play with him again and cuddle him. By cuddle I obviously meant pet him and scratch him, not literally embrace. However the kennel owner lost it and said dogs are not to be cuddled and he said anyone who'd want to cuddle these dogs was an idiot. So I got rejected for the job as I was a "cuddle risk".

I had been dealing with "problem" dogs all day, and have a huge amount of dog experience, I know when a dog can be pet or not. But anyway, my questions are:

1) is this normal shelter attitude towards the animals? Each one is a beast? This dog had been tested rigoursly for aggression and passed with flying colours. He is posted on the site as a "family friendly dog" !

2) how do they expect people to want shelter dogs when they treat them like this?

lol
one can get too familiar with dogs, if you know what I mean.
>>
>>1992046
I don't understand. You mean too confident? I dealt with problem dogs all morning and knew my boundaries. I am experienced in dealing with dogs from all sorts of life and know how to read body language. I do not feel I am overconfident however, as when I checked the adoption listing for this dog they said about him everything I had thought about him
>>
My friend who worked in a shelter said they're all guilty until proven innocent, guys with a lot of experience have been fooled before and won't get bitten by a seemingly good dog again, also if any dogs do bite you because you fucked up and literally cuddled him that dog would have to be terminated.
Also don't get personal with the dogs, they're there to be rehomed, it wouldn't be good to get too attached.

Hey /an/,
I have a question about my 2 dwarf hamsters, I got them this Saturday, they were both 5 weeks old and from the same litter.

In the beginning there were no problem with them but yesterday and today there have been a lot of squeaking from one of them.

What I have seen is that the one on the right(Magnus) is walking to the other(Mikkel), Mikkel starts falling on his back and starts squeaking, then Magnus goes away.
The problem is that sometimes Magnus sorta chase after Mikkel, until Mikkel falls on his back and one time I saw Magnus bagin biting(?) Mikkels nether region (around the scent glands).

Now everytime Mikkel goes near Magnus, Magnus falls on his back and squeaks, however sometime they can be together, sharing houses, mostly when Magnus sleeps.

Are they just playing or is there going to be a bloodbath one day? What is going on?

It should be noted that it all began after I tried taming them, Magnus were more social and got in my hands, could my scent on Magnus be freaking Mikkel out?
>>
Hamsters are shitty pets and it looks like your setup is WAY too small to be housing multiple robos.
>>
>>1991849
Actually now that I look, they are Campbell's dwarf hamster and not robos. Either way hamsters are still shitty creatures and your setup is way too small, which only makes them fight more.

Is it okay to legally kill animals?

Have you ever eaten too much and thrown away food, especially meat?

If the answer to this is "yes" then it might be legally ok, but ethically it makes you a bit of a twat.
>>
>>1991688
I don't know why you would choose a bow. If you go by "don't shoot unless you're sure it's a kill", it must be have a very high skill requirement.

My brother learned an important lesson that day about leaving his paintings on the floor. My cat did not learn a lesson about sitting on wet paint.

Earlier I was trying to get my puppy to bring me a toy with the command 'pull' as in bring it over here for a tug of war, she looks at me with a smile and climb around the back of my mum and mouths her ponytail, I tell her leave it, come here.. She does... Mum doesn't have her hair yanked, I feel like my dog can speak English cuz she was gunna pull my mums hair and obeyed me
