As some of you are probably aware, Middle Earth's Buckland has a 20-mile hedgerow called the High Hay. It serves as a wall to keep Evil Forest Shit out of peaceful hobbit lands. Really makes me think.
How viable could a hedge actually be as a defensive wall? I'm thinking raised earthen walls topped with a mess of thick trees and brambles too dense to fit between, all fire-resistant green wood, perhaps a number of walls set in front of one another with thorn-filled ditches between.
Maybe a druid's citadel would have it.
How much evil shit could a hedge actually stop?
>>54428903
Normandy used to be full of hedges, some 3 or 4 meters thick. IIRC they worked relatively well.
Kind of a cheaper, civilian/paramilitary response instead of going all out with Hadrian's wall type fortification. It won't stop armies or spies, but it will keep out pursuing warbands or casual lurkers.
>>54428903
Depends on the hedge
Hedges featured a lot as an obstacle in the English civil war so they can , if thick enough, stop people/animals
The British army often fortified their bases with thorn bushes while on campaign in India and Africa, they could and did retard an attack and were difficult to remove if done properly.
So that hedge can probably stop giant wolves and the odd orc band but a determined party with good tools will get through even that hedge in about a day, a week at most if that hedge is really thick and they are idiots, especially if there is no opposition.
>>54428903
As other people have pointed out, it works a lot better for keeping out dangerous animals or the occasional small group of marauders.
With magical plants and a druid enclave backing them up though, you could do a lot better, especially since it won't be easy to just burn away.
What's the best system you have come across to fit your specific needs?hardmode: no gurps
Nothing so far, but that's because my needs are different for each campaign. I do like using West End Games' D6 system as my go-to for adapting most kinds of settings, but if I want something specific like open-ended dungeon crawling or post-apocalyptic science fantasy I'll gravitate towards the systems best for those.
>>54427392
4th edition. I understand it's not ideal for everything, but it's ideal for everything I run. I want my players to feel like the protagonists of the story while still giving them tension from depleting resources. I am okay with melee being a viable option, even in a modern/space setting. I enjoy when players refluff a class into something different but mechanically appropriate. I like having a backlog of balanced monsters that I can pull from whenever I need to that lets me craft an encounter in minutes. I like that combat is tactically deep and fun enough to be its own game. I like that there aren't many out of combat rules, and those are exist are easily ignorable, so that it's easier to actually ROLE PLAY.
4e is a DM's dream edition, and i don't see myelf chosing something else as my go-to any time soon.
Strike!
I just like that it's designed with what it wants to do in mind (and what it wants to do is appealing to me).
It's simple, modular, easy to brew for. The only thing I dislike is that the guidelines for the skill/trick system are kinda shoddy, and the book is poorly edited/sort of unprofessional in tone.

Requesting an example of a recast knight from Z.
How does the last Setting you played in view Murderhobos?
Are they seen as the Chosen Heroes?
Or dangerous mentally unstable people doing crazy shit for a meal ticket?
Or maybe is their existence akin to mercenaries where people regard them just as professionals doing their jobs?
How do they mingle with people who are not of the adventurer-profession?
Apart from that what is your favourite take on this topic?
One steamy book.
>>54426886
I almost exclusively play games where "adventurers" do not exist. If you are traveling from town to town and your job description is "will do anything that includes violence for money" then you're a mercenary, not an "adventurer."
Also, literal murderhobos should be either murdered or arrested and sent to work camps/penal battalions, unless you want the countryside to fill with corpses.
>>54426886
Most of them die young and pretty fast. Those who break the law either die being hunted down by soldiers or are hanged. Those who survive and do not break the laws hard enough are knighted, put into a proper knightly Order and get to work hunting monsters under Royal supervision.
Though that's just one of the countries. Their neighbours are more divided and mostly deal with murderhobos on case by case basis, with lords trying to snatch them for their retinues or just killing them.
There are some mercenary companies that take more or less anyone who is capable of following orders so murderhobos can join them.
Orcs are actually pretty hard on them. Even more than other races. After their religion gone through a reform exchanging sole Gruumsh for a Gruumsh / Kord / Heironeous pantheon they really came hard on all murderhobos and anyone who acts without a proper dispensation from above.
Overall the world is a pretty harsh place and surviving alone is very hard.

Yesterday an anon posted in the One Roll Engine General thread about the prospect of using Wild Talents to run an Overwatch game. I said that I'd stat up D.Va's kit using the system today, but the thread got archived before I could post.
Next post has the fruit of my labor. Pretty happy with the result.
Also, other One Roll Engine discussion, I guess.
Here's the result. There's a sidebar about using Hyperbody dice to create vehicles and attaching Miracles to them, which is what I did here. All of the non-Hyperskill miracles have Attached-2 on them, since they require that D.Va's mech be intact for their use. Were this a game entirely about mech combat I wouldn't even bother, but given that it's her gimmick I thought it would be a good way to represent what sets her apart from other characters.
I didn't stat up her Light Gun since that, by Overwatch standards, is just a regular weapon instead of a crazy mish-mash of armor. Speaking of which, I didn't give her mech actual Heavy Armor out of concern for balance. Her Defense Matrix already crushes any projectile attack coming her way, and her suit's wound boxes give her a significant amount of survivability, so I figured giving her heavy armor on-top of that would be overkill. Instead I stuck with a big wad of Light Armor.
I also didn't use the Focus flaw on any of these, since basically all Overwatch characters have Focus gear instead of inborn abilities, thus there's no point in applying a universal -1 pt flaw to every single ability a character might have.
>>54426262
Ah! I've been looking for the new /ore/ general in hopes to find this! I think my D.Va player will be pleased to see the results of your take on the Neon Pink Evangelion and Gremlin pilot combo.
>>54426538
Thanks!
I didn't worry about her Stats or Skills here because that has a large bearing on the kind of game you want to play, frankly. Wild Talents is quite comfortable with shoot-em-up style combat, but it also embraces a wider array of actions that I assume you'd want to explore within the scope of your game.
If you are planning to launch this game, what kind of stuff are you looking to do?
What's a good system that does Anime shit well? Over-the-top, party-focused shenanigans. I wanna do space shit with it too.
Any ideas /tg?

So the Doctor Who Roleplaying game is on Humble Bundle this month and I bought it really to just have a look. Anyway, I had an idea while flipping through one of the pdfs and it's a premise I think would be amazing if executed properly but I know I completely lack the patience and subtlety to do it properly so I'll just pass it on here and see if anyone would like to share how THEY would do this idea if running the doctor who game.
> make all of your players create time lord characters but with certain limitations that would allow the next line to come true
> the secret twist of the campaign is that despite the differences in their characters, all of them are incarnations of the same time lord
So yeah, I have no idea how I would justify them not knowing that, nor how I could adequately foreshadow and dripfeed the information to let them figure it out on their own organically or at the desired story climax. What would you do, /tg/?
I like Doctor Who as well. Is the Roleplaying game worth it? I'm scared it'll be just licensed shit.
Answering to your question, the best you could do is look for a justification in the show itself. Or maybe you could have them just inexplicably not remember their past incarnations, and then when they realize it they have to erase their memory and regenerate so the adventures they have had in the past won't change and time won't destroy itself, or something among those lines.
>>54424805
Here's a question about it though. How the hell do they not know? The future incarnations will remember the past ones. If you wipe their memories of an entire regeneration, you're resetting them all to basically the same mental state when they freshly regenerate, so wouldn't they all think they're on their same life and have just regenerated, meaning variation would be quite impossible?
>>54425094
Couldn't that be avoided with them starting the game midway through a certain regeneration with no knowledge of prior regenerations nor which regen they're up to but memories and experiences of the current form they're in being what shaped them to be different?

So now that black crusade is up for grabs again, who do you think should take it?
So would it be possible to effectively etch spells permanently into your mind/soul as a D&D wizard so you don't have to prepare them?
Hey guys! Just made a fresh Harbinger, standard, with heavy emphasis on cursed razor and riven hourglass.
I'm not seeing much space for synergy with combat feats other than the Claims and generic maneuver feats though. Any ideas?
Currently I have Improved Initiative and Sin Eater. Gonna get Grasp of Darkness eventually.
