/lit/ do you like this book?
>>9817312
I really liked it, but IT is better
Also finally somebody here likes SK
>>9817312
I really liked it but the end was a bit disappointing.
You could cut out 2/3 of the book and lose nothing. Too many words which don't say anything. There some good story buried inside, but nor worth digging imo
I saw this book recommended often. Is it worth a try?
Why don't you try reading a few pages from genlib?
It's actually a really good book if you want some socializing 101
Autists try to demean it but it will actually help them if they bother to apply it

Stop appropriating white culture.
So now that there is a new Stirner translation, which one is better? The big drawback of the new one is obviously the replacement of the word spook, but is there more content in the new one?
>>9817245
if youre going to read it once, id say go with the original translation, it's more fun. the new one is a tiny bit clearer (especially if you were to read the first one with a misunderstanding of how stirner uses the word "ego"), but it's less exciting. if you liked the first one, then you could read the wolfi one.
i initially thought wolfi had written the intro to stirner's critics which is great, so i had been excited. after reading the new translation i was surprised that the translator had been able to write that intro, so i looked it up and he hadn't. wolfi seems a bit more concerned with stirner as a traditional 'egoist' and anarchist then i think is merited by the actual book
phantasm > spook
Which is the "original" translation?
What does /lit/ think of Agatha Christie, is this any good?
>>9817152
It's Christie's best book. Don't expect any groundbreaking prose, but it's got interesting characters and one of the best stories (in terms of pure plot) written in that period. The events are perfectly paced and you can really feel the noose tightening around the characters.
Will I enjoy her writings if I loved the poirot television show as a kid?
>>9817213
probably
Help me out here, /lit/. I recall once reading about an esoteric jewish/gnostic cult whose adherents believed that it was necessary to commit every possible sin so as to resemble the divine spark of God.
Does this ring any bells?

fuck, I meant "reassemble" not "resemble"

Haven't read any of his works, seen any of his interviews (pic related?), any evaluation aside from OP or heard of the person.
So, pray tell, where this interest? Are you perhaps an advertiser?
Why does everyone praise this book here, it's even in the top 100
I couldn't relate to the characters at all, it felt like I was reading a very long /r9k/ shitpost
brainlet or shitpost, stop making threads if this is not shitpost attempt
Maybe they could relate to the main character. Except for the drowning in pussy part, I'm guessing.
The only worth books in japanese literature are their classics like Pillow Book and Genji's Tale with some recent exceptions like Silence, Makioka Sisters and Confessions of a Mask.

I fucking hate english speakers of this board, fuck...

Me too.
It's just a pretext though, I hate everybody.
I'm partial to Job.
Could any native speaker take the time to check my motivation letter? English isnt my first language so I would be very eager to hear a native speaker's opinion.
My interest for your professional Bachelor of Computer Science has emerged over the last year. After my graduation, I had a hard time figuring out where I would see myself in the future, I lacked goals and direction. And because I didn‘t just want to half-heartedly choose a degree for the sake of studying, I started to inform myself about all the different degrees and their job prospects over the next decades.
It didn’t take me long, especially with the use of the Internet, to see where the future is heading to – automation. And after having repeatedly been made aware of how fast that next revolution – namely exponential – could come, a desire to be part of that future awakened.
At first, my health background made me doubt that desire. These doubts vanished quickly, mainly because I am confident in my logical thinking abilities. But also because of my marks in maths and physics, which strengthened that confidence. (Of course, I am fully aware of other class sections‘ advances in maths, but I already have started catching up.)
After my decision to pursue a technical degree, I knew it would either be in informatics or an engineering degree. But the fact that I immediately started to look up what programming languages one should learn, shortly followed by me making my first «Hello world » java program, kinda solved my predicament. Since then I have grown to really like learning the java basics through solving problems. And now with my first experiences I am really eager to learn new maths and to develop further my programming skills.
And that’s why I have chosen your professional Bachelor of Computer Science. This bachelor isn’t just going to teach me the knowhow, but also how to apply that knowledge to create programs and to solve problems- so I can immediately enter the workforce.
I am motivated, mature and have a goal, combined with my logical thinking and creativity, I believe to be an eligible candidate for your program and I would be very thankful to get the opportunity to give proof of that motivation. I look forward to your positive response. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours faithfully,

Pomodoro technique
Identify a few genres that you like, then pick a few authors from each genre. Read a few chapters into each one and decide which authors envelope you the best into the book, making you feel that you have become part of the story. That is usually the best way to just sit down and read.
My grandfather, father, and I are all readers, but the eldest likes mystery and my father likes sci-fi. I thought I would enjoy sci-fi until Asimov killed it for me with his overwhelming amount of nerdiness. But there are still some sci-fi authors I enjoy, like Philip K. Dick, Robert Heinlein, and William Gibson's trippy af "Neuromancer".Ended up preferring the fiction books that involves mental introspection through the characters own habits and decisions.
>>9817005
>read a book undisturbed for more than an hour
Why would you want to?
Anyone got much to say about this?
Worth a read?
It's only very short but why not. Sharp and humorous also, so not a slog. Quite unsubtle in its philosophical meaning and Voltaire is Voltaire you probably know much about him already. It's probably what you're expecting it to be.
>>9816938
Eh Voltaire seems like a prick desu. And he's such a meme. Apart from running into a synopsis of Candide in a show the only things I'd really heard of him was his HRE meme and the "Humanity will be safe only when the last lawyer has been strangled by the entrails of the last priest"
Dunno man. What other ideas did he have?
>>9816933
I honestly hate it. I get the point of it and appreciate its historical significance but I can't fathom reading it for fun. The prose is atrocious. It's like reading a comic book.
Why is it bad to read for the plot? Isn't it a bit intellectually wanky to say that plot is not important to you at all, and you only like the prose/philosophy? Surely you enjoy the plot along the way? Pic unrelated.
Most normal folk read for characters and plot.
This joke of a subreddit pretends to read for philosophy.
>>9816852
Obviously it's silly to say that. The problem lies within the heavy emphasis on plot that most people crave. As long as there's a good enough story, most people won't care about the form. I think this is most evident with Americans, who are notorious narrative junkies.
>>9816899
this.
The thing is not that reading for the plot is bad, it's that plot itself is not that important. Plot is supposed to have a synergy with the other elements: themes, form, etc.
I have read all of his other books but I've been purposefully avoiding 1Q84 cuz Murko is a hacko and cmon now, it's the one plebs reach for first from the shelf.

Only good thing Murakami has done for the world was inspiring Wong Kar-wai to make Chungking Express.

No really into Murakami but why does it seem like /lit/ is so hostile to any work that isn't European or western influenced? Is that just /pol/invasion talking or does /lit/ actually have a problem with anyone who reads works outside of just the western cannon? Serious question. I see this quite a lot here.
