Anyone have any experience with them?

I've read quite a bit, but want to get some anecdotal information now.

They're herding/guard dogs so expect them to go insane without rigorous exercise.

Is 2 to 2.5 hours of exercise a day not enough (walking, jogging, hiking, swimming, fetch, field search games)? I can do more on days off work.

That would be one dedicated midget. Also, I'm uncertain how they managed to go from the size of a medium cat to reaching my mid-thigh at the withers. That'd be a neat magic trick to learn.

They would kill off all the birds, mice and rats for fun because they're psychotic serial killers. With no humans to feed them, they would starve and the population would drastically drop before leveling off at a significantly lower number than there currently is.

The size of a small bay should be enough if you provide enough stimulation (and companionship - they're social animals and not likely to be happy alone)

hi /an/.
I just picked up a husky from a shelter today. he is an adult, i think the vet said 1-2 yo, he was busy so he kinda parried me. anyway, I was wondering a few things:
Can I still train him for at least basic commands or should I forget about it unless I am ready to put in hours every day?

Can I wash him? If yes, how should I do it?
Any particular thing I shouldn't feed him?

Also open to any other suggestions

Huskies are very high-energy because they were bred to be sled dogs. They are also very intolerant of heat so you have to be aware of that. If you would be uncomfortable outside in a coat then your dog should not be outside.

They need lots of exercise and mental stimulation, such as toys, games, tasks to do, and possibly even things like puzzle feeders. High energy dogs that get bored can get destructive.

I also hear that huskies are notoriously good escape artists, especially if you leave them in a yard.

I'm not sure how you wash him, I would go to google for that. However, you dog has a double coat. An outer "guard layer" of fur, and then an inner layer for insulation called the "undercoat". This inner layer will shed, and it will shed a fuckton twice a year. This is called "blowing the coat", and you will need to groom more during this time. There will be a LOT of fur when this happens, so it's good to get a comb specifically for undercoats to help get rid of the loose hair.

In general, do not give human food. However you can supplement the diet with some things. Eggs, carrots, meat, and animal organs are all good for dogs.

Definitely train the dog. Start with basic commands and then move on to more complex stuff. Training should be in short segments, and made into a game. You want the training to be fun for the dog, because then they will want to do it. Especially with intelligent dogs like huskies, if they don't want to do it, they'll be a lot more resistant and it will cause frustration for both you and him. Make it snappy, make it fun, positive reinforcement is best.

Show the dog what you want. teach the first step, then praise. Repeat until the dog has learned it. Then teach the next step. Positive reinforcement is best. If the dog does something you want, praise. If the dog misbehaves, show the dog what to do, then praise that behavior. Redirect instead of punish. If redirection doesn't work, then escalate to a scold for bad behavior, followed by redirection and praise. Punishment should only be a last resort, because not only is it less effective, it damages your relationship with the dog and it will be less cooperative in the future.

Once you've taught basic commands, then I highly recommend you move on to more stuff, because dogs like huskies like to have a job to do.

That's a shame. Oh well, rules are rules.

So i recently posted on /adv/ that I found a kitten from a dumpster. Well, I took it to vet and she said that it's a pretty healthy bastard, but I still have a problem with giving it to someone. Somehow I convinced my parents to let it stay in the home until somebody can take care of it, but now I have a lot of problems with caring it. Most of the sites I read says that kittens younger than 4 weeks tend to die without their mother even if raised properly and with a great attention, and not only I afraid that I'lll fuck up in something I'm also a poorfag and can't buy those special "mother milk replacers", and now I know that giving a cow milk is unhealthy. Vet said that a regular pasteurized fat-less milk is ok but I'm kinda aware of giving it, since it can cause diarrhea which is the deadliest.
Also it says that kittens must eat every three hours and now he's asleep...should I wake him up? Even at late nights? And how I wash him?
I'll buy a sand litter tomorrow morning but that's like the best I can do. Although vet said its a healthy kitten, I feel like it will die on my hands ( I'm completely lost, I mean I never even touched an animal for more than 5 minutes... help please, is there anything I really can do?

don't adopt dumpster kittens unless you want diseases

Plenty of guides online for raising kittens I'm sure. You can feed more in one go than a mother cat could afford to and perhaps quickly get it onto drinking out of a dish/bowl. I think the hardest part is that you need to stimulate them into defecating by brushing their butt every so often but if it seems to be managing that on its own then you're okay. It will need relatively frequent feeding but if you keep it in your room you can just wake up at 3am for a few minutes to give it a small meal and then go back to sleep, probably wouldn't be too difficult a routine to get into. Other than that its just a matter of making sure it doesn't get underweight and has sufficient nutrition while excreting waste as it should on a regular basis. You don't really need to keep it clean so long as its environment is reasonably sterile and it doesn't have any matted clumps of hair or w/e.

Cats are hardy, if the kitten is healthy and you keep it well fed and defecating then I reckon it'll be alright. Weaning normally begins at ~4 weeks so you can start introducing mushed up kitten food into its diet now/soon and once its eating that you're doing great.

Yeah I heard that, though I watch over my hygiene pretty strictly and the vet said it's totally healthy. I would wash it but I don't know how.
