I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Trying to get a Debian Live USB working.

rufus-2.14.exe with debian-live-8.7.1-amd64-kde-desktop.iso.

I am using a Medion Akoya S2218 with windows 10.

I went into the BIOS and disabled boot security. Then I changed the boot device order so the USB was first.

Still just boots to windows as normal. Help?

I recently upgraded my PC. From a GTX660 to a GTX1060 and from an old 1000:1 Monitor to a 3000:1.
Now My probel is: the contrast is way too high, slightly dark things are outright black.
But the problem doesn't exist on my Windows installation, I even confirmed it with comparisons between games that run on both systems, but I don't have any games that tax the system hard enough to confirm whether there are serious perfomance issues. But I did notice that Blender doesn't offer CUDA rendering on Linux, but on Windows and also, it crashes alot on linux. Since I use my Linux installation to edit photos and videos, it's a big deal breaker.
i suspected my New monitor to be the culprit but I ruled that out now.
So now I suspect my Graphics card.
I saw under "additional drivers" that my PC is using the open source xorg driver, so I switched to the proprietary. After being asked to input my password and confirming, the additional drivers window goes all gray and doesn't come back until a system error, pic related is a part of the Details
How do I resolve this to install the newest driver and get my graphics running properly (hopefully)?

Reminder to test source mage on a virtual machine at least, don't miss this experience

Free from obfuscated and pre-configured code.
Fully committed to GPL, uses only free software (as in freedom) in their main package.
With even the documentation licensed as FDL.
Without 3rd party patches, sensible defaults or masked packages.
Doesn't need obfuscated python libraries, only bash.
Uses clean dependencies as they came from upstream developers, which by the same provides instant updates.
Can also use flags.

A few commands to upgrade your system after installing
cast smgl-setup
man smgl-setup
sorcery update
scribe update
cast smgl-archspecs
sorcery
sorcery rebuild
cast -r linux

if you budget gaymin your bottleneck is going to be the gpu, just get the 1500x and dump the rest into a gpu.

That is unless you a "progaymer" and need that 250fps, in which case get a cheapo 7350 or something.

OP question: is it bad (in terms of security) to encrypt the aes-encryption key that encrypts files - with a user password?

$file
$aes_encryptionkey
$userpassword

$aes_encryptionkey = aes256($aes_encryptionkey,$userpassword)
aes256($file,$aes_encryptionkey)

I can't connect to my server running mpd using MPDroid. These are the iptables rules I have:
iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 8000 -m conntrack --ctstate NEW,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT
iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp --sport 8000 -m conntrack --ctstate ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT
iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 6600 -m conntrack --ctstate NEW,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT
iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp --sport 6600 -m conntrack --ctstate ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT

Using telnet I get the following:
On port 6600 I get connection refused.
On port 8000 I am connected before the connection is abruptly closed by foreign host.

What am I missing?

I have to contact one person, which I sadly have no email to, only know their Facebook account - but I dont have one on my own.

Is it "safe" to make fake account on 10-minute email, with only initials of your name/surname? I mean, wont Assbook try to make profile out of you anyway, connecting data gathered from sites plugins and your IP?

I know it sound like paranoid but I cant help it.

Why doesn't Windows boot from USB? I have a USB to SATA cable and have tried with two separate hard drives, one with 7 and one with Vista. Both of them get partially through booting before flashing a blue screen for a split second and restarting the computer. It's no big deal, but I'd like to know why.

Already been invented and in use for over 10 years in non-third world countries.
>>
>>60158459
First world = US and allies during the cold war
Second world = Soviets and allies during the cold war
Third world = Countries with no affiliation to either US or Soviets in the cold war

You can try to imply that the US is a backwards shithole if you want, but calling the US third world is not the way to do it. It's just objectively wrong.
>>
>>60158473
>words always mean what they used to mean
Nobody means Switzerland or Ireland when talking about third world, and second world is completely out of use.
In the common usage, first world countries are developed countries, and third world countries are shitholes.

Not that bad. The shroud is more tacky.
I'd rather get that glass side panel that is a display to put read outs on. Or even a small lcd to mount on top of my main monitor.
That thing would be to small to get a reading off id you have less than 20/20.
If it had a larger display, preferably full color that could fit more readouts I'd consider it for a next build, but for anyone with a brain, it's not worth what extra it would cost.
