I'm going to be running a game for my local group, set in a fantasy version of Colonial America. I was hoping that some history buffs could provide some information to me about the British army (Redcoats) in particular what sort of kit they would be issued, what sort of training they had, and what sort of danger they might pose as law enforcement to a party. We're using your standard 3.5 rules.

If you're going to be running fantasy Colonial America, then please for the love of god switch over to Pathfinder and make sure you use the "Guns Commonplace" rules. Pathfinder is newer, better updated, and basically 3.75.
You're shooting yourself in the foot if you don't do it.
Everything ever released for pathfinder can be found here:

I didn't realize that people were so picky. We're perfectly familiar with Pathfinder.
Anyone here tried this?
>>53663950
Yes
>>53663950
Well what do you wanna know senpai, your question isn't very fleshed out
>>53664675
Never change /tg/
>>53664772
So what was your experience like?
Do you recommend it?
What did you like or didn't like about it?
>first ever Dnd session
>doing a merc job for some guy, whole party is fucking around in a bar while we wait for him to show up
>some traveling merchant comes in
>one guy (playing as an idiot goliath) walks up to the guy and end up buying the "Greatest Axe"
>both me and the wizard in our party are very suspicious of this guy, and both try to figure out what was wrong with it
>the only thing we find out was that it was "very shiny"
>goliath says fuck it and goes to test it out on a tree outside
>asks GM if it's illegal to cut down property here
>GM says yes
>"fuck it, I'm doing it anyway"
>walks outside, while the wizard and I are very nervous
>Goliath takes a nice big swing and cuts a tree right in half
>it lights on fire and starts falling towards the bar
>wizard runs out and casts douse to put out the fire
>tree is still going to fall on the bar
>I, being a complete genius, decide to run up and uppercut the tree in half so it falls somewhere else
>I roll a 3
>Tree falls on top of me instead
>the owner of the bar, hearing the commotion, runs out and starts screaming at us
>apparently the tree was sacred or some shit
>Wizard notices someone in the distance
>It's the fucking guy who was hiring us
>He sees what's going on and starts running towards the bar
>he's yelling at us too
>"why the fuck did I hire you idiots
>we get really far in debt because of the damage done to the tree
>fuck up the entire campaign before it even started
>>53661309
Hey, man... You tried
Also, that sounds really fun
Think on the bright side, repaying that debt is pretty much a campaign seed in itself!
That's great actually , now you've all got a shared bond toward that tavern so you can send all you spare money toward building it back up. GM must love you guys for all the sweet material you're giving him.

How would you change the color pie for the better?

I got 1.99 after buying Steelshaper's Gift. What do I get for a Boros deck that's 2 bucks or less?

Mystery box???
Reposting from last thread.
The update is here!
>Super Threats added!
>Power costs rebalance!
>More modifiers!
>More allies and adversaries!
>More sidekicks!
>More base options!
>More of everything!
Would you be able to achieve infinite power by having a skeleton crank a generator forever?
Yes. That's why necromancy is illegal, anon. The 1%ers don't want any old academy student having access to an infinite supply of labor.
>>53658836
No. Because the skeleton, crank, and generator will eventually erode, snap, and rust.
>>53659019
What if you use the power to summon new skeletons, who build new cranks and generators?
Working on a system, weapons can be enchanted. Uses d6's for damage. Light weapons deal 1d6, medium 2d6 and heavy 3d6. Lighter weapons are easier to wield than heavier.
What I am unsure is if a dagger (1d6) is enchanted to produce fire, if I add an extra 1d6 damage, it is as good as a bastard sword, 2d6. Aside adding some different damage types - (I don't want to track too many unique ones) - is it acceptable to have an enchanted dagger deal the same damage as a mundane, but heavier, weapon?
>>53658366
Relying on only one dice type is pretty lame. Using others allows for more variable damages and weapon that deals 2d6 will be different than a weapon that deals 1d12 even though they have the same max dmg. Then you can use 1d4 for a mild fire enchantment.
>>53658366
Seems you're going for maximum simplicity system. May be issues down the road but otherwise - okay. Depends how many things will be narrative-based and how many depend on mechanics.
>is it acceptable to have an enchanted dagger deal the same damage as a mundane, but heavier, weapon?
Sure. Going by the theme of simplicity - what's the point of enchanting a weapon? To make it better, as in - do more damage than it normally would.
Also, you can always go with simple formulas. For example an enchant which is not very powerful or reliable - deals 1d6-2 additional damage so at 2 or less it won't do anything.
>>53658457
I mean, I can add 1d6 / 2, same dice, different result. Or 1d6x2, so the armour damage reduction (if applicable) is removed twice.
>Play a shy, quiet stealth expert, easily browbeaten and just going along with whatever else does
>Constantly forced to break character and take charge because all other players are easily distracted, clueless and without direction, or often miss sessions entirely
Really sucks because I love the archetype. But never again.
>>53657080
Have you considered getting a new group?
>>53657080
Sounds like you're having a case of character development.
>>53657270
This.
One of my improv teachers watched me do scenes where something funny would happen, and I just couldn't keep a straight face and I'd bust out laughing in the middle of a scene. After the scene was over he asked me what I did wrong. I said that I couldn't keep a straight face and it killed the joke because someone I didn't stay in character.
He told me that laughing wasn't what I did wrong, but not using the laughter to inform myself about who my character is. Everything a character does tells a story, and letting a character evolve truthfully through honest action will always be more interesting than following some arbitrary goal or throughline that you had in mind at the beginning of the story.
Follow Actions, not Themes. Themes come about through actions.

This too though
Why are the Arabian Nights settings so fucking underrated?
The atmosphere of fairytale and mystery they invoke is perfect for running an adventure in my opinion.

Fear of beheading mostly

Get outta here /pol/.
>>53656176
>Why are the Arabian Nights settings so fucking underrated?
They aren't?
I mean, D&D had a fantasy Arabia setting in AD&D (Al-Qadim), Lot5R had that Burning Sands expansion... pretty sure I could think of lots more if I cared to.
Are there any professional wrestling RPGs? Are any of them any good?
>>53656163
World Wide Wrestling is pretty dope. Turns out pbta works well with all the different roles/gimmicks wrestlers tend to have.
But anon, proffesional wrestling is already a LARP.
>>53656288
>>53656163
here's the PDF if you want to give it a try
How about a halfling monk who runs around nut-punching people?
Or an old grizzled bard who specializes in improvised weapons and fights like a murder hobo by shanking people with sharpened barstool legs?
What about a wizard who delves a little too deeply into the theory of why magic works and begins to suspect that he's trapped in an imaginary world?
Or a rogue that's an old-timey flim-flam man who spends his spare time as a snake-oil salesman?
Or a lawful-good paladin who has a stuffed animal that he carries around and during interrogations he likes to play "good cop, Teddy cop" as an excuse to beat the piss out of wrongdoers?
The wizard should suspect that he's trapped in an imaginary world run by simpletons because skills, unlike regular knowledge, are not learned gradually, but rather in sudden "jumps"
Does anyone else find people who make characters like this super annoying?
Like seriously, why can't you jack-holes just play the damn game without acting all "lel random!"?

Unfortunately it's a bit harder to samefag these days.
I really got the urge to run a Pokemon campaign, but I haven't used PTU before. Looking through it though, it seems solid. Anyone have any experience running the system? How is it?
As a side note, if it does run pretty smoothly, I'd be looking for a couple of people that have a lot of free time this summer to play
>>53655744
It's basically just using Savage Worlds to do Pokemon. It's not... extremely horrible, but it uses an rpg designed for playing 1 character per player and tries to make it down a team of Pokemon and a trainer. Really, the best way to use it is probably to run a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon style campaign, and put a limit on how much dice can explode based on the player's relative level of power.
>>53655744
I spent the better part of 3 years wrangling this beast, and I can tell you three things:
1- It's popular. You won't be hurting for players that's for sure.
2- It's not that good. Forces you to check giant lists of moves every session. Relies on online tools. It generally isn't very open to character concepts, and has a lot of imbalance when it comes to narrative power given by classes
3- If you try to run pokemon on any other system, you'll get no players and any players you get will ask why you're not using PTU, because it has gathered quite the cavalcade of fanatics
Sorry if this seems like I don't like it because it's popular, but I've actually run it for a very long time and I'm just pissed I can't manage to run MaOCT Pokemon without digging deep into the autism mines for players
>>53655883
PTU is not savage worlds and it doesn't have exploding dice?
> Apart from trace amounts of gold and silver, there are no metals in the setting.
Everyone dabs to communicate

Why is steampunk such an easy genre to fuck up?Also steam punk general I guess
Most people forget the punk part.
Because dipshits without an ounce of STEM savvy or intelligent imagination think brass, cogs and British is how you fabricate an entire setting around alternative technology.
I was at a con once though, and a booth babe in the same tastless garb slipped a steampunk gala pass into my back pocket, giving me a parting pinch and giggling.
Good times.
>>53655242
>Because dipshits without an ounce of STEM savvy or intelligent imagination think brass, cogs and British is how you fabricate an entire setting around alternative technology.
Pretty much this.
Most people just use Steampunk as an aesthetic. The only story I can think of that actually makes a point about it as part of the world is Girl Genius.
Probably one of the few things that setting does right: the technology is all weird and coggy because the power players are all fucking bugnuts insane, they just also happen to be mechanical geniuses. There's no logical progression to their inventions because it's as much random inspiration as it is actual intelligence on their part (and a very loose hand with physics). There's also a staggered, uneven technological progress because technologies are lost and rediscovered at random since none of the geniuses like to talk to each other, or they destroy their notes as soon as an usurper is around the corner, which explains why not everyone is living in mechanical luxury since tech keeps being discovered, lost, reinvented, destroyed, and then found again.
Thos is my first time building a 5 color EDH deck and I was looking for any suggestions on what to add and what to cut.
Thanks, /tg/.
