>>60157472
It makes sense that a 12" laptop would aim for battery life and compactness first, speed second.
But switching to a low voltage processor and single-channel memory was too much of a trade-off for 2 extra hours of battery life and lack of battery protrusion on the bottom. Plus that trackpad bullshit. X260 is where they got it mostly right again.

I gave my nephew a Lenovo laptop for Christmas.

His mother went through his browser history. She found porn there. She started yelling at my nephew and then she picked up a big rock and smashed it into the back of the screen.

No the screen no longer works on that laptop. He is still using it with an external monitor.

Because Intel it's so jew that instead of trying to do an effort to redesign their architecture properly, they prefer to offer underclocked Sandy Bridge in 22 nm.
Hopefully AMD will rape them. Ryzen is intrinsecally more energy efficient. Full voltage and less comsumption == btfo.

I was thinking about getting an x270 but it seems from reading reviews they done fucked it up again, it's worse than the x260, and it seems there really is no reason to buy it over the current carbon except for being able to use an extended battery. but without buying the biggest battery, the carbon actually runs better for longer, has a better screen, and doesn't get as hot. problem is I will have to wait forever for the price of that carbon to be affordable for me. oh well, I'll keep using the x230 which I love.

Why, they are good, and honestly they feel better. Old thinkpad keyboards felt flimsy, I remember they would bend a little bit if I pushed harder. Now, the keyboard feels more tactile and isn't as flimsy as it used to be

It's just evolution, island is designed to feel better under fingers (unless you of course have a keyboard that has no depth )

Except they don't, because they are level flat tiles. A good keyboard should slope. The old thinkpad keyboards could be entirely swapped out if they broke as well, the new keys make repair much harder.
>>
>>60163623
The newer ones are all with 1080p or 1440p. Just don't but shit that is 6 years old yo. But yeah thinkpads have shit screens in general. It's just because the people who buy them dont need games or movies so they cut corners there. Actually I have a t460 and the screen is perfectly fine.

>>
>>60157391
>Slower

Nope. The processor is objectively better. What happened between these generations was the introduction of ULV processors, which caused old M CPUs to turn into U CPUs. An incremental speed increase and a 20w decrease in TDP. What you're thinking about is the introduction of the T440, which now uses ULV instead of MQ processors. However, this is a non issue, because there's now a T4**p line, which continues the standard TDP of its' predecessors.

tl;Dr this guy is clueless
>>
>>60164180
There's no reason for a laptop to be thick if they can make it thinner without sacrificing anything
>>
>>60164055

>>
>>60164180
I'm just asking 'cuz it's cheap and has decent battery life.
>>
>>60164204
On that note why are manufacturers putting PCIe SSDs in their laptops? Don't they consume more power than SATA ones?
>>
>>60164305
Looks better on paper
>>
>>60164305
they are smaller so more space for battery more than makes up for the a little bit more consumption and they are faster
>>
>>60164317
But so does more battery life.

>>60164348
SATA m.2 drives exist too.
>>
>>60156361
You spelled Dell wrong
>>
>>60164305
>Don't they consume more power than SATA ones?

I think NVMe SSD's actually consume less power per MB read/written.
They tend to be much faster and thus consume more power overall, but that's not really an important measure.

But the real reason is they are smaller, often leaving a 2.5" bay free for a hard drive or second SSD.
>>
>>60164305
Really good question. >>60164317 already answered.

Basically it's only useful for servers but they need to add something new in a world which has entirely stalled hardware wise.
>>
>>60164410
AHCI was designed for hard drives.
And using SSD over SATA was always a bit of a hack.

Makes perfect sense to move all SSD's over to NVMe, even if you don't "need" the extra performance it has far less overhead and latency.
>>
>>60156361
>terrible cooling
>shit keyboard
>shovelware shoved deep

Only reason people buy lenovo is that they're a tad cheaper than it's competitors. And it's evident why.
>>
>>60164567
hint: we're not talking about their low-end products.
>>
>>60164567
Thing is they're not cheaper. A proper enterprise grade thinkpad is more expensive than a similar spec Elitebook. My work has switched as a result. The Elitebooks are great but will they last as long? Doubt it.
>>
>>60165083
yes, elitebooks are great

easier to service as well
>>
>>60163260
yes, but because they just shoved it in the same old case with no design considerations, it gets worse battery, it throttles harder, and it heats up way too much. plus removing some other shit like the full car reader and some other things left weak flex points all over.

the only thing is does better than the x260 is marginally better graphics, but even that gets gimped by throttling. the carbon with the same CPU gets like 15% better performance on graphics and like 5% more on CPU. the x-series needs a total overhaul.
>>
>>60165083

Thinkpads are only for successful companies.

>Anon just buy this X220, it's durable and it's robust and it doesn't break and it's this thing you can always rely on
>Ok
>Buy one
>Trackpoint leaves finger sore after a while, keeps drifting into places randomly so I have to stop using it after a short while
>Trackpoint scrolling is really jerky on anything on Windows that is not the web browser
>Battery is wobbly, looks like it's about to come out at any second
>Type a bit on it, notice the keyboard is flexing on the left side
>Try to fix it, the keyboard bezel is so weak I don't know why it even exists, bends like a bitch
>Ok fuck it let's just cope with it
>Buy a mini dock series 3 because I want to plug the thing to monitors
>Put it in there
>Wobbles like crazy

Seriously I know that this is cheap stuff and all but at least fucking admit it's not top notch quality. I paid 200EUR for this and I would not pay a cent more for it.

It's called "I feel like I'm always right and I have to tell everyone about it" so it reeks of cunt and people stop listening even when you're actually right which happens to be not 100% of the time

I need a laptop but also need to compile xcode. I could get an XPS 13 and an old (2010-2012), used macbook for around the same price as a current-gen MBP 13. I've never used a mac before. What should I go with?

Wouldn't the incredible inconvenience of carrying around two laptops make dual booting on the MBP the obvious choice?

Dell Latitude > Lenovo Thinkpad.

Not sure if you meant that literally but if I had both I'd only be using the MBP to compile code that I write on another computer. I've tried doing it with a VM before but it's a hassle especially if I want to run an iOS emulator inside of the VM to test it.

the faster the cpu can load everything the faster it can go back to idle
plus it makes the computer a hell of a lot faster

It would be okay if it wouldn't be ridiculously expensive.

False.
Premium category laptops are available from many other brands. There is nothing wrong with Dell Precision, HP EliteBook and whatnot.

Hell if anything ThinkPads went fucking downhill while the others kept their quality. (Saying that as a ThinkPad owner.)

And cheap laptops - will be always cheap. Lenovo, HP, Dell, Fujitsu - whatever. They all suck.
