You're on a completely different level, either you're fortunate, or earn enough money to justify spending that kind of money on headphones. I wouldn't know the quality of that kind of gear and I'm not sure I care, especially when the 600's are apparently still a contender. I'd rather buy a fucking car at that money.

Hi, /hpg/ this is my first time posting here.
Im looking for a good build quality pair of headphones after my last pair fell apart on me, i've had my eyes on the ath-50x or the MSR7 but i would prefer a pair without any noise canceling or microphone.

My primary useage would be games and listening to music such as electronic or heavy metal or classical.

Take a look at the Focal Elear. I recently acquired these and they sound gloriously slamming while somehow being open as fuck.
This is coming from HD 650, Stax Lambda normal bias, random other cheaper stuff.

For amp, I guess you'd want something with low output impedance because the Elear has a massive 80-300ohm impedance hump at 50hz. Personally using a Schiit Magni 2, but probably anything would work because they're pretty sensitive.

All opinions are subjective, that's why they are opinions and not facts.
>>
>>60149078
Every song is mixed differently and every set of cans are usually different, at the very least in a minimal way. Mix in an AMP with that and now you have even more sound possibilities. That's why you start flat and adjust if needed. Which if you have a nice set of cans and a decent AMP you shouldn't have to.
>>
>>60149078
Why not just have it sound the way you like it from every source by default, without messing with the chain?

Hey guys I'm le epik /v/ gaymer.
My Hyper X Cloud II mic just broke the other day and now I need a new headset or headphones and mic combo.
Budget is 250$ max.
Headphone comfort is important to me (I wear glasses). Not sure if I want open or closed ones. I guess open are fine but it shouldn't leak too much sound. Last time I got the xpt100 recommended because I said closed and it's literally a meme.

So yeah, either modmic + TBD headphones or sennheiser game one which seems to be overpized but actually pretty good.
>>
>>60149984
Sennheiser GAME ONE.
>>
>>60149558
Not an argument. You would like us to believe songs aren't mixed differently? And that headphones don't sound different? And that different amps are unable to make the same set of cans sound different? End yourself dipshit.

Open cans have better sound stage than closed within same price brackets. If Sound stage isn't important then It doesn't really matter.

Also if you guys have recommendations for cheap Bluetooth in ears for working out that'd be great

my adventure is over, linux, or more specifically gnome, fucking sucks on desktops.
Windows look like shit while being dragged, different fonts all over the place, chrome scrolling looks like shit, cant click middlewheel-drag scroll, chrome is generally laggy, one "tick" of the scroll wheel moves through an entire page of applications in the "activities" ui, only window management in alt-tab.

Like holy shit, I don't notice any of this shit on my laptop but as soon as you introduce a mouse and two monitors the world falls apart.
Anyway I hope you guys are enjoying your tunes. I am happy to report that both my dac's work in linux with no effort on my end.

Suprisingly it's able to drive 250ohm headphones to loud volumes. I almost feel like it's "struggling" to do it though and so I want to buy a full fledged desktop amp for my big headphones but people in this thread have told me multiple times that if it's outputting an okay volume then the headphones are being driven properly. I was going to grab a micca origen plus or a monoprice desktop amp or something

Actually neither. I've found the issue independently, and I've read his "guy that spoke about this multiple times before" too, confirming it's not just me.
It's a minor issue: Having a Magni 2 to compare against does help; I wouldn't be able to tell otherwise.

>Modi + Magni
I'd suggest either starting with a Fulla 2 or the Uber version of the stack.

The non-uber modi2 is pointless vs Fulla 2. Suggestions:
- Fulla 2
- Fulla 2 + Magni 2 (possibly uber)
- Modi 2 Uber + Magni 2 Uber (else the magni will look cheap; The metal is different in Uber)

My recommendation among these? Grab just the Fulla 2, as that's likely all you'll ever need. You can in any event buy the rest in the future if not. Here I use Fulla 2 @ Work and uber stack home.

K7XX for $190 or HD 598s for $160? Just looking for a comfortable pair I can wear for a while while playing some games.

The K7XX had a 3.5mm jack which would let me use a Voda boom pro mic with it instead of needing to pick up a standalone mic or have several wires coming out of my head with the Antlion. If the 598s had a 3.5mm jack I'd have already gotten them, but I really don't want to mess with an adapter.

True for HD598 (amp vs no amp). Very different, due to impedance variation across freq.

But between proper amps, it's the fucking same. My HD598 sounds identical with my magni2uber vs my fulla2.

>If you like your subbass

>and you need darkness because treble hate.
Let's not open the can of worms that will result in you spamming cherrypicked frequency response graphs. There are just as many showing the HD600 as having too much or too little treble for this to even be an argument since the 650 are so similar here.

A quick search will yield that most reviewers who've reviewed both do prefer the HD600.

Of course, YMMV. People who prefer HD650/6xx do exist.

I can live without a bump in subbass. I've always had trouble with headphone-induced headache before I started using senns, and subbass does definitely not help.

I'd like something that has expandable memory, is drag and drop, plays FLAC and has decent chips and battery life. A bit of output power would be nice, but isn't super important as I'll be using IEMs more often than not.

put a drop or two of hydrogen peroxide in your ear about 10 minutes before jumping in the shower. The peroxide will liquefy the goo and help it rinse out as you go through your normal shower routine. Doing this once a month should help keep things open.

Sometimes, having dry skin in your ear canals can cause extra wax buildup. If you think this could be the case, put a drop of mineral oil in your ears daily to help moisturize them

However, if you've had a hole in your eardrum or have had any ear surgeries in the past, then skip these options. Getting hydrogen peroxide or mineral oil in your inner ear (on the other side of your eardrum) could cause an infection or dizziness. Instead, just use a washcloth to clean your outer ear canal (or the part of your ear you can see).

Completely agree from my time trying these. I read someone saying these are a great contender in their price range, and went WTF on first listen. Makes me a little skeptical of the Utopia.
>>
>>60148927
I wouldn't say noticeable worse but they definitely weren't better than the HD650, their midrange is nowhere near as smooth and they're a bit hard on the lower treble
>>
>>60155548
If your onboard has hissing/static, not loud enough or there's noticable distorting, get an amp/DAC. Maybe even a combo of the two for harder to drive headphones like K712, DT880, HD 600, etc.
>>
>>60154225
The wood still cracks at the joints on the revision 2. Fuck 'em

NFB-11
>>
>>60155804
>NFB-11
Stop shilling audio-gd garbage you utter retard you don't know anything about audio gear
>>
Using a Fulla 2 and a y splitter to feed active speakers and a subwoofer. Sub has a lowpass dial, but how much of a difference would a crossover make for the speakers?

Thinking about a MiniDsp to handle the crossover.
>>
>>60155823
You don't know anything about me. Have you even listened to the HD650/6XX through the NFB-11 before?
>>
>>60155851
I would never degrade the performance of my HD650 like that.
>>
>>60155863
So then you don't know anything about the NFB-11. Why do you assume it would "degrade" anything?
>>
>>60155887
audio-gd equipment is garbage and the NFB-11 is worse than a FiiO combo unit.
>>
>>60155887
Because it's not Schiit and SBAF told me audio-gd is bad.
>>
>>60155938
yeah headi-fi told you audio-gd are good and how dare anybody say any different
>>
>>60155887
There are multiple Schiit shills around here that shit on anything that isn't a schiit stack.
Just learn to ignore them and call them out whenever you see them
>>
>>60155907
So you're just shitposting and making generalizations over your brand loyalty.

wew lad
>>
>>60155972
You're recommending shitty products that retail for $305USD and sound worse than $60USD products, for what purpose?

At least the Schiit/JDS Labs shills can hide behind the fact that their products cost $99 or $199 for the DAC/amp.

There is not a single reason to buy the NFB-11.
>>
>>60155941
Whoa brother, hold your horses, I'm on your side. Perhaps we should read "Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up" together, to better strengthen our resolve and more efficiently promote Schiit's USA made products.
>>
>>60156004
no let's instead go around recommending overpriced chinese garbage.
>>
>>60155985
>and sound worse than $60USD products, for what purpose?

>>
>>60156023
It's up to you to justify the additional cost of it over the $60 option when you're recommending it.
>>
>>60156023
You're arguing with a shill friend
Notice his carefully chosen words
"sounds worse", not "measures worse". It's impossible to prove him wrong because he's using subjective imaginary measurements.
>>
>>60156044
Nobody has measured the NFB-11, but the Singularity 19 measured worse than an iPhone 5 and it is a higher end model than the NFB-11.
>>
>>60156058
I don't think anyone thinks the Singularity 19 didn't shit the bed, but that doesn't say anything about the NFB-11.
>>
>>60156062
It says something about audio-gd's ability to design a product.

Funny how all the audio-gd fans are on head-fi and never discuss measured performance, because nobody measures their products.
>>
>>60150333
Yeah quickly realized that after posting

I guess the audiophiles needs regarding headphones are just different than mine or the general publics

Oh look another instance of worse-than-iPhone performance, this time it's an NFB line product so it's more comparable to your 11.
>>
>>60147933
its for his disgusting ears. it works wonders honestly if you cant use a qtip on a regular basis
>>

"IMD is actually decently clean overall. THD "cleanliness" depends on the filter used. At least it's generally just 2nd and 3rd order stuff that is a bit high. Subjectively, though, I think this DAC sounds pretty darn good despite the slightly high numbers in some areas. It also just does really well in some areas. For the $150 I paid, it's probably one of the best audio investments I've made in a long while!"

Wow, sounds like he really hated it. Truly terrible.
>>
>>60156123
How desperate must you be to justify your shilling of audio-gd on the only subjective part of the 'review'? Who was crying 'muh measurements' just a moment ago?
>>
>>60155985
>There is not a single reason to buy the NFB-11.

The NFB-11 has a better amp and a better DAC than the Modi 2 Uber / Magni 2 Uber stack, which is $150 + $150, and only costs only a little bit more.

>You're recommending shitty products

You haven't even backed up any of the sweeping generalizations you've made, saying it just "sounds worse" when you haven't even heard how it sounds before.

How ironic for you to say this in a post that makes claims without backing them up

It's my own personal experience. I made a recommendation within his budget of $500. Feel free to do so as well if you disagree with me.

Dunno, wasn't me. I was just annoyed with you posting an article claiming something, reading it and seeing something completely different. I don't even own a NFB-11, I just think you're full of shit.

I like Banshee, for the interface. Separate panes for artists, albums, and songs. That's pretty much all I care about.

>shilling products you own for the sake of reassuring yourself that you made the right purchase decision
I'm not sure why you even think you can claim the amp and DAC are better when you're using nothing more than anecdotal evidence.
>>
>>60150014
I said none of that. If your amplifiers make the set of headphones sound different, you have one or two shitty amplifiers. Headphones and masters obviously differ. You fix the headphone's sound by equalization, masters not so much as their problems are much more complex than frequency magnitude differences. It's a also not the job of your setup to even try to somehow compensate for production track by track basis.

Either. I most likely wont be taking these out of my room much

10/10 or as close as I can get in my price range. This is the most important factor for me. I get headaches easily, so something that doesnt put too much pressure on my skull, is a necessity. Will be worn for hours at a time, so factor that in as well

Thanks!

That's pretty nice, I'll check it out although I gave up on the desktop after an hour. This is barely related to headphones though so I'll gtfo now

is this just a meme or should I get it?
only planning to drive 32-80 ohm headphones and my chink IEMs
>>
>>60158392
Higher impedance = easier to drive

Higher impedance = generally lower voltage sensitivity although there are exceptions to this, too. To counter lowered sensitivity you need more voltage swing but there isn't anything else you need to worry about.

Generally you never need to know the impedance of your headphones. You just need their voltage sensitivity which the impedance does not give.

Why are you considering that?

I would give fair credits to Audeze for focusing on the $300-1000 market for the past year or so. Apparently the LCD Pro is going to be priced similarly to the classic LCD2 as well so that's nice.

Tech illiterate here, my logitech g35 just broke, and I could use some advice on what to buy this time.

I'll be using them mainly for videogames and music, so no need for amazing sound quality. However, I'll be using them A LOT, so they would need to be comfortable, and as durable as possible. That said:

>Budget: ~100€ max
>Location: Spain
>Source: PC. Videogames, music, movies, skype... Nothing special
>Type: Full sized, closed. Noise cancelling a big plus
>Comfort level: Comfort>Sound quality. I don't want earrape either, but you get the idea.
>Past headphones: Tritton AX180, Logitech G35. Both broken at the band, even though I'm quite careful.

In short:
100€, comfortable, strong, noise cancelling, mic?
