Hello TG, I've been working the last few weeks on my RPG, milestones, and so on. I am close to completing my first MVP and i would appreciate some help.

First off, the entire system uses a deck of playing cards.

Second off, My current combat system involves basically playing a game of blackjack. The opposition has a armor value which is two cards added together that are place infront of them, and the attack the attacker draws two cards and adds them together.

Now here's a few questions I can't make up my mind about.

One, do face cards/ace count as ten or as 11,12... so on?

Two, Defender wins ties or attacker wins ties?

Three, How much Health should a player have?

Four, how do I scale with levels?

Five, Finally do you guys have any additional ideas?

face cards are face cards, they are 10

defender wins ties, if the attacker attacks and doesn't win, obviously he lost. if the defender defends and doesn't die, he obviously wins

have you tried playing the game? get a friend and try it with varying hp pools and see what works and what is monotonous

you could remove a card or two from the deck

I don't know enough about your game to answer anything else

play with it until something feels right
remove low power cards from the deck

after all 2 cards are removed from your deck, you will always hit for at last 6 which is two points higher than 4

or just add a die

Basically, if Horus had killed the Emperor, then he would have been stricken with grief within a few generations, and wiped out the rest of Humanity, also dealing the deathblow to Chaos.
So what I meant was:
Alternate timeline 40k where both Humanity and Chaos ceased to exist sometime in M31-M32.

I'm trying not to shove this sort of thing down my player's throats, so lets say that there was this character that a player could either kill cruelly or kill painlessly. How would I go about that feeling of empathy slowly building on them as the plot progresses so they realize that they have the option to do that while still being in character, without being outright blatant or outright telling them that their empathy is building?
Keep in mind this is still furons, they'll still be killing people regardless because they need the DNA, they can just decide how they go about collecting that DNA. Either doing it like how the ending of DAH 1 did it, by collecting it from basically everyone like a farm or alternatively collecting it from people on their death beds in hospitals, ect. Keep in mind this is a rough concept right now, I'm just asking for narrative advice on how to make this feel more natural.

Almost all of whether this succeeds or fails will rest on how you sell it to your players. Once the murder-hobo mentality is established it's going to be awfully difficult to get them out of it.

Slowly make them seem more human as time goes by, having them mourn over lost comrades, plead beg and cry in earnest when faced with the barrel of a death ray, and have motivations that the PCs could get behind if they weren't serving the Furon empire.

Don't force or try to convince PCs to act a certain way, adapt your descriptions and portrayals of human characters instead.

I reeeally, reeeeally want to play Space Marines that are "pragmatic" and objectively the "good guys." But the Raptors are kind of drab and the Knights Inductor are reeeeee- inducing levels of cancer.

I have a few ideas for the chapter.

>Hypno-indoctrination is flawed, so field lots of Scouts, and allow Serfs to volunteer for combat duty- full battle-brothers often have a sardonic but upbeat personality
>Time in Scouts is used to gauge each newbie's aptitudes, afterwards they are either sent to Assaults, Tacticals, or Devastators- after short probationary period they then become Sternguard, Vanguard, or are entrusted with a Devastator heavy weapon
>Buddies with Raven Guard, who helped them train them in the use of stealth, and with Salamanders for helping them with reestablishing gear stockpile
>They think they're either Salamander or Raven Guard successors, or maybe even a lost primarch!
>Spoiler: They're actually full Ultramarine
>Rivalries: Marines Malevolent (they tried to Minotaur the Reasonables, only for the Reasonables to Minotaur them back), Iron Hands (misunderstanding about mishandling of refugees, the Reasonables later apologized)

The official Supernatural Handbook for Mutants and Masterminds 3e has Dracula at Power Level 14. I'm sure there isn't any overt explanation needed for that to be a challenge for players, just make sure you get mileage out of minions.

I did. He refuses to give up but you can tell he's absolutely run out of steam. He's just being pure stubborn and refuses to see the writing on the wall.

Is Tabletop Simulator any good for online TTRPGs? Does anyone on /tg/ use it for their games? I've got money to burn but I don't want to waste it on a meme game.

For TTRPG's, unless the miniatures and 3d dice is a real pull, I'd say no. It's a lot of extra fuss for not that much tangible benefit, so I'd stick with online tabletops like roll20 or pure text clients like IRC.

That being said, tabletop simulator is fucking amazing for board games. Simpler games work best, but you can play almost anything in it, and it works really damn well. It's the best experience you can get if you can't meet up with friends around a real table. I use it to play board games with friends all over the world, using voice chat and such, and it's amazingly good fun.

Ran into the argument that the Xenos 2 codex says you set up Crisis suits in a Manta Hold, and therefore Drones deploy there since the Suits "Set up", and cannot deepstrike so they stay there, off board forever. What does /tg/ think?

A manta strike is not a deep strike. Stop thinking it is.

When you manta strike your suits, with drones, you do 'set up' those suits on the battlefield, therefore drones 'set up' with the battlesuits.

I mispoke when I said deepstrike. I merely meant that TECHNICALLY it states they are set up in a Manta Hold, though my side of the argument says it is flavor text, not instructions. Other side argues that since it DOES say specifically Set Up that drones get deployed there, and do not have Manta Strike so they just do nothing. Mostly looking for confirmation of what I believed, since it wasn't mentioned in the Errata and I have seen little to none on forums.

Sup /tg/. Do you prefer creating your own maps and dungeon layouts, or using premade maps you've gotten from various sources?

I prefer the first, because the "level design" part of GMing is one of my favorite parts, but I guess there's no reason you can add features to an existing layout, and premade maps always look much better than my poor art abilities will allow.

Your thoughts?

(Also, is there any good site or torrent to get premade maps from? Maybe I just haven't seen the right kind of maps to understand their usefulness.)

I like taking a blank map and populating it myself.

Occasionally full modules are ok as a way to shake things up, but usually they're very poorly written, too linear, or only have a few good ideas worth stealing.

The OP map is pretty neat, but it seems like the top half is drawn intentionally to create series of separate encounters, rather than following an independent logic... who needs dozens of a identical square rooms that are only connected one to the next?
