Hi, /mu/ here, what are the best books on interpreting music, the history of music, and basic music theory?
Adorno the Terrible, "Gas All Jazzmen"

ask /classical/

I don't just want to focus on classical music
>>9620722
I haven't read it myself but my musician of a friend said he found Understanding Music: Philosophy and Interpretation by Rodger Scruton to be inspiring.

Scruton is the most boring kind of conservative you can think of, also he likes to pretend that music academia is some sort of Marxist crackpot, although most of it has been historically either traditionalist or individualist. He's the kind of guy who will always omit that Schoenberg was a monarchist.

>give money to Rodger "tonality, just like cigarettes, makes life inherently better" Scruton
go away. go read

>not really much of a point in dumping thousands of recs on someone
