>The Curio Shop
Too cute. I just hope the shopkeeper is okay.

I've got a player who is a pretty generic wizard (old, bookish, loves knowledge) and I'm trying to come up with an interesting and memorable magic item for him. I'd like to give him something that gives him some chance to role-play and not just an extra spell slot or something. I was thinking something research or alchemy related. Any ideas?

Give him a pointy hat that talks.
>>
Give him a cresset that does special things when you burn books in it.
>>
>>54212362
If he likes what he plays, then all is well. If it is a crutch, then you might introduce an item that turns the character in a new direction.
>Pointy hat that talks about overthrowing the evil king of badland, of which the cursed prince-hat is the rightful heir
>Pointy hat from hell which promises forbidden knowledge at seemingly little cost

Last time, on DG1: A Female Knight was possessed by a Champion Archetype, becoming bigger, faster, gaining like eight cup sizes, and a bit of a meathead brain. After transforming the battle from a bubbling caldera into aerial platform, our heroes had, uh, paused. Because it was late and people needed sleep.

>Atolm and Astarte each deal light damage to the Champion, sealing off her AoOs (though not counters or legendary-reactions). Celisse claws a little into her as well.
>Meanwhile, Freyda holds and readies her actions. Blakely is on his way down and needs a significantly softer fall than his current acceleration and heading would suggest. Living to be brought to justice and all that.
>Moments later, Lameeka uses her Ulama Strike against the Champion
>LEGENDARY REACTION! The Champion counters with a Keijo of her own, and a fatty thunderclap resounds across the skies as cheek and cheek collide!
>The recoil is significant, yet Lameeka's experience and sneak damage edge out; her rear will be marginally less red and sore than a woman twice her size!
>As she slumps down in disarrears, The Champion is caught by Zev, who uses her maidely knowledge to pin her arms behind her back until she cries...
>Uncle. She actually cried uncle. Several remarks may have been made.
>Freyda slowly decelerates and telekinetically captures Blakely, whom at this point is feeling dead inside. The combat ends as the other side is screaming relative.

>Cont

>It is exposition time. Having lost, The Champion and The Knave are willing to answer some questions. It doesn't help that her own stupid actions nearly killed their own hosts.
>The dragons are annoyed at being referred to as deuteragonists. Some philosophical waxing and waning is had on the subject of being the center of a story. The archetypes explain a little of their origins; such as The Champion being a story by Kronk, who first wrote a tale of a really strong man who wrestled a mammoth for three days and nights before killing it with a rock.
>There's also The Knight, that came thousands of years ago, and may have some records available for the dragons to discover from sometime before a guy named Aroden.
>Guesses are had as to what other archetypes must be. The Dickass Thief? The Slut? The Old Man In The Cave That Gives Advice?
>Atolm assures he can take on The Slut one on one; he's read books so he totally knows what he's supposed to do he says
>Under all this may be a universal force of narrative. But, that's not the summoner now is it.
>The Knave points out some other roles however. Ones not summoned directly to possess, but possibly held by the dragons, in a way. The Witch, The Knight, The Fool, The Maiden, The Wise Man, and The Lover.
>Atolm doesn't get it, and Astarte is assured that the terms are gender neutral
>The possessed knight does not know who summoned them, only that a gaunt bald guy with a jeweled eyepatch and a gnarly cane summoned The Knave, and told them where to find treasure.

>We had thought we were alone amongst the stars of our galaxy, that we were just unlucky within our own system, and that there was more out there. There -had- to be more, that was what we thought as we sent out signals into the vast unknown, hoping to find something, anything.
>We found something alright, something beyond our expectations
>It was large, larger than anything we could have possibly hoped for, larger than we ever could have imagined. It was simply beyond belief.
>We reached out across the cosmos, searching desperately for something else, and we had found It. It saw us, and It was coming for us.
>People rejoiced at this, some seeming happy, but others did not share this joy. Those who had found the thing knew what was coming, they saw the signs. The stars going out, constellations vanishing, the sky going darker with each passing year.
>The united governments at the time decided to act as soon as the first few stars started to fade out, bringing together their resources and technologies in order to prepare for our immediate evacuation.
>With their combined forces, they managed to strip our Solar System of most of it's resources, all in order to build up a vessel to evacuate the entirety of the population before the end came
>By the end of this great work, the sky was almost completely dark, all of the stars long since gone. The time had come
>People were ushered into the great titan of machinery cogwork just as a great shadow descended over the entire planet. It was here.
>Even now, nobody can truly say what the thing was, just that it was too large, and that it should not be.
>Our home destroyed we drifted off into the vastness of the cosmos, ever fleeing from a foe that cannot be stopped, a foe that cannot be sated. Now we can only hope

All right, /tg/, after watching the Azure Strike Gunvolt 2 speedrun on SGDQ earlier this week, I'm curious to see how one would go about trying to work the concept of Adepts into their game.

So, to make a long anime story short, the Lifewave is the connecting factor between all things, similar to the Lifestream in FF7. For the longest time, it was believed that there were 6 stages of the Lifewave existed, and each living person and animal was attached to one of these stages as they were born. Stages 4 and higher were more powerful stages, where those attached to them were supernatural mystics and psychics.

Adepts came about as scientists discovered the 7th, Septimal stage of the Lifewave, and can control and generate incredible energy, referred to as their Septimal powers. Obviously, considering it's coming from a fairly weeb-y series, there's the obvious elemental users, with the main character controlling lightning. There's also more abstract Adepts, controlling space (and portals), mirrors, and iron among others.

The biggest thing is that while most Adepts are born and develop these powers naturally around age 10 or so, there are ways to artificially induce Septimal powers in people who would otherwise be normal humans. Seriously, kind of a big spoiler ahead Gunvolt, the main character, is one of these.

This definitely feels like more of a "five minutes into the future" kind of modern fantasy, if not another brand of magic in a sci-fi setting, but I still find it kinda neat in it's own way.

While I liked the game, the explanation behind the power was pretty nonsense. Even so, we had something similar in an old campaign I played in. An alien goddess arrived and "turned on" magic for the world and suddenly everyone could do magic, but a tiny percentage of the population could do so much more with it and were basically elementals.

http://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2017/03/harvard-scientists-pinpoint-critical-step-in-dna-repair-cellular-aging/

So human trials have started on a protein that apparently stops cells from aging (as well as giving a tremendous increase to the cells' ability to shrug off damage from radiation). It might even be able to reverse aging and return the imbibers to a state of peak physical development.

How do you think the advent of cheap anti-aging treatment will affect our world? In games like Traveller, anti-aging drugs are prohibitively expensive, but these tests just mixed the protein into the drinking water of rats to get the results, and the ability to make a protein is getting cheaper every day. Even GURPS Transhuman Space has this caste of super-duper-ultra rich people that have lived more than 150 years and accumulated so much wealth that people born in the present can't hope to catch up, but in the real world we might have huge swaths of the planet ceasing to age in the next couple decades because they can afford a $100 molecule fabricator.

the rich will live forever while the poor will have to constantly spend resources to raise and educate their children before they die of old age

If it could somehow be affordable and available to a huge number of people the impact would be different. Things like environmental issues would bother people more when they might actually live to experience the impact of their actions today.
>>
>>54211992
I think its unlikely that the rich will try to turn it into an exclusive thing because that would cause some serious actual class wars. The population will continue to ride while the deathrate will plummet, giving us a reason to finally go colonize and terraform other planets in our system for lack of room.
>>
>>54212419
>The population will continue to ride while the deathrate will plummet
I doubt it. We will just have other health problems (heart disease, cancer, alzheimer's, various degenerative diseases, etc)

Closest I can think of is the Soul Drinkers.

They never turned to Chaos, but they were mutated almost beyond recognition, went renegade and were declared Excommunicate Traitoris, but they always worshipped the Emperor, and they were trying to act in the interests of the Emperor and not the Imperium (hence the excommunication).

Dungeoneer - a compact, portable dungeon crawler with 7 expansions. Mix-and-matchable, customizable, solo module - why doesn't this get more love? It's quick, it's easy to play once you parse the turn order, and it's cheap. The warp/shift effects can break the game, but that's an easy fix. Anyone else a fan?

What are the limits to a technomancer's abilities?
If he can only manipulate technology, that means he can manipulate many things; spears are technically technology.
If he can only manipulate machines, then wouldn't he be able to manipulate simpler ones, such as the levers on a catapult or the hinges of a door? What of locks?
If he can only manipulate electrical technology, then why not just use an electromancer?
I desire your opinion /tg/.
