So, these guys are trying to get an open Windows clone up and running.

What's the prognosis here? Is there actually an opportunity to have something running Win programs natively, trimmer than Win7, with support for current-gen hardware?

They've been working on their XP clone since XP was new, and haven't reached 1.0

When will 1440p 144hz monitors become more common? there are only like 8 currently available and their all around $600. There are a couple of Korean monitors that are 60hz but can be overclocked to around 100hz thatre only about $200.
also when will we get a 1440p 144hz HDR monitor? they announced a 4k one and still no 2k?
are we still a couple of years off?

I got an Acer 1440p 144hz monitor for less than £300. Yeah it's Acer but relatively inexpensive monitors do exist with those specs.

This kind of excuse will keep popping up unless Linus or somebody else will make a stand and says: "Yes. We are responsible."
Linux isnt technically completely free software. Yes, it doesn't cost any money. But time is money too, so what is the real cost? I think that should be considered before we simply tell people "hey linux is free as in beer!"

Why cant linux devs make a GUI framework that works across all distros? That is literally in their power: Offer a KERNEL api that works across all distros by the simple fact that it's a kernel graphics api, so everyone will have it.
I'm going to ask linus why he doesnt add a gui framework to the kernel.
The general linux response seems to be "do a pull request lol". Such a toxic response.

9 out of 10 times, when i create a bug they just say "wont fix, this is intended / too much work / we dont care"
linux is not just a kernel, it's a community
The problem is that linux issues dont get solved at all in a satisfactory manner for the user.
They should care about the product that USES their kernel too, because ultimately it is their problem when nobody ends up using linux as a kernel anymore
android had the negative effect that linux devs can now keep pointing fingers and say "see: it's popular somewhere so that means we are doing okay!"

You're wasting your time. There's a reason Linux still has 2% desktop marketshare.
>>
>>60279824
because it's a kernel you fucking numbskull

would you like the government to tell you what color you have to paint your house?
>>
A kernel graphics api is never going to happen. By your logic why not add a browser to the kernel? Or media player? Or pid 1. It's just that this is not its job.

Serious question for driod users.

I've been Apple for ever but considering the possibility of going to a Note.

But, I'm curious about the differences. Without fanboying for either brand what are the benefits of going Android?

In Apple I can:

>set wallpapers
>create folders
>set widgets
>set notifications

So on, what can I do with a driod especially a Note that I can't with iPhone? I don't give about setting batman themes or anything like that.

I know Notes can do split screens, app in apps, and so on which Apple can't do. But what else can it do.

Keep in mind I'm a power user in the sense of using device for practically everything, but I'm not into "rooting" or anything like that.

Install whatever APKs you want, even stuff not on the crapp store
Install your own launcher
Have fine tuned control over what's running in the background with apps like Greenify
Have fine tuned control over connections with Leandroid
>>
you can change User interface from lock screen to fonts (like themes ,softkeys design and skeys order )

+ you can use a lot of witgets (for apps, system control even create custom widget (like for temperature and clock monitoring))
>>
>>60279413
Don't buy Samshit or you'll be dissapointed.

>I'm not into "rooting" or anything like that
Then stay with an iPhone really and i don't mean it as an insult, i'd rather have an iPhone than unrooted Android.

You could probably fry anything with enough electromagnetic force, it's certainly not going to come from a car battery sized box.

whats a tech field a NEET like me can get into. starting community college this summer
6 posts and 1 images submitted.

Your friend has no idea what he's talking about. There is more to being a software engineer than coding. You need to be able to communicate ideas, teach and learn from your coworkers, etc. Not only that but no one has any idea how Bombay University compares to NYU. This is why American companies hire American software engineers.
>>
don't get into M$ .net if you don't wanna compete with poo in loo's

M$ literally funds India's tech programs to teach .net there and act like it's the holy language of programming, then the poo in loos come over to the US and take jobs.
>>

>There is more to being a software engineer than coding

>Le people skills maymay

Tell me, why would I hire someone who takes 4 hours to complete a task over some autist that takes only one hour?

How do we keep our devices safe?

I for the most part avoided tech like smartphones because of the security issues, but that kind of life is becoming unlivable if ya wanna make an impact in our culture.

So how does one participate in the digital world without becoming a victim of it?
