Am I losing my mind or is there a wrong answer here?
There are probably three wrong answers.
>>9135429
what would be the answer to this question?
>>9135435
They give the equation right fucking there, how dumb are you?
Does /sci/ ever deal with imposter syndrome? Is it more prevalent in some disciplines than others?
Is it a syndrome if it's true?
>>9135403
Depends on if it's objectively true, which is hard to determine since if you have this syndrome you are in no state to determine the truth of it. That said, it puts us in an interesting position, as any syndrome could be made up such that if you believe or don't believe in something, you could have this syndrome when in reality you're in a perfectly normal, reasonably objective, state of mind.
tldr i don't know
i did during undergrad but it went away. it's nbd now that my ego isn't tied to success.
Once scientific advancements have eliminated the need for sleep, will the average man be expected to work 20+ hours per day?
At what point do we say "NO" to scientific research to preserve a dignified way of life?
>>9135361
You can't stop scientific progress. If we don't do it, someone else will, and then the communists win.
>>9135380
What did he mean by this?
>>9135396
He doesn't realize the communists already won, or what he's fighting against
Is card counting really this easy?
I had an assignment to create a card counter at FreeCodeCamp. It explained it to me, but having never played blackjack before, it was a little confusing for a moment. I finally made this little program, which passed FreeCodeCamp's tests. I tried to comment as best I could for people who don't know any programming. I barely do myself.
I thought card counting was something that was impossible for regular people, and that only abnormally fast minds could do it (like Rainman). But this program makes it seem very simple. Just addition or subtraction by 1 or 0 based off what the card dealer deals? I think I could do that.
I hope it's this simple because I turn 21 in September.
>>9135311
You have to have friends to count effectivelly.
>I turn 21 in September
and you're still on codecademy tier shit? I was at your level when I was 14, step up lad
>>9135311
Now try it with eight decks using only your own unassisted memory.
Why is our planet the only one in the solar system with life and diverse climates? Is life strictly limited to being carbon-based?
>>9135270
The presence of lots of water probably is influential in both cases.
Life obviously makes a lot of use of water here, and the differences in our extremes of temperatures is really accentuated by the fact that, on a world swimming in water, the range of temperatures encompasses both sides of the freezing/melting point.
>>9135282
But how did life even start when there was nothing? Where did the first micro-organisms come from?
Solar system? Try observable universe
>x/5 ∈ N
Is this a valid way to define multiples of 5?
>>9135257
No, it defines the positive multiples of 5. Assuming you only want that, a better way of writing it is x∈ 5N
Na boy x=0mod5
[math] 5\mathbb{N} [/math]

When will this meme die?
when it stops being more fun
>>9134966
they will still exist in 400 years. but they will become different, digital transformation, augmented reality, virtual reality, 3-D-digitalisation, free thinking, solidarity and concentration. also the humanities still produce lots of real books. it will still take hundreds of years until everything that is analog today has become digitally available. and after that, the libraries will become terminals for digital info.

This movie sucks and is dumb.
First, how fucked does one have to be to study entirely on his own, get a job as a janitor at Harvard, solve super difficult problems, and then be like this shit don't matter to me, because muh bad life, which I also don't care about btw. That's just dumb.
This is a romanticisation of being smart and poor and abused and merging that with smart but lazy for no reason other than to inspire a plot. In real life, when you grow up poor and abused and smart the only thing you want is to get out. Sure there may be some smart but lazy guys who like to rub it in intellectuals' faces that they're smarter even though they're poor but if they really were smart they wouldn't sequester themselves among low iq people just to remain comfortable. I'd love to not be the smartest guy in the room for once.
Life sucks. Bad things happen, people closest to you fuck you over, opportunities just pass by like a tease because you're just that broke. Everything takes time. You work 80 hours a week and save up and buy a car and It breaks down and you lose the better job you just got because you have no way of getting there. Your family and friends die and move away. And you just continue the grind. And it just takes time. And the other facets of you just die off. No fun times. All work. Poor kids get shitted on the moment they're born. Good luck trying to do extracurriculars and whatnot. No you're not allowed in honors classes you're poor lol. Good luck paying those application fees. Too bad your counselor won't give you any waivers. Good luck understanding the financial aid system and how it pertains to your specific situation.
And then someone says man you have so much potential I can't believe you didn't go to college you're like good will hunting lol
FUCK good will hunting. That shit is retarded
.t poor brainlet
wow, someone is assmad
>>9134959
OP sure has a point here.
however, he presents a most pessimistic pov.
some people are friends towards each other, even if they are poor and stupid. also those lower classy people in that movie are not poor. they can go out and party and get cars as gifts.

>people still study physics and maths instead of economics and finance
>>9134927
Oh no a retard
>>9134927
Economics and finance are trivial. If you can do physics and math you can do the other, easily.
>>9134937
Of course they aren't trivial. Economics and finance are extremely important.
But they are only important for those who have the capital. For any normal self-interested person wanting to maximize their chances of happiness is getting a university degree, getting a mortgage, working 40 hours a week with a regular paycheck, and putting money in the bank. Is all they need to know about finance+economics.
Very tiny population group can do the finance stuff and take ALL the risks and difficult work (and most of the rewards too). Meanwhile I'm planning on living in the future in my suburb house with my wife, 3 kids, a dog, wine, traveling, TV, sports, and all that normal stuff.
If we assume that the feeling of being you is just a configuration of the brain and there are countless universes with life in it.
Does that mean some kind of "rebirth" is inevitable?
>>9134787
There is only one universe. Also no. Nothing happens to us after we die.
Why don't the mods ban these threads? This doesn't belong here, go to >>>/x/
>>9134787
If we assume this is actually happening, then we can assume it could happen again.
There is no reason to think you would remember a previous life though, and the minds ability to create/distort memories makes truth irrelevant, you could never know.
Can anyone on this board recommend me some helpful books to prep for a prospective math major? I've always been an above average math student, but I've never been amazing. I'm too deluded, however, at this point, to even care. Any advice would also help.
Thanks
Of course

So everything came from first molecular life. From simple vells splitting. But for a cell to exist you need rna and protein, and the odda of both occuring on the same spot in order to duplicate its self all the odds are against it ? What am i missing here.
For a cell to exist, yes.
For self-replication, no.
