I know most of IC hate this guy but just stumbled onto his new video.

He's asking his following to design tshirts for him and he takes 50% of the profits? Isn't that a bit exploitative or is the exposure they'd get be worth it?

Only the placing Artist get 50%. So he take 100% profits of everyone else - way to grab money from a fanbase that's mostly kids
>>
>>3046265
Alright, I know /ic/ is obsessed as fuck about doing any type of "free work" even in form of contests, but be real here for a moment. Those participants could not sell their t-shirt designs on their own, otherwise they'd do that already. That guy's popularity is what would sell them, so 50:50 is a great deal. Most professional artists who get commissioned to do t-shirt designs for big youtubers and streamers etc would kill to get 50% royalties on sales instead of 1 fixed salary.
>>
He gets 50% of the profits based on their art.

However, they get 50% of the profits based on his following.

It's a mutually beneficial business relationship. He pays the artist for providing the work, the artist pays him (via deduction) for promotion.

Old thread sucked ass. Lets do better.

No resolution rules, that's getting a bit dated as monitors support larger resolutions and there are no mods to enforce rules so whats the point. If you want your art critiqued provide a decent, reasonable photo or scan and people will be happy to view and give feedback.

Spend a month doing a study, you'll learn a lot.
>>
>>3046532

In my opinion, as someone who has been doing digital painting since the early 2000's - forget about the "making a copy is not a REAL study" idea that's floating around. Yes, copying alone is not enough, but if you really want to study an artist's work intimately you have to copy, sometimes down to imitating single brush strokes. You have to spend long hours with a single painting examining every square inch, so to speak. Just looking intently at a piece while you're making the study helps. Look at the painting you're studying every day, get fanatical about mark making, edges and brush work.
There's simply no way around it. I recently finished a 50-60 hour (digital) study of a landscape painting from an another artist. Learnt a ton.I encourage you to do the same. Pick your absolute favorite painting to do a deep, long study on but also do quicker composition studies etc. of his other paintings.

This thread is meant for artists who might want to try to make anime works in-between their studies, however, all forms of stylization is welcome here. It is strongly recommended that you use this thread in conjunction with learning the elements and fundamentals of art. You can also discuss the visual elements of various professional artists as well if you keep it relatively articulate and civil.

Submit your drawings, receive feedback or critique others! Share your knowledge and remember to thank those who've critiqued or red-lined your drawings. Most importantly, most importantly....you should have fun!

How does one actually improve? I see a lot of debate about "Loomis" and "Draw what you love", all this crap. People here always say "don't do anime" but then there's artists out there who are amazing at anime, but have never studied anime in their life.

So what is it? What is the right path to take to make sure your art doesn't remain shit?

you stick a fork in a wallsocket, that's the only known way to get the spark if you're not born with it.

seriously though there isn't an answer to your question if "read the sticky, consult the recommended materials, and then draw for years" isn't satisfactory for you.
>>
>>3045965

Draw. Draw. Draw. The main difference between you and all those artists you admire is the time they have spent drawing.

Look at things. Real life, pictures, artists you like. Collect references. Analyze, remember. Then draw more.
>>
>>3045965
1.)study your fundamentals
2.)apply fundamentals to shit you actually wanna draw. Don't listen to retards who say not to draw anime unless you mastered realism
3.)Draw a shit ton and always be critical of your work. Look for feedback
4.)be patient. So many regards on ic think you can reach pro if you draw 16 hours a day for 1 years. That's like saying you can achieve the body of Arnold if you train hardcore for a year. It doesn't work like that, your brain needs time to rest. You will also deal with a lot of regression and progression periods. It's perfectly fine, improvement isn't a linear path
5.)Get out of your comfort zone. Interestingly, you have 2 factions of artists. On one end, you have those DA tier artists who draw out of their comfort zone but because they don't give a shit about fundamentals they don't improve. On the other end, you have artists who study their fundamentals but because they are too scared to tackle those really complex subjects, they don't improve much. The best artists do both.

How many hours do you put into art each day, or each week? How long does it take you to fill a sketchbook?

I saw this video recently and the "this guy fills a sketchbook in a month. this guy fills and sketchbook in a WEEK" thing got me interested.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2w4MS67Fno

I know the time isn't as important as what you actually do with it, what you learn or think about, but I'm curious just how much time people on here put into things.
And also how much time or output you know pros do or did when they were grinding. I've heard about Kim Jung Gi filling a big stack of pages every day when he was still in school, or the FZD students drawing themselves into carpal tunnel.

I work very slowly, and I'd like to know what kind of paces other people are getting through paper at.

8 hours. It's my job.

It takes forever to fill a sketchbook now because by the time I get home I don't even want to look at a pencil.
>>
>>3043622
I mostly work digital so it takes a while to go through sketchbooks. I'm trying to get into it more now though to strengthen my draftsmanship, and have a bit under a sketchbook in a month maybe. It's tough to fill them up when I work full time and also am busy doing paintings.

I think the whole thing of grinding hours that /ic/ proposes is a bit silly and not entirely necessary. You start to get diminishing returns since you can't focus as well after long periods of work. 1 or 2 hours in a day of really good practice is better than mindlessly drawing for 4 or 5 hours.

How would one get into storyboard art as a career?
Are there any programs I should be using to supplement my drawings?
Finally, where would I find a studio to hire me and is a degree in an art-related field important to them?
As a side note I'm going to add that I originally felt like I shouldn't make an entire thread about this until I noticed a few other threads significantly less relevant than mine.
Image unrelated.

You won't get a job at Lucas, Pixar, Disney, or any of the big studios without previous experience and a degree.
Here's an ad for Disney, as an example:
http://www.entertainmentcareers.net/Walt-Disney-Animation-Studios/Story-Artist/job/216234/
Here's one for Blizzard:
http://www.creativeheads.net/job/13008/storyboard-artist-in-irvine

Your best bet is to go work on college films or small indie films or games, and go to school, and study art with a film minor. You're basically setting up shots for the cinemaphotographer, and if you don't know cameras, lighting, and the basics of film and composition, you're just wasting their time. Everyone thinks they can storyboard - but it's a highly specialized art, and not many can do it well.
You can practice - go download a script, especially for a movie you've never seen before, and do a full set of storyboards for the whole movie. See how much work it is, and how hard it can be, especially if you have no film experience. You need to work fast, and communication is imperative - you're rough drafting the entire movie. Some of it will be cued for you in the script, some won't.
You really need to love doing it, to set out to do it as a career. Especially since most of the movies you'll work on won't interest you. Starting out, you'll get the direct to Bluray shit, chick flicks, stuff like that. Oh, and you'll starve. You're not gonna get near a blockbuster until you've been around and proven you can do it.

Thanks for the input!
Not many people offer realistic and valid advice on 4chan in general so I appreciate it.
I am getting an art related degree already but I'll see if I can squeeze in another minor if I do feel like Storyboarding is for me.
I'm trying to broaden my skillset in regards to anything art related so I figured I'd look into this.

About networking...
I know the point is to have people follow you but do you guys ever NOT want certain people from adding you on their friendslist, following your insta, etc.?

I'm asking because recently I posted on LevelUp and at first I was flattered by a few friend requests, albeit maybe they were just networking themselves.
However my post on LevelUp isn't even active anymore and I am still getting request after request which would be fine if they weren't all guys and half of them are hitting on me and like 75% of them have names I can't even pronounce.
I think when you accept friend requests Facebook makes you a suggested friend more to other profiles.

Is it worth it to add them and have more "networking"??
Also why is every mother fucker adding me either Muslim or from India?
6 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Adding someone on Facebook isn't exactly 'networking' in the useful sense
Realistically speaking, how many of those muslim or indian guys do you think are gonna be a valuable link to the industry?

IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

→ →
There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.
