How can you love animals but not feed your pet a vegan diet?

>I love animals that I grind them up and give them to my pet

How is that logical?
24 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>hows it logical that im gonna grind your bones to make my bread?
that's the magic of fiction
>>
Well in the case of dogs, you can and people do but in cats you can't. I think it is strange that you don't get this concept. Human attachment is hardly indiscriminate about anything from personal relationships, politics, entertainment and more. Dogs/cats/pets are companion animals and people love and care for them including their diet. Any animal can be a companion animal, there are people with pet cows and those people would probably rather eat a strange dog than their beloved cow. But cats and dogs specifically lend themselves well to domestic situations so they are more common companion animals. The discriminatory facto that separates a food animal from a companion animal is simply that they accompany humans. The cows and pigs ground up in that bag weren't the personal companions of anyone.

Everyone operates on this "hypocrisy" of feeling about various shit because life isn't fair or full of justice.

But some food producers do love and care for their animals as well. It isn't mutually exclusive. It is actually very natural and if you weren't separated from the source by supermarkets you'd not have an issue with it either. Animal husbandry is rewarding and a good source of nutrition.
>>
Don't misuse the word logic to apply to this. What you are describing is emotion, not logic.

If you used logic, you would realize it is logical to feed animals that eat other animals food that is other animals. If you used stupid, hippy vegan emotional bullshit as a substitution for logic, however, you would try to force your feelings onto animals just to say you preserved your delicate sensibilities, but you don't actually care about your animal companion.

2/10 bait, but there are actually people who think this, and they are dipshits.

Has anyone here had an aggressive chinchilla? No, more than aggressive, plain nuts actually. I've had the fucker for over 6 months now and he hates me more than ever. He is sharing the cage with his son, which is adorable, so he is never alone, he is allowed to go outside the cage 4 hours a day, he eats the best food possible, I give him treats every two days, he has toys, a nice house, he chewed my furniture as well...
Apart from being a poo shotgun, he is the biggest asshole I've seen. He always grits his teeth in anger whenever I come near him, he bites me, pisses on me, barks at me. Sometimes he is a little mean to his son, nothing serious though.

What the fuck can I do? His hatred seems to grow with every single day even though I've always been nice to him.

Pic related, biggest jerk I've ever seen.

You're in your home, an animal can't break in, and if it does just call the emergency number. Here's a cute doggie to calm you.

Guys, I think I managed to accidentally kill my betta.
So the poor bastard was originally a zoology lab test subject. We used him to study his reaction to various stressors (look, if you stick a mirror next to him, he gets really pissed!), and at the end of the lab the TA asked if anyone wanted to take one of them home. So I took him, fed him when I got home, then the next day got a tank and stuff and prepared it for him.
Problem is, I've never owned a betta before, so I took him straight from the little cup he was in straight to the warm water. It's been a few hours, and so far, he hasn't moved, doesn't respond to taps, and doesn't move when I get him out of the water. I think he finally kicked the bucket, just as he got a new home. He was moving when I put him in the new tank, so I think I just managed to finally shock him so badly he just said "fuck it."
I'm going to leave him there overnight, and hopefully when I wake up, he'll just be all "dude I was asleep thanks for the new home" but I have a feeling he's gone to the giant Mekong Basin in the sky. If so, at least he died freeish, with the right and proper flushing down the toilet for his final send-off.
RIP little buddy. I named him Wang Chung. I'll miss him and the two whole days we had together.

nice job.
you could try again but with water conditioner and the right temperature of water and maybe a cycled aquarium if you like.

read up, you'll do better next time!
>>
>>2002227
I had conditioned and warmed up the water, but I didn't warm his cup water up, so I think the shock of the temperature change finally did him in.
I hadn't figure on him lasting terribly long anyway.
>>
>>2002228
depends how warm the water was I suppose. They can handle small temperature changes, and the water shouldn't feel warm to your hand. The right temp feels neutral or a bit cold to most people.

but you might as well give it another try since you got him a tank and whatnot. They don't cost much, and they can live a few years usually.

Is it poor form to "get rid" of an entire school of fish if I'm bored of them? I'm not killing them or anything, one of the LFS's in town (the shittier one) will take back just about any fish. I wanna get rid of my school of 13 Neon Tetras. Why I'm bored of them should be obvious.

What should I replace them with? I have a school of 8 Gold Barbs in the tank + 3 Otos. I was thinking about throwing a GBR in as a centerpiece fish. Any suggestions? I want either one large-schooling fish like the tetras that are being replace, or at least two other species of schooling fish that can either school together or require less members to school.

Running a "tall" 60 Gallon dirted tank.

Those look like what I call Bluegill.
Used to be in just about every pond around when I was a kid.

So my cat has gone missing yet again. He is an outdoor cat and we let him come and go from the house as he pleases during the day. He has gone missing several times since we got him 11 years ago; the last time being out for over a week before he came back on his own as if nothing had happened. I've decided that if he does come back that I am never letting him outside again and reintroducing him to the litter box so I don't have to deal with the stress of maybe never seeing him again

Is is possible to do this to a cat who is already technically a senior? Could it have any kind of negative impact on him?

Pic sort of related; my cat looks pretty similar but with a black spot on his head and his tail complete black

> He is an outdoor cat
only legit response you're going to get is it's dead and that's all you deserve as shit owner.
>>
>>1997710

Yeah, it should be fine. Obviously the biggest issue is mental stimulation, so find toys he likes and play with him as much as you can. As a senior he should be slowing down more anyway, so it's for the best.

He won't like it to start with, but with any luyck he'll get over it. Take him outside sometimes, but watch him and don't let him run out of the yard and give him a stand near a window to look out of.

The lab is the UK's favourite dog.
The Chinese Crested, bulldogs and the poodle are amongst the least loved.

25% of Britons own dogs; and 25% own cats.

The Border Collie comes in second.
The top ranking dogs are mainly mid-sized working or herding dogs, often originating in Britain. The Alaskan Husky is the only real exception, known for its efficiency as a sled dog in North America; the other being the Golden Retriever, a gun dog but still hailing from Britain and Europe.

The dogs with the least positivity (in fact all ten at the very bottom of the 356 breeds are in negative territory) tend to be smaller dogs, either of the toy variety or notorious for their bad temper.

https://yougov.co.uk/news/2015/11/20/revealed-britains-most-loved-dog-breeds/

Collie > Lab.

Don't see why people like Labs. Boring coats, boring build.
Surprised the springer spaniel isn't up top. I had one and half the (black) labs it came across would try to attack him; one damn near killed him once.

I don't know how much you can really take away from this survey, given that one of the least favourite dogs is the Staffordshire bull terriers (I assume that's whatever the fuck a Bullboxer Staff is meant to be), yet they're one of the most popular breeds. And if you asked a bunch of people which dogs they like most, how many would really bring up their specific dislike of the Miniature Xoloitcuintl? There's probably like six in the entire UK.

How much time should someone spend with their dog a day? Like 2 long (45 min) walks and an hour of playtime inside? He has backyard access and CANNOT be trusted on carpets ever
11 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
That seems pretty depressingly short. They're social animals. Have you considered working with a trainer on the carpet issue? Or crate training him out of it? Or is there a non carpeted space? Or maybe you can do several play sessions?

What kind of outdoor enclosure does he have? If it is like a spacious yard or run that you can put enrichment item in then that might not be so bad. But if it's just chained up, to me that's borderline cruel.
>>
>>2002051

Well he's 6 months old and a rat terrier. Got one class so far (knows sit, stand, stay, and come here) and also ALL his vaccinations even a microchip and lyme disease.

He has every part of the house that's not linoleum.

He's usually good at pissing on his pissing mat even though I walk him but he just peed right in front of me and he's locked up in the crate.

I do play tug of war or wrestle with him if I have to go to the kitchen or just sit down there an hour or two. He WAS ok with being in my room but he pisses instantly once he enters my room and fuck that..

He has a spacious yard but just sits by the door most of the time and just wastes his opportunities. He ate a bird once! It's like 1/4 of an acre and 30% is a pine tree area and the rest is grass backyard. We also have downstairs neighbors that spend time in the yard but he avoids the fuck out of them for some reason (prolly cuz they have 4 loud annoying tail yanking kids all under the age of 12)
>>
>>2002056

He pissed in the crate? Take him to the vey and have the vet take a look because that sounds like it could be some kind of bladder infection/uti which aren't uncommon in puppies. Typically any dog will do anything they can to avoid eliminating where they sleep.

If not that, since he is so young I'm pretty sure some training might really help. Or if you're unwilling to do that you should find him a new home. But I really don't think the idea of keeping him outside all the time will make either of you happy.

I'd like to know what should I be aware of when choosing a breeder!

Chose a breeder that does the necessary health testing; OFA and CERF. Ask the breeder for a copy of the paperwork on both parents.
