Is it? Always assumed posts like these were bots that made it past captcha

Actually going to agree with you on this one buggy, people here still assume 4chan is still some secret underground thing. It never really has been, its more like a bunch of underage teenagers drinking white lightning on a park bench. Most people avoid it, but at the same time pity it for how much of a badass it thinks it is.

what are some /an/ approved dog training methods? i have decided to get a dog when the winter passes, and i want to be prepared when the time comes. naturally, i want to cover all the basic stuff, but i would also like to train the dog to be protective of me and my house, and to start or stop manically barking on command. any pointers or recommended resources are appreciated. pic unrelated

>i would also like to train the dog to be protective of me and my house

this is a slippery slope. teaching human-aggression (which is basically what you mean when you say "protective") in a creature whose decision making processes are much narrower than our own can be dangerous, to say the least. and there is always a trade-off. when you teach a dog to be a "guard dog," it doesn't understand well in which situations it needs to go by what you have taught it, and in which situations you're just bringing over your new girlfriend, or whatever.

if you're attached to the idea of a protective dog, you're better off just going with a breed that's more innately attentive and making very sure you're drilling in the discipline.

there are a bunch of really good resources out there, but just stay away from cesar milan. and if you see the phrase "alpha roll" stay away from anyone who recommends that as well.

thanks for the input. i will read up on naturally protective breeds. one of my family is expecting a litter of english mastiff/great dane puppies, i was thinking about grabbing one of them.
>>
>>2003611

it's a little scary at first, but just realize that it's not rocket science. take everything you read with a grain of salt and recognize you always just have to be smarter than the dog. they have literally evolved alongside us to serve us as companions and tools. producing a well-trained dog is time-consuming, but the malleability is there, ingrained in his genetics. that said, puppies are lovable little retards and will do their best to prove everything i said wrong. shitting in the house, pissing in your shoes, chewing on your power cords, etc. but it all goes away with time and firm discipline.

good luck, anon

I'm getting a puppy soon and I've been thinking about keeping her mostly on raw meat. I have a couple questions.

How do I know how much to give her?

Can I trust her not to choke on a bone as a baby? I initially thought about feeding her ground beef/turkey while she is young, but that wouldn't be any fun. Especially if she is teething, she would want a bone or something chewy. I'd imagine getting raw chicken wings, but I fear the bone might be a bit too small that it might hurt her. I could be wrong about the size though.

I don't know, maybe I'm underestimating her intelligence, but I just want to be cautious.

You have a lot of research ahead of you. You're going to need to carefully calculate the appropriate amount and composition of the food she needs. Because, for example, muscle meat is low in the way of vitamins so you'll need to add a supplement or organ meat too. And raw, meaty bones. You want larger bones for this, chicken wings aren't good for that. To be sure you're doing that all right you're going to need to contact an animal nutritionist or at the very least experts on raw feeding.

The only way to bypass a complicated process of acquiring the proper ratios and what not is to buy a prepackaged raw meat dog food blend. They're expensive but foolproof.

But really it's actually perfectly fine, even better maybe because it's so easy to fuck up raw diets, to just but good quality meat only/mostly meat canned food or even kibble. And just give her some raw meaty bones sometimes for the fun of it.
>>
Bird bones are a no-no. They will splinter and injure the dog's intestine. If you want to give her bones, give big ones.

Feed your dog offal, especially green tripe if you can get it. I don't think proper ratios are that important as long as you feed the dog a variety of meats and offal.

There should be tables online giving info how much protein/carbs/fats a dog of specific age/weight/breed needs. Look them up.
>>
If you're on Facebook there are actually a number of Facebook groups with lots of good information compiled for beginners. I would recommend joining a few of these groups, just so you have people you can reach out to for questions. Unfortunately there are only a few people on /an/ with experience formulating and feeding a raw diet.

BTW, where do you live?

Looks like a GSD/Rottie mix. You'd need to take it to the vet for a real aging. From the first pic it looks around 1 year, but the second pic he could be 1-5ish.

I'd like to work one on one with exotic animals. Actually interacting and carrying for them is preferred. What career choices do I have? And what type of careers follow that sort of work? I looked into zoo keeper and animal rehabilitation but It doesn't seem like the type of job that is financially stable, and 20k a year median wage. Is there anything I'm missing? Does zoology let u work with zoos for study? Do you actually interact with the animals or study from afar? I wouldn't mind wildlife vet but I'm not sure I'll be comfortable if I have to put any of the animals down, unless there's no chance of saving them and they are in pain. Thanks /an/

That's a dream a lot of us animal lovers want. To work with animals, especially exotics. Most jobs relating to animal care don't pay well, but if you love the work you do, you should do it regardless.

You can work in an exotic vet office. I've heard even being a veterinarian doesn't pay well (any vets here feel free to say I'm wrong), but again, it's something they love and put their whole heart into. No better way to get close to animals besides your own. I'm sure everyone who works as a vet worries about putting down animals and having to tell their owners. I doubt you get entirely used to it. But also imagine all the things you can do to save a bunch of animals. They go to you because they need you. If you have to put them down, you're still helping by not letting them suffer. If you never had to put down an animal as a vet, it would be the perfect job. But no job is perfect. I'd rather deal with that than working retail and dealing with cunty customers all day.

Also, I think you can work as just a receptionist at a vet clinic without a license. That way you could get a taste of the veterinarian life before you go to school for it.

Hey /an/ could you please settle this for me and my friend.

The biggest male gorilla ever vs the biggest polar bear ever. Who wins?

I've used forums but most of the responses are along the lines of "I'm a gorilla and have killed 9 polar bears"

Please help xoxoxoxo

My piece of shit rabbit just took a chunk out of my finger. I wasn't provoking him at all, the little fucker suddenly turned around and bit while sitting in my lap.

He also likes to bite and scratch at my clothes, but I took it as a sign of affection so I didn't try to stop him from doing it. Well now I'm bleeding everywhere and that smug little shit is sitting in his hutch staring at me.

What can I do other than cut his balls off? I don't have money for unnecessary vet bills.

You got a rabbit. Give it stuff to chew. Their teeth constantly grow. Maybe that will prevent it from biting you.
As a pet owner, when you get a pet, you take on responsibility for it's well being.
Neutering a rabbit isn't expensive.
Save some money & stop being selfish.
Even after the neuter, he could and probably will continue to bite.
Some rabbits are just dicks.
>>
>>2002544
He has plenty of things to chew in his cage.

Well now you've just given me another reason not to get him neutered, if it probably won't change jack shit why even do it? I don't see how I'm being "selfish" by not wanting to chop an animal's nuts off unnecessarily.

Hey guys I was thinking about making some /an/imations and was just wondering if you guys think its a good idea.

Would you watch a show where each episode is based on a different animal and its struggles, triumphs and eventual death?

No dialogue or humanised personalities, just animals being animals but in a dramatised manner.

>No dialogue or humanised personalities, just animals being animals but in a dramatised manner.

No. Why bother? Even if you were an amazing animator with a unique or well developed style, really there's no point in doing this when we can just watch real animals. Your animation isn't going to truly capture everything about them.

You don't need dialog but have an interesting story to go along with it. You want people to keep interested. Also animation is basically dead if you're a free lancer, btw.
>>
>>1999319
This is true but i remain hopeful in my endeavors. If I can still enjoynanimating then Ibcall it a victory.

Also yes there would definitely be story lines andntwiwts etc.

It would just follow one individual animal from one individual species and the things it must go through

So if these animals were more common and less expensive, would you buy a domestic fox? Are there any ways a domesticated fox could be useful besides companionship, such as hunting?

no I'm pretty happy with cats as a pet. a pet fox could be useful for catching mice inside and pissing on everything.
>>
>>2001422
They're domesticiated, but that doesn't make them good pets, so no.
>>
>>2001422
Hell no. Just about everything a fox can do (besides appearance) a dog breed exists for it and will be better at it. I'd never get a fox.
