Getting my PC cleaned professionally because it is REALLY bad.

Should I hide pirated stuff in a password protected folder or am I being paranoid?

That's disgusting.
You're disgusting.

Just take that entire build. I mean the entire thing, and dunk it into a container of rubbing alcohol. Maybe then it'll break some of that smoker's dust free. How do you let your things get like this? What does the rest of your house look like?

Costs $40/month. Verizon FIOS. Optimum recently upped their plans and are offering 300/100 for the same price and unlike Verizon, they let me use my own router. Stuck in a contract though. Thanks dad. I pay for many things in this house (including Internet) and he doesn't even consult me before switching over from Optimum in the 1st place.

"my house my rules" yea fuck you. See how much your rules mean and just how much money you have to hemorrhage to pay your bills every month when I move out.

FiOS lets you use your own router, I have mine on a pfsense box. You just have to use a MoCA brdige to get your VoD and guide info for your TV set top boxes.
The G1100 has a MoCA bridge built in which is why it's recommended you use their router, you don't HAVE to use their router though.

Also FiOS has $69.99 for 1gbps now, not much to compare to that from any ISP.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baseband_processor
>A baseband processor typically uses its own RAM and firmware
>Since the software which runs on baseband processors is usually proprietary, it is impossible to perform an independent code audit. By reverse engineering some of the baseband chips, researchers have found security vulnerabilities that could be used to access and modify data on the phone remotely
https://www.fsf.org/blogs/community/replicant-developers-find-and-close-samsung-galaxy-backdoor
>Today's phones come with two separate processors: one is a general-purpose applications processor that runs the main operating system, e.g. Android; the other, known as the modem, baseband, or radio, is in charge of communications with the mobile telephony network. This processor always runs a proprietary operating system, and these systems are known to have backdoors that make it possible to remotely convert the modem into a remote spying device. The spying can involve activating the device's microphone, but it could also use the precise GPS location of the device and access the camera, as well as the user data stored on the phone. Moreover, modems are connected most of the time to the operator's network, making the backdoors nearly always accessible
>we discovered that the proprietary program running on the applications processor in charge of handling the communication protocol with the modem actually implements a backdoor that lets the modem perform remote file I/O operations on the file system

Phones are insecure, stop using and walking around with a device that has access to your files and data. Stop using a device that is restricted and locked down by the manufacture in all aspects and is built on proprietary hardware and firmware.

I thought this was wrong since there is no government in free software that tells people what to work on.

So I guess it's true.
FOSS really is communism.

If you want help:
>Assemble parts list
https://pcpartpicker.com/
>State the budget for your build (and country if not USA)
>List games/software you use often, as well as your monitor resolution + refresh rate
>Clarify your goal for build improvements: lower price or improved specs?
How to assemble a PC, select components & more (outdated)
https://wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php?title=Build_a_PC

CPUs:
No i5 unless discounted
>G4560 - poverty-tier builds
>R3 1200 - Budget builds (<$500)
>R3 1300x - Good stop-gap between the 1500x and the 1200, only get a 1400 if you absolutely need multithreading
>R5 1500x - Good but up to 1600 if you can
>R5 1600 - Best value for higher fps gaming / mixed usage; 1600x if you want higher stock clocks
>R7/Used Xeon/Threadripper - Compute/Multitask/VM/mixed use; Not for just gaming

GPUs:
Coin miners have driven price up and stock down, waiting to buy a GPU might be wiser
>Integrated CPU Graphics - Desktop stuff and very light games
>GTX 1050(Ti) - Lower end budget cards, drop settings on newer games, RX560 beaten by both
>RX570 - 1080p@60~hz maxed, running most maxed older games at 100~Hz
>RX580 and GTX1060 6GB - 1080p@80hz maxed, 1440p@60hz at lower settings; RX580 better in newer games
>GTX 1070 - 1080p@130hz /1440p@60hz at high
>GTX 1080 - 1080p@144hz / 1440p@60hz maxed, 4k@60hz in a few games; Probably the highest end card you need for 1080p/1440p
>GTX 1080Ti - 1440p@144hz and 4k@60hz maxed/high in many games
>Good fucking luck even getting a VEGA right now

RAM:
>Check your Mobo QVL before buying any RAM
>Ryzen CPUs benefits a lot from high speed RAM

General:
ALWAYS LOOK AT PRODUCT REVIEWS!
Always consider an SSD. Try buying a large SSD for what you'd pay for your SSD+HDD combined, and add a HDD later
NVMe SSDs aren't for a faster OS boot, they're for productivity/scratch disk/VMs. NVMe and M.2 are not the same thing, M.2 is a form factor

r8 and h8 my first budget build. I know it's shit but the prices in canada are pretty high. I do plan on getting a better CPU and GPU in the future.

Get non-X ryzens and OC them. Take one stick of 8gb ~3000mhz for future expandability. Buy a cheaper mobo like b350m pro-vdh, it has the same vrm as more expensive ones.
>>
>>62071268
Also try to squeeze in a gtx 1060 6g and you wont need to upgrade so soon.
