Why does /lit/ pretend to be so highbrow when the reality is that you mainly just wank to cartoons all day?
I wish /lit/ actually did pretend to be highbrow. Even pretence would be better than this.
>>9816281
Eh idk its kind of something to emulate actually. I got some good recommendations yesterday.
Just thought it might be a way to approach the lack of diversity in what is """allowed""" reading material for discussion
>>9816283
This is 4chan. You can post whatever the fuck you want. People will call you a faggot regardless. You want actual discussion from all responses in a thread go somewhere else.
Why this thread isn't on /lit/?

I'm way too neurotic to skip a paragraph.
Never, really never.
Why the fuck would I ever do that.

There isn't one. However, the Dhammapada is read in all branches of Buddhism and is fairly short, that might be a place to start.
Can prose this divine be learned or am I always going to mediocre
>>9815799
You are always going to mediocre, yes
>>9815799
I am a firm believer in innate talent so my answer is no OP you're better off doing whatever youre good at
>>9815799
Well, great prose can always be reached. The perfectly divine, possibly not, but that does not stop man from trying. You though, you have to go outside to even try, anon.
Why does everyone say there is no modern day great books or literature? I just read pic related and it is next gen great stuff. 100 years from now this book will be praised as a classic.
It's a shame many books are not recognized until after the author has passed on.
>>9815744
What type of book is this? The preview doesn't give much depth into the structure of the book, and the author seems to be part of the weird fiction meme scene
>>9815764
>weird fiction meme scene
perhaps.
>>9815744
If you're shilling it, post the best except you can and I will think about ordering it.
Okay /lit/, so I have a problem.
I used to read while subvocalizing. I was fine with my pace. But then I noticed myself not subvocalizing, so I started rereading constantly to make sure I did. Now it's become an ingrained habit and it takes me hours to read, but if I wanted to I could easily stop subvocalizing and read very quickly.
What should I do? I'd be fine just subvocalizing again.
>>9815735
Well everyone reads differently, apparently, but I sub-vocalize while taking notes, highlighting, and tagging pages of significant shit. Needless to say, sometimes it takes my quite a significant amount of time to read some books. But, I spend a significant about of time in study, which makes it. possible, more worth my time. I don't think I'd get away with reading fast and being able to reach my interpretation on some novels. Do what you think is best for you. I think it's best to spend your time understanding what you are looking at.
>>9815905
Whoa! My apologies for the grammar errors.
>Smokes weed and shit posts on 4chan for fun on a weekend.
>Really living it up
>>9815914
The worst part is I have really shit retention no matter what, so I can't really tell whether or not I understand what I read even if I didn't subvocalize. The frustration comes in with unnecessary reading. I'm more than willing to read a normal pace if it means better comprehension, but I can't figure out how. It's either sluggishly re-reading and get absolutely everything or speeding and may or may not understand everything.
How has reading fiction impacted your life, anon?
I gave learned an important lesson from it, and indeed now live a life well aware of how useless it is to read fiction.
>>9815671
I'm more intelligent than the normies. Not more happy though.

Religion aside,is the Bible a well written book ?
Is it worth reading ?
>>9815651
Yes, just for all the times it is referenced in other literature.
>>9815651
it's not a singular book, you dip
>>9815661
It is usually compiled though.
