PS or SAI for 2d art?
>>3053331
What kind of 2D art, drawing, painting, anime, indie?
PS is terrible at linework, good for painting, textures and post production. Sai is the exact opposite.
You can make the same summary for every software and deduce how suitable it is for you.
>>3053331
Photoshop is for photos. And not for anything else. It's for post production/editing.
SAI is better than it but ultimately it depends on your style.
I'd say if you are gonna get something for 2D, try manga studio,SAI or Firealpaca. Krita is shit
>>3053336
linework and cell shading possibly.
Ive been using ps but wondering if i should have been using sai this whole time
i see some ppl can do real lean sketches right off the bat when i have to do layers on layers of shitty scribble sketches before my drawing starts looking how i want
draw a box.com. work on that linework

>inb4 DRAWABOX=ISIS
Could somebody please explain?
>>3051733
This isn't necessarily bad, Anon. For example Disney artists tend to scribble a lot so they find the right gesture line for their keys (you can see that in Drawn to Life, blogs from Disney artists and some pencil roughs from movies).
If you're drawing traditionally I recommend using a softer pencil and trying to draw with as nuch of a light hand as possible. This way even if you scribble a lot you don't end up with a mess in the busiest areas, and it's easily erasable.
I am looking for an artist or artists who want to be a part of a new MMORPG that im developing.
This includes concept design as well as 3d models.
*you won't be getting paid but don't worry it'll look GREAT on your resume
This is a paid gig
>>3053416
A MMORPG ROM game? Now I've heard of everything!
Not looking for critique, my art is subpar and I know I need to improve. But I am looking for assistance, /ic/.
Trying to create an alien that is basically a spider/scorpion/lizard taur. Upper body of a woman, lower body of... whatever the loving fuck that trio would create.
I've been trying spider legs, I like the legs, but it's the back-end that doesn't work, I really want there to be a tail, really need someone with a decent mind to help me on this matter.
Bump for assistance.
what if there were threads that you can post your work in
For starters spiders don't have muscles. They just pump fluids like a hydraulic system to open their legs. Thicc is not a good look for that sort of biology. Rigid and sleek would be better.
I decided to just buy Huion tablet instead of Wacom, since it's lot cheaper and it's just for hobby (also I'm bad at drawing). Does anyone have recommendation on what to get?
Huion has some of the worst most buggy drivers avalable. But if your dead set on a huion go with the Giano if you have the desk space or the hg160.
>my recommendation for a cheap first tablet is the XP-PEN Star03 it has a wireless pen, better drivers and is about the same size as an intuos medium
>>3047002
>Batteryless pen
Accidentally typed wireless pen like a Fucking idiot.
>>3047002
>buggy drivers
Is it buggy? I would get Intuos pro, but I'm not sure if spending +$400 for a hobby is good idea...
Any opinion on Huion's Q11K?
I learned anatomy very well by drawing everything 9 times from reference and 9 times fro memory. How could something like this be applied to learning to draw figures from your mind? You can't use the same pose like you can use the same muscle? Is their anymethods any of you guys have used to draw poses well from your mind?
Can't you rotate with your mind?

>I learned anatomy very well by drawing everything 9 times from reference and 9 times fro memory. How could something like this be applied to learning to draw figures
do the same thing with proportions
dude if you already know anatomy, like truly know it you would have no problem drawing poses from imagination.

How do you learn to draw without using much or no destruction?
Are there any focused exercises that are proven to work or is it just milage?
>>3037521
>destruction
construction
>>3037521
Most animu artists focus on a bunch of characters and just draw them a thousand times. That and basic anatomy gets you the shit in this viceo, also I doubt that this is his first attempt.
Post decent art books, starting a collection.
Need one with robot sketches
There's already a book thread, please check the catalog more thoroughly next time.

hey fellas, where are the top online programs for illustration?
I knew about Bethany College of applied arts but I think it's dead now?
anyone know what the fuck happened? I was saving for the illustration program dammit, but the site disappeared
anyway, what are nice online schools that offer the same level of quality teaching?
and I don't mean schoolism or CGMA 2d or anything, I mean real schools that offer real degrees. of course I have a schoolism subscription and of course I study from home as well, but I'd like to get the real experience (not te on-campus experience because I'm comfy where I live)
just want to know about a good online school where you can get a degree and have people like Mark English as your teacher like BCAA did.
any help?
not trying to be a fucking elite I just want to know if there is somethin' like that.
Care to help a d/ic/k?
>>3052092
>Bethany College of applied arts
Those dickheads didn't want my financial aid moneies because I dropped out in community so fuck em. It shouldn't be a transferable requirement for that program if general education doesn't need to be taken.
>>3052109
do you know what happened to Bethany anyway? that sucks man, suddenly everything just disappeared? no twitter no fb no website
is this the road of the Art Department and the drama with Manley?
Is every online school with a degree doomed from the start?
jesus christ, who the fuck is behind the administrations of these schools I wonder
they did have really great teachers working in the illustration field though.
mmmh... it kinda makes me sad...
to which online school should I stick with then?
>>3052116
I have no idea. The last spam email I got from them was from back in 2015. It's a shame because those classes were cheap.
I don't think there is anything else out there like that at the moment. CGMA is your only best bet as they have 1 hour q&A with the teacher each week and your 'classmates' will answer you faster than the teacher.
Once a week? Once a month? Once a day?
I heard from certain artists that beginners shouldn't even bother making finished pieces at all! Thoughts
Recently it's been once a week. They're all garbage.
>>3051503
>I heard from certain artists that beginners shouldn't even bother making finished pieces at all! Thoughts
I actually agree with this 100% finished pieces are a bunch of paintings
and problems combined into one image.
it's like if you're trying to make a comic or something and you realize none of the shit you've been learning prepares you for something oddly specific.
Disagree. There are certain things you only learn if you attempt to make a finished piece. Don't spend months on them, but do make an effort at finishing your stuff. It's a good foundational habit to form from the start.
how paint with gouache ?
>>3051474
http://www.newmastersacademy.org/introduction-sketchbook-techniques-materials-5/
>>3051474
don't, it's a stupid medium that people only use because nostalgia. it's no better then tempera paint (the kind you do finger painting with in preschool)
>>3051485
Hey can I ask you- why is gouache unpopular? When I google the question, there's no answer.
It seems easier to blend than acrylic, easier to control than watercolor, and less chemically than oil paints with solvents.
Is it too expensive? Does it not age well? Something else? I'm really curious.
I decided that I have to improve (or rather fix) my life in order to pursue art in the most efficient and healthy way.
>(i am) very skinny, mostly trash food, no physical exercises at all
>very messed up sleep pattern, no schedule to go with
>no discipline, a lot of procrastination with low hanging fruit
So I want to make it all better so I can become a good artist. Do you have any tips for anything I have mentioned?
>>3044962
Decide on a schedule.
Wake up, cook breakfast, workout, draw
(Look for a job)
Lunch
Dinner
Draw
Bed
There :)
>>3044962
Do little things first and build up, don't hype yourself to change everything at once and then fail because you set the bar too high.
Like drawing 10 minutes a day. Going to bed 1/2 earlier until you get to the bedtime you want. Exercising 20 min. per day. Eating a little less junk per day. Is your room clean and tidy? If not, clean up a little part of it each day.
Pick ONE and see if you can manage to stick with it for a couple weeks. Cleaning is pretty relaxing and meditative and might give you a clearer mindset going forward
>>3044962
Fix your life =/ Pursue art.
Do not mix the two together. It is a recipe for disaster. If you keep them separate, you won't have to add all your baggage into your art practice. Then your practice will be purely for art improvement and won't be weighed down by whatever life circumstances you're dealing with.
