It's known that most TTRPG systems work for specific settings and subjects better than others, and a big problem I have with 5E is that people try to shoe horn it when it makes no sense, however it also raises an interesting question, what would be the optimal setting and subject for 5E?
A few things I've come up with about the setting
>Bards, Clerics, Druids, Sorcers, Warlocks, and Wizards all have supernatural powers which are distinct
>At the very least all the races in the core rule book exist
>Combat is frequent enough in the world to justify using 5E
>>53684427
Man, if only they like, wrote modules and guides on a setting where most all of their stuff fits?????
>>53684427
>what would be the optimal setting and subject for 5E?
gonzo fantasy where literally nothing makes sense. which leads us incidentally to >>53685580

>optimal setting
Depends on the Campaign you want to run. You can fit each class into a strictly Norse flavor setting. You can also fit each class into a strictly Arabian setting. Thats one of the best things about D&D having winnowed itself down over five editions - the classes are broad and flexible enough to work anywhere.
But the answer to your question? Certainly not fucking Forgotten Realms (>>53685580) because that setting has been done to death and theres no places for characters to do anything.
My answer?Golarion (Pathfinder)
>optimal subject
Adventure and Fortune, to win the hand of a bakers daughter, to live up to the legend of the Knight of Burgundymoor, to reclaim a lost nobility, to discover that which has been forgotten, and carve the name of your lost friend onto the very heart of the god of death.
Tell me /tg/, what are some of the benefits of feudalism?
I'm designing a nation where there is a powerful political bloc of both former lords and peasantry who want to return to the old ways, because the new system of corporations is actually more oppressive than feudalism. I need some good arguments for them so that they don't seem retarded. So what re the upsides of feudalism?
bumping, i'm interested

Feudalism at least guarantees you a job and a roof over your head.
A feudal lord has a social expectation and personal financial interest in keeping his serfs alive and reasonably healthy, because they are tied to his land and are what he relies on to maintain his wealth/power. Labor isn't mobile, so the serfs you have now are the serfs you'll always have. If they die, you're fucked.
A corporation (particularly in the 19th century model where there aren't really any fair labor practices laws) can abuse its workers as much as it wants. Who cares if they have to work two jobs to afford food? Who cares if they're worked to death in dangerous factories? Mobility of labor means you can just hire more poor people to take their place.

What's up /tg/? Can you recommend some games that can be played solo? Preferably with a fantasy/sci-fi/horror/or post-apoc theme.
Bonus mode: something hex and counter
Hard mode: hex and counter and still in print

They already died what are you talking about?
With the upcoming WoW remake, I can't help but recall the absolute clown suits I'd get with my mismatched gear.
Jumpers!
Describe your impractical and/or silly clothes and armor!
Pic unrelated. Dogs are just cool.
I am 32 and have never been able to enjoy fantasy settings and barely any sci-fi but I like the idea of RPG systems and storytelling set in the near future / recent past.
Is there anything out there for me? Maybe a social disorder setting but not full on Fallout.
Goblins, elves and magic put me in a coma. I wish I could enjoy that as there is so much content along those lines, but my imagination is allergic to it.
Hopefully you can help me out and I can get reading and playing something I can enjoy.

>>53681404
Your question is pretty broad. Are you looking for a setting with nothing supernatural what so ever? When you say near future how near do you mean, when you mean recent past how recent are we talking here?
Do you want any supernatural at all? There's a lot of horror or urban fantasy in modern or recent historical settings, if you can stomach that.
Which version of tri-stat do you recommend me to use?
I am looking to run a game like final fantasy/jrpg style

>Dark Heresy game
>bog-standard hive investigation
>characters refer to one another as their class
>get treated like shit for playing a scum despite having background package that makes me a local enforcer
>investigation starts
>it's just getting in a room and rolling Search
>our grand display of chancery nets us the results of "someone got hurt sometime this week"
>Daemonhunter shares his backstory during the piss break
>"Kaldor Draigo adopted me after my planet got exploded by Daemons and one tried to kidnap me"
And yet I stayed for a second session.
>>53681256
>Trail of Cthulhu game
>no attempt to actually bring the group together organically, literally " a guy tries to hire you all in a bar" like he just switched settings from a DnD game
>Hired to investigate the "Temple of Goatse"
>It is exactly as bad as it sounds on the tin
>Cultists are literally summoning things by pulling their asses wide open and the monsters falling out.
>Not sure why I stayed for 3 sessions.

>Kaldor Draigo adopted me after my planet got exploded by Daemons and one tried to kidnap me

That's nothing! In my character's backstory I lived in a house built by Rogal Dorn that he made for my family after our old one got molested by Slaaneshi Daemon-Orks.

Would most non GW stores allow proxy models for stuff like this? I don't quite need a basilisk/medusa, just the cannon for R&H.

How tall are Custodes next to the Chads? I saw pic-related but (from the base thickness) it looks like this may just be dishonest memery.
I'm going to be first time dming a 5.0 game in a few weeks and the themes a friend of mine and I devised are suicide and fairies.
Disregarding suicide, I can figure that part out, can you fellas give me inspiration on fae? Interesting stories, artwork, and ways to cleverly include them in my campaign. It's one facet of mythology I don't really know piss about
>>53680557
The fae are actually the Grigori and spawn of Qayin who fled to Elphame to escape the wrath of God after the whole knowledge debacle on the mountain, warped and twisted in the mists.
>>53680693
I did some reading on their origins and I'm not really a fan of integrating Judeo-christian mythology into it. In my cobbled together setting there's also nothing resembling Cain or Yahweh.
I like the idea of them being "hidden" people more, I was thinking of making a lot of their technology stone and hide amongst the hills and trees and use magical trickery. Smaller and stature, masters of camouflage. I prefer them to be a patrons of individual locations like nymphs and the like.
>>53680557
faeries, you say?
Me and a few Friends are working on an RPG based on Mad Max and Borderlands(for personal use but if you want a copy just hmu), i mostly focuses on customizing vehicles and combating them, but has sci-fi elements, im looking for input and ideas for the game and i thought you guys would enjoy that. so whatcha got /TG/
>>53680094
Leveling up should be based on what car parts you get, and should function similar to Shadowrun's karma system. It gives players a good reason to split loot amongst each other, and can be used as a carrot in a pinch.
Gasoline mechanics (how much certain cars burn, how accessible gas is) should be thought out, but left to the DM's discretion.Needs Buford T. Justice as a recurring character.
>>53680234
i agree with the fuel, but leveling will be done through buying these "Disks" that give you skills, after 5 you level up

If you where to build a slave race how would you go about it?

Fuck off Monsanto, do your own fucking R&D work.
>>53679367
I'd call em' goyim that' fo shizzle goy.
>>53679367
I'd build robots, because the idea of a slave race is stupid. To make them "naturally enslaved" you'd need to make them mentally deficient, and once you did that they wouldn't be fit for anything but manual labor (negating the economic argument) and you probably wouldn't even want to fuck them anymore (negating the hentai argument).
