Recently I've picked up reading again. As a kid, I used to read books with ease, and read constantly. Now, however, I find it incredibly difficult to focus on a book and I wind up reading only 4 pages in around 15 minutes or sometimes even 20. Am I retarded or am I out of practice?

Someone I always advise in threads like this is try not to go for something too "heady." I get it, you come on /lit/ and you see nothing but Pynchon, DFW and dense old Russian literature and you want to dive right in. But just like everything in life, you ultimately have to work your way up to those things.

Pick up an easy to read, mass market paperback, something that looks half way entertaining that you can breeze through. It's not about the book so to speak it's to get you used to the "mechanics" of reading.

So basically every great thinker has worked out one infinitely interesting and virtually irrefutable answer to the question, What's the meaning of life. Ordinary people understand their answers to that question better than they understand their own.

Is that basically it?

>Although appearing left wing my training is really Fascistic—not ”Fascistic” as Marxist rhetoric defines it but as Mussolini defined it: in terms of the deed & the will, with reality de-ontologized, reduced to mere stuff on which the will acts in terms of deed. Since few living people correctly understand (genuine) Fascism, my ideology has never been pejoratively stigmatized by the left, but those to whom I appeal are in essence the core-bulk of latent masses, the fascist mob. I speak of & for the irrational & the anti-rational, a kind of dynamic nihilism in which values are generated as mere tactics. Thus my real idol is Hitler, who starting out totally disenfranchised rose to total power while scorning wealth (aristocracy) plutocracy to the end. My real enemy is plutocracy; I’ve done my (Fascistic) homework.[…] My fascistic premise is: ”There is no truth. We make truth; what we (first) believe becomes objectively true. Objective truth depends on what we believe, not the other way around.” This is the essence of the Fascist epistemology, the perception of truth as ideology imposed on reality—mind over matter.

What should I read to learn more about fascist epistemology?

Basically what the title says. One of my good long-time friends, who was born a female and is a devout Catholic, has recently come out as male and has expressed a lot of hidden confusion and anxiety she/he has had secretly about this for many years. She is also disillusioned about the weakness of women (physically and mentally), and wants to distance her/himself from that as much as possible using hormonal therapy. So in the vein, I am trying to get her a fiction book that could maybe help her toward the Conservative side on this issue to help her out.

So, essentially, I am asking for recommendations on classic books that portray women dealing well with society's ingrained perceptions regarding the weaker sex, and possibly ones that tackles gender dysphoria in a productive manner. I am specifically not trying to get her some evangelical manual on why being gay/transgender/etc is wrong and sends you to hell, as I am not trying to brainwash her and her confusion is very real, but rather a positive story that would help her deal with it.

I indeed thought it was an interesting book and I plan on reading it again sometime. Yeah some of the stuff is weird and cliche, I even remember that scrawny hikinomimi (or whatever it's called) otaku guy finding a short katana (tanto?) or something like that, and it's just... dumb. The feral children thing is also incredibly stupid; people deciding to live like zombies even though they're technically alive? Then there's the whole 'fake cure' thing that gets a guy super duper rich even though it does nothing. Can't remember the Israel stuff, but the thing with the guys with the sub (Chinese) hooking up their ship's engines to some kind of archipelago community to give them power is pretty cool, then they chill there and are treated extremely well for providing power to them.

This is the most important part, though... it's this book that introduced me to the song 'I was Only 19' by, what was it, the Rumjacks? Anyways, absolutely Godly song, didn't even know Australia had a part in the Vietnam War, and for having introduced me to that song I will always be grateful to some degree of World War Z.

I also found the Zombie Survival Guide to be very entertaining in my early-mid teen years. I recall at the back of the book where it has historical fiction short stories of encounters with the undead, there's one scenario in Canada, specifically BC I think, where this one woman with an M1 Carbine ends up cornered but with slow and careful aim and no small amount of self-discipline, she dispatches... what... 13 of them with her 15-round mag? Something like that. Pretty cool read.
