How will /lit/ react when he dies?
>>9615276
we've all become catholic so we can get him canonized. it's fine.
>harold bloom ph.d blahblahblah yale blahblah academic who never wrote anything worth a damn blahblahblah jew who probably would be a cunt to me and plot against me irl blahblahblah
I'd be like "huh".
I might actually read one of his books.
>she made a fucking straight-to-cinema film-adaptation of a novel
>it's just named after one of Harry Potter's textbooks which has had no fucking real relevance until just now
>"it's about the magizoologist that wrote Harry Potter's textbook"
>"o-ok we'll just cast Eddy Redmayne as the lead, and put Johnny Depp and Colin Farrel in the same fucking film for good measure"
Why does it bother you?
If people want more HP universe flicks, they can have them.
>>9615254
Harry Potter should be banned and JK Rowling thrown in prison. They CANNOT be allowed to have them.
It's that time again. Post, rate, rec, shitpost, etc. Have fun.
What does /lit/ think?

What's your favorite short story? Pic unrelated
>The Cask of Amontillado - Poe
>The Penal Colony - Kafka
>Secret Weapons - Cortazar
the list goes on...
>>9614005
completely mistook that pic for a loli, saw cow udders, left in disgust.
>that is the best horror short story
the day politicians realize completely fictional 2d characters (lolis) are less harmful than showing literally naked babies and toddlers all over the world, especially considering there are more people on this planet who have or do or would toddler-diddle than there are, have been, or will ever be people who shame lolis.
>greatest short story in recent history, for the next century at least
it's fucked up and people will cry pedo one way or the other, but think about that objectively:
>2d fictional characters depicted sexually are banned in certain countries if they're short
>real babies and toddlers are naked on cable, movies, satellite, internet, and in photos
>there are humans who, instead of copulating with the opposite sex for the sole purpose of procreation, would rather have sex with a baby or toddler
>hell there are humans who have done that, that alone is fucked up
>same can be said for wastes of life who fap to lolis
>there are politicians, people who are supposed to be leaders of their respective countries, who are so triggered by cartoon porn they had to have arguments with each other re: whether to ban it or not
>this is part of human history
then again, look at how fucked up the young adults are lol it's like we just shit up the world, half ass the rules for thenext generation and say
>here's the mantle kiddo
>don't fuck up
that last one's gotta be my all time fave; but imagining any time span of recent history as someone from 2200-2400 would see it is hilarious.

Repeating my question if anyone could help me identify either of these books:
1. A group of a couple dozen children are on a ship with a robotic nursemaid. It is revealed that humanity was wiped out by unknown enemies but a small part was saved by an advanced alien race. The aliens have put these children on the ship and sent them off to exact revenge for the murder of humankind. It features technology such as a boobytrap that turns their scouts into antimatter versions of themselves and manipulating matter by "hacking" the rules underlying subatomic force carrier particles.
2. Five or so people are chosen to be copied into hundreds of clone bodies and placed upon dozens of ships, each going to a different star. All of the clones based on one man go insane except the protagonist. On their destination planet the protagonist finds several golden towers with technological gifts from unknown aliens, including a transparent spacesuit and a small golden faster than light ship. It turns out that different aliens in starfish-shaped ships are following the first set and destroying any civilization which receives the gifts. The protagonist unwittingly uses the gift ship to return to earth which results in the starfish aliens following and destroying the solar system. He escapes with the original of one of his former crewmates and they embark on a journey to figure out why all this is happening and how it can be stopped.

If you can remember some exact phrases from the books you can use google search operators to get the books in a blink of an eye if they are in the google books database.

Unfortunately it's been many years for both. No luck on tvtropes searches either.
Hey guys, I'm going to go into college to study literature and philosophy, because I don't know what I'm going to do with my life. Consumerism and capitalism basically guarantees that I am going to have to do something involving mundane, facile, pointless work. Anything that actually allows you to pursue a deeper, richer experience in life is relegated to hobbies and extracurricular activity, or pointless college classes like philosophy and literature. I think I'm pretty much guaranteed years and years of suffering. I absolutely despise my life and living on this planet, and you might as well just tell me to kill myself because it doesn't seem like there's anything else worthless sacks of shit like you could come up with anyways. Ask me anything.
What's your favorite type of food?
As opposed to what ?
>>9613685
Nutritious food.
>>9613688
What? Consumerism and capitalism? Idk, having robots do all of the boring work, and just chilling out with a race of peaceful communal intellectuals who just chill out and enjoy themselves. People in this society are so stupid, and so brainwashed by this vision, this all encompassing idea of what life "should be", that they don't know anything else. If you take a step back, you realize that there's thing which could be different and make life a lot more enjoyable.

I had thought that Gravity's Rainbow was just another /lit/ meme, but I was surprised to find that Pynchon's writing is really, really excellent.
Anyway, Prose Praise General - talk about books whose writing is simply enjoyable to read (without taking into consideration plot, development, etc.)

What languages are you learning, /lit/?
Now that I have finished Duolingo, i'm going to learn more advanced French grammar, continue maintaining 'strength' and vocab on Duolingo, and start improving my listening skills.
Once I master French, i'm going to attempt Italian.
Why not Assimil or FSI?
/int/ wiki told me they are the best way to learn French.
>>9602743
yeah i absolutely agree. my native language is german, furthermore i speak english, french, romanian and latin (well, i rather translate than speak it)
wow you're such an intellectual, or should I say intellectualè
