>constant memestoevsky threads are filled with political shitposting more than anything

Nabokov was absolutely right, didacticists are an utter vermin.

Teens seeking guidance through YouTube videos and memes don't have the attention span for half the books Peterson recommends, and those that do manage to finish seven hundred pages are too mentally exhausted to actually digest it and their only real accomplishment is having "finished" the book.
>>
nabokov was a poser, and his translations are better than his prose.

This is why, honestly, you shouldn't feel pressured to power through books. I've never understood the obsession /lit/ sometimes has with reading speed and finishing a backlog. If it takes you a long time to read a book, and you read slowly, that's fine, so long as you comprehend it and appreciate it. It took me months to read Moby-Dick for the first time, but when I was done it was my favorite novel.

What do you guys thing about Danielewski's House of Leaves?
13 posts and 1 images submitted.

Insanely overrated meme book. Danielewski pioneered viral marketing.

Good mid act, but the Johnny Truant stuff was so unbelievably shit

The only people it impresses are people who don't read all that much.

Hi John,

I've never read any of your books but from your youtube videos you seem like a pretty normal and reasonable guy. I don't have you.

Sincerely,
Anon

Your crash course history videos aren't awful but they are quite biased and in many of them you seem to be pushing an agenda.
Therefore they are shite.

There's no such thing.

Everyone, knowing or unknowing follow a philosophical guide. Everyone has a variation of a philosophy, the only difference is that they haven't articulated it to the point of being able to write it down in an understanding manor.

This is the pathway we all unconsciously follow and abide by, Sam Harris has a philosophy whether or not it's stupid to you doesn't matter, it's real and valid.

Trois contes. It will give you an idea of Flaubert's style and wide palette, as each short story is similar to his novels (the 1st has the Bovary style, the 2nd the Saint Antoine style, the 3rd the Salammbo style).

Then, his novels:

>Madame Bovary
The most famous Flaubert, with his unmistakeable style. If you had to read only one Flaubert, this would be this one.

>Salammbo
Top historical novel that may be a bit dated.

>L'Education sentimentale
The most advanced Flaubert. May be a bit steep for a beginner.

>Bouvard et Pécuchet
The funniest one, easier read than the others.
