Currently worthwhile CPUs:
>G4560 for budget builds (<$500) unless G4620/i3-7100 is heavily discounted
>i3 are only worthwhile for dwarf fortress & single-purpose emulator boxes
>i5 aren't worthwhile. Get Ryzen 5, drop down to G4560, or up to R7/i7
>R5 1400 is not worthwhile unless discounted
>i7-7700k is good but bad value. If over budget, an R5 is probably as good or better for you
>R7/Xeon for compute/multitask/mixed use
Currently worthwhile GFX cards:
>RX570, RX480(if cheap & not blower), RX580, 1080, 1080TI
>RX570 is usually all you need for 1080p@60hz
>RX550 & RX560 are worth considering if you just need 6 monitor support for cheap and/or play low end shit
>1060 & 1070 are worth considering if you already have a Gsync monitor. 1050Ti is for mITX builds or if on sale at ~$100
>Nvidia GPU + Ryzen has issues in many games atm
>Budget builds: consider integrated graphics over a card weaker than RX560
>May for Vega
General:
>No brand/model loyalty. Parametric filters on pcpartpicker can help
>Consider larger SSD-only for what you budget SSD+HDD combined. Add HDD later once needed
>NVMe aren't for faster OS boot. They're primarily for productivity as a scratch disk
>Stop fucking confusing any M.2 drive with NVMe. M.2 is a form factor
>mATX can often save cost as the board+case is usually cheaper
>1 DIMM is significantly slower than 2 DIMMs
>heroes of the storm
>starcraft 2
>civ 5
>other not too demanding shit
>on a budget
rx 550? Or should I wait and see how the rx560 turns out?
>>60175515
You can get by the with 550, especially if you are willing to turn down graphics settings on more demanding games.

I got my hands on a pretty decent machine (i5-3570, 4gb ram, 120 gb ssd) that I intend to use as a home server for torrenting and streaming on my computer and phone. What OS and server streaming application should I install on it?
>inb4 install gentoo
If you are totally new to linux, install windows 7 and setup shared directories, install qbitorrent/transmission and setup webUI. Setup webui for vlc, winamp, everything that has webUI. Install tightVNC and install boinc screensaver to help cancer research :)
Following this thread
I recently just put one together as well and still getting everything set up. I have server 2012 essentials and found a way to give evey computer in the house its own permissions to my file shares by tricking active directory without adding them to the domain. It's pretty neat. But trying to figure how else I could put this thing to work

Seconding this answer. Although, OP, it may sound like you may just need a NAS?

I was using an old Macbook Pro with Debian installed as a LAMP server for many years, but it finally died. Looking for a cheap replacement. Is a MiniPC a good idea for a low-traffic LAMP server? Any recommendations?

It really makes you think.
Never really understood why people got memed into using this over the better, server-less, tracker-less, more decentralized alternative that was Kad/eMule.

help /g/ i am in need of your expertise...
can someone help me achieve this please? I am struggling!!
Write the program reverseArgs.cpp that takes command line input arguments and prints them back in reverse order. For example, if you ran the program as ./reverseArgs first_arg second_arg, you would get an output back of second_arg first_arg.
If you ran the program as ./reverseArgs I love gorgonzola cheese, but I hate toothpaste, you would get an output back of toothpaste hate I but cheese, gorgonzola love I. This is why I (lovingly) refer to this exercise as “the Yoda program”…
If you ran the program with double quotes, then the words within should act as one unit. For example: ./reverseArgs I would rather be at "UC Santa Barbara" would output: UC Santa Barbara at be rather would I.
You are only permitted to use the iostream library.
A session should look exactly like the following example (including whitespace and formatting - note that there is no whitespace at the end of each of these lines and each printed line has a newline at the end), with all manners of different numbers for inputs and the output:
something like this might help?
still learning so not good at this.
sorry op
#include <iostream>
#include <cstdlib>
using namespace std;
int main ( int argc, char *argv[] ) {
cout << "There are " << argc << " arguments here:" << endl;
for (int i = argc-1; i == 0; i--)
cout << argv[i] <<' ';
return 0;
}
do you even code bro?
It's time to go shopping!

Is your CPU fucked, /g/?
Is a fix possible or will the only solution be AMD upgrade?
>>60174765
my CPU was released in November 2008.... so I'm probably fine.
>>60174765
AMD has the same shit with a different name.
Intel is the best so it makes sense that we should support them through giving them as much information as possible so they can improve their product even more :3

Remote security exploit in all 2008+ Intel platforms
https://semiaccurate.com/2017/05/01/remote-security-exploit-2008-intel-platforms/
>The short version is that every Intel platform with AMT, ISM, and SBT from Nehalem in 2008 to Kaby Lake in 2017 has a remotely exploitable security hole in the ME (Management Engine) not CPU firmware.
