>too poor to buy a decent camera
I think the best way is to get a phone with a good enough camera, but which one?
I think that the most I can spend is 300 dollars, and I live in Argentina tech prices here are absurdly high.
What do you recomend me anons?

Just buy a decent second-hand camera. I'm sure you have a bunch of photo forums and such there. The other option is ebay.

Alright guys, it's time for my bi-annual(ish) thread. Since last time I've been doing a lot of portraits in model's apartments with colored lighting. It's nice because it doesn't require daylight so it mixes well with my 9-5 (esp now that it's dark at 4:30pm), and I still get to do some pretty nice stylized stuff. In general my photos are still a bit everywhere, one of my goals for next year is to shoot an actual series, potentially conceptual but who knows. Shooting pretty pictures of pretty girls is only so fulfilling.
Before anyone asks this is the gear I normally use for my lighting:
- Various colored lightbulbs.
- Neewer 160 LED CN-160 Video light
- Yongnuo YN360 LED Video Light
Gels
- Atmosphere Aerosol spray, for some fog on the go
Yes it's all cheap and non-professional, but it's highly portable, and that's a huge plus when you don't have dedicated studio space, and shoot on location a lot.
As always, comments and critique are welcome, and I'll try and stick around and answer questions as much as possible.

On the flipside, this was the biggest model I've worked with to date and I really dropped the ball on the shoot. Was expecting way more lights at the location we went to but it was almost pitch black and I only brought YN360. Didn't do anything interesting and was pretty bummed. Hopefully didn't fuck up my chances of working with her again in the future. It's all a learning experience though.

They said it would never happen, but this is going to be the shape of things to come. Mirrorless EVF Canon and soon Nikon. Too bad their new camera is the equivalent of last years hardware.
So Do you think that all the major brands will be sporting a mirrorless lineup come 2018 or are you going to see the old EF/A/F mounts hanging on for the foreseeable future?

You're a fucking moron. The EXIF days shows the OP image was taken with the D700. It's a photo of the new Canon camera. Does that help you understand the irony?
How do I meter for a look like this with film? Every time I try to shoot a film camera of mine indoors or at night I get very slow shutter speeds, unusable when handheld for the most part. I see the motion blur with the car but the whole photo is not shakey. Harry Gruyaert, who took pic related, was a street photographer and I'm assuming wasn't using a tripod for this shot. Also he used Kodachrome which had a speed of 64 which seems impossible to use in conditions like this. How did he do it and know how to meter for a shot like this

>i'm assuming he wasn't using a tripod
I'm assuming he was. But it's also possible that he braced his camera on something on his side of the street that you cannot see, such as a bench or trashcan. It's unlikely he shot this freehand because it's fucking difficult for anyone to do that below like 1/30

Nice place, where is it?
I've just bought a Nikon D750 body as an upgrade to my Old and outdated Sony Nex-5. I'm going to Iceland in Febuary and need some ideas for lenses to buy.
Need a lens with a wide angle and large aperture just incase the Aurora shows up Ideally I'd like to spend under ÂŁ600 for it.
Was thinking for a second lens such as the 24-70 Nikkor 2.8 for everything else. What do people think of this lens?? any other alternatives? do the Samyang/rokinon cheaper versions stand up to it?
>>2991320
Tamron 24-70 f2.8 VC is up there. Lighter, cheaper, just as sharp, VC is always a welcome change.
Make sure you check the auto focus is on poiny though
Are there lens' with a greater range. Maybe Tamron 18-270? Does this work with full frame?
Return itfor the 24-140mm f/4 kit

A good way is to know your hashtags. It's a bad idea to just spam the biggest hashtags like #instagood #earthporn #etc. Your images will get pushed down so fast, nobody will get a chance to see them. The things you should be aiming for are:
1: getting to be one of the nine "top photos" for a certain hashtag. This will ensure that you will have a larger audience for your photos because your photo will be displayed for roughly a day or so on that hashtag. Im not 100% sure how instagrams algorithm works for determining the top photos but you definitely will not get to be a top photo on the big hashtags, so just dont waste your space (instagram will think it's spam if you hashtag too much) so pick wisely. It's a good idea to monitor the hashtags you post to see which ones you're capable of getting on. For example. I'm getting roughly 200-300 likes in the first 3 hours of my photo being up, and I can usually get to the top of hashtags that have been used 100,000-300,000 times. You should constantly monitor this to know which relevant hashtags to target. If the hashtag is too small, like only 2,000 uses, you're not getting an audience. And if you're using a hashtag that has 500 Million uses, there's no chance someone will see it. You need to be aware of that sweet spot for you, and try hitting that the best you can. However, don't avoid hashtags because of that, just think in terms of getting maximum viewing
2: Get your image shared. Obviously there are a lot of pages on instagram that share your images, and they will require you to follow their page before they will share it. So find the pages that your work fits in with and make sure to keep a note somewhere of these pages, so you won't forget about them when you're posting
3: Make a draft in your email of hashtags that will always apply to your images like #sonya7 #canonimages etc. then fill out the rest of your hashtags and email it to yourself. this will just save you time and effort in the long run.
This could be considered a request but can someone tell me how one would edit a photo to get this effect.
I found this photo on instagram and I am obsessed with whatever is on this because its so subtle. I don't think it is quite a vintage or lo fi effect but it is so sick. I downloaded Photoshop just for this.
If anyone could help me to figure out what is going on here and try to replicate that would be great.
Thanks very much.

Good morning, /p/
I'm feeling friendly today and also have some new stuff to share, so I'm going to do something most likely stupid and have an AMA with /p/.
Go ahead, ask me anything. I'll probably answer most stuff, but I'm not likely to give out personal details or exact financial information. I'm happy to give out advice on the business of landscapes and shooting them too. I'll actually be around my computer for most of the day today and probably again tomorrow. Let's see if you guys can make me regret my choice.
The point of this thread is to teach and inspire. If y'all get stupid I'll probably just leave and go do something more productive with my day.
I'll respond with photos, mostly new ones. Sorry if there's reposts I never remember where I last left off.
