As long as you're happy having an incredibly slow fileserver it's perfect. The network speed is limited by processor/bus and you're going to further limit i/o by USB. Other than that it works fine.

It's not about not having the cash on hand, it's about a very real chance of getting it stolen/badly damaged.
I was already about to shill out over 1000€, but decided against it for those reasons.

A cheap device getting destroyed/stolen would just make me annoyed.

Basically I just need something to whip out on train/bus/plane/park/pub and not give a single fuck if something bad happens to it. Keeping it under 400€ ensures that sort of attitude.

ASUS L502SA seems like a nice option as well but it comes with a 500GB HDD and that sounds worse than 32GB of eMMC.
