>Lecturers repeatedly mention Ezra Pound
>Referred to as one of America's greatest, most controversial writers
>Wrote his (possibly) greatest work recluse in prison
>Suopporter of fascism (that should help here)
>Hemingway was quoted saying his work will be remembered as long as literature is
Yet on /lit/ I never see anything by him;
just like TS Eliot.
Is it, that as they are similar to Joyce, they are just too much for /lit/ to even pretend to comprehend?
With Joyce you guys can meme his phrases and go through pages of not understanding anything hoping next chaper will be better.
But when faced with The Wasteland?
After 5 minutes you are left empty handed and exposed for the unintelligent pseud you really are because you can make absolutely nothing of it.
/lit/ doesn't fully understand the paramount pinnacle of true literature, does it?
Well if you want to see posts about Pound you should make a thread about him that isn't this one. I'll gladly contribute.

JUST my shit up tbph
why not put the telly on too?
What will I gain from reading the canon?
Is it better to read Shakespeare than modern writers, and if so why?
You're not gonna make it.
They're works of such extraordinary power and transcendental quality your life is considerably poorer in quality having read few of them.
>>9813676
these days the canon only consists of unwhites and women. because of liberalism
Got mildly interested in political philosophy. Read Schmitt and going to read Hart. What else would you recommend (I have a decent background in philosophy in general)
inb4 The Republic
>>9813663
Hitler's Mein Kampf
McDonald's Culture of Critique Series
Gulag Archipelago
Anything by Jordan Peterson
Protocols of the Elders of Zion
The Prince
The Bell Curve
>>9813671
Of all of these, only actually read The Prince
My suggestions would be to pick up Hobbes, Locke and Rousseau. Good enough starting point for highschoolers, good enough starting point for you.
Also consider Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals if you want to be swiftly brought into the camp of hating the progressive left, for reasons beyond alt-right memery. Because goddamn.
>>9813689
>No more; and by a sleep to say we end
My suggestion is that you take the redpill, cuck
Why exactly does /lit/ hate him again?
heh
Too many damn footnotes and I feel uneasy about some of his political views
>>9813598
I like him, but Infinite Jest is a deliberately irritating and abrasive text, which also seems to be trying to befriend you, and the confusion that causes makes reading it more unpleasant than a 2deep4u PoMo tome that clearly hates the reader and wants them to be miserable
That and the fact that his writing style isnt that great but for some reason is frustratingly infectious and that for a couple of months/years after reading his work for the first time you find yourself saying things unconciously writing things using his narrative voice and commenting on the "like seriously hypophalangically brachiform ornamental thing on the side of the bldg." which isn't ideal if you want to be an original voice
Kind of the same with Pynchon but not nearly as bad
my younger brother is doing nothing valuable
he's 13, was diagnosed with adhd when young and has been using one of the strongest doses of methylphenidate ever since. He is not some wacky off shore kid, but doesn't have actual friends either. He only plays vidya, and since summer break has been staying up till 4am playing on his x1/ps4 and watching youtube gaming channels
i barely read a book when i was his age, not even the mandatory books for english class. I only started reading when i was 16. Now i wish I started earlier. Because of my lack of experience, i can't suggest books that would be interesting for his age. I gave him Narnia last year, but I doubt he even read it.
I'd like him to start reading. He doesn't like books like the incurious incident of the dog at the night time, 1984, lord of the flies etc. probably because the main characters aren't people he'd look up to.
I'm looking for books with main characters that he can relate with or look up to. Vulgar language or subjects like mild sexuality or violence would be plus. What titles would you suggest for someone his age?

Not pic related that's for sure. It's message is horrible.

sorry, forgot to mention
pic is the only book i fully read before i was 15
Presidents don't write anymore, and this is a problem. We need to bring back the decent writers like how the early presidents were, e.g. Abraham Lincoln, Alexander Hamilton. The early presidents writing could be considered among the Greats; the same could be said of other countries presidents and prime ministers. There appears to be a correlation with good writers and good leaders.
>The Federalist Papers
>The Second World War
What are some other examples?
>>9813378
President Donald J. Trump.
If there's a correlation between good writers and good leaders, why are U.S. Grant's memoirs so much better than his presidency?

A guide for the perplexed
In your best prose, describe human nature.
Bipedal, selfish.
Social, altruistic, creative producers, cellar-door
literally all controlled by feminine sexuality
Are books on social skills worth reading? if they are then which ones are the best?
I have heard that this one is alright. Has anyone read it who could tell me the effect it had in their interactions?
If I get 6 someone will post in my thread.
How to Skin Friends and Consume People
So let's try to get this figured out once and for all, is it impossible for most male or female writers to not write characters of the opposite gender that aren't that good?
It just seems like most men have a problem with writing female characters that either aren't 2D or just love interests, or just men with boobs(forgetting that men and women have some differences in how they perceive the world due to both biology and culture). Most female writers fail at writing good males by either writing men like boys or just making their male characters act in ways that men..just don't.
Is there anyway to overcome this in any medium and stop perpetual eyeroles from each gender?

Bump and another pic related
Bump for interest.

Currently reading a book on ecomodernism. I think they have good critique on more traditional environmentalism, but they seem to be just as ideological; there's cherry-picking and wishfull thinking. Still worth a read.

More diversity in your choice of literature is a positive thing, as long as the books aren't shit.
Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o is genuinely worth reading as is ancient chinese and Japanese literature. Ancient Egyptian literature is great too.
