The new internet master race.

Don't care what it is under the hood or what new technologies it's employing
It will fail and be quickly forgotten
>>60590357
>It will fail and be quickly forgotten
Not true.
I'm trying to find out when and why one is decisively better or more appropriate, but I can't find any solid information. What would be most appropriate for something like GitLab or Bitbucket for <25 users?
flip a coin. if you don't like the result then pick postgres and don't wasting time on researching this because both are good enough
for less than 25 people, literally anything would work, probably even sqlite
probably postgres because it has way more features, especially bson querying, that you may want to use in the future
>>60590482
>ly even sqlite
>probably postgres because it has way more features, especially bson querying, that you may want to use in the future
Despite having only used mariaDB in the past, I am kind of leaning towards PostgreSQL for this because they explicitly recommend it. Their arguments weren't very convincing though so I thought I'd ask before committing to one over the other. Their documentation suggest switching databases is exceptionally difficult for some reason.
What kind of people are involved in writing all the invasive and obnoxious shit in Windows 10? Other than all the tracking and monitoring I mean shit like changing settings back to "Microsoft approved" settings, changing default programs back to Windows 10 built-ins, uninstalling programs that you installed, and rolling back your drivers.
Who sits back and nods yes when asked to write this invasive shit that takes control of your computer out of your hands? They're developers on the fucking Windows team, why not take that experience, tell MS to fuck off and go work somewhere else?

Any recordists/ producers here?
thinking of getting a pair of Studio Projects CS5's as a personal pair of mid/entry level mics. Anyone have any thoughts or experiences?
Also general recording gear/ audio thread
Pic related.
I'm gonna throw a general question out there.
If I don't have headphones that need "driven" with a lot of power (i.e., low ohm rating), would I still benefit from an external DAC or amplifier?
Asking because I like Sony MDRs, and wondering if I can improve the sound despite it already being at adequate level from the computer
>>60589377
lol
depends on how shitty your source DAC/amp is. The one on my thinkpad t430 is total shit so I always use an external amp/dac. If you have a macbook, or another computer that happens to have a good built in dac/amp you're probably fine. you're also probably fine if you're asking this question as this means you can't really tell (It only matters if it bothers you)
>>60589293
I'm looking into a pair of Rode NT5 for recording piano and stuff.
What do you need microphones for? Which instruments?
>>60589377
Headphones with impedance over 80 ohms will need more power than a standard PC or cellphone can provide, so you'll probably need an amp. You can use MDR-7506 or MDR-V6 fine without an amp, though.
Windows 10 is better than Linshit

This. While loops are much more economical.while (condition || if_false() && false) {

okay, i've always been a winfag so i have little to no familiarity with gnulinux aside from installation and package managers
i'm interested in it because i want to tinker the fuck out of it
what i'm trying to figure out is how the fuck things are rendered to the screen
i know that x11 server allows clients to render to the display, and window managers are x clients that define ui components that can be rendered to x and blah blah blah blah
i'm far more interested in how the x server itself interacts with graphics drivers in order to utilize the display
is the x server the sole way to interact with the display, or can software be written to circumvent the x server entirely and interface with the graphics driver directly?
say, for example, i'm making a game. obviously graphics apis like opengl or vulkan are used for the actual 3d calculations, but how do i put it on the screen? what options are available to me?
for this example, this game is all this machine is meant to do. there is no need for a desktop environment or anything. ideally, in this scenario, i would want my game to output to the display itself without any middleman, so as to avoid any overhead the x server/client protocol would incur let alone any overhead from a window manager if i have to go through that as well.
is that even possible in a gnulinux environment? fuck if i know forgive me if im a retard
:(

Everything you asked is the X11 and Wayland wikipedia articles.
Now install gentoo.

Shitty laptop
is worth $750?
>HP envy 15t
>i7 7560U with iris plus graphics
>15" 4k matte display (non touch)
>8 GB (2 dimm)
>256 GB ssd (+ extra 2.5" bay)
thinking about jumping on memorial day sale. also some nice deals on thinkpads.
what do?
Handle it. Feels like complete shit, and you'll see the laptop bend and creak as you type on it. It'll wobble sitting flat on a desk and you can press it down on the corners so it's flat again.
thats a pretty competitive price, just know HP laptops have dogshit build qualty as >>60588416
said.
I have one and the screen was hotglued to the chassis and now it's falling off
>>60588416
>handle it
meaning you've handled it?
2017 version? is it that bad? don't see many complaints about build quality on the 2016 model. can't find much on the 2017 model.
I made a reddit account and treid to post in the gamedev forum asking basically why no one uses libgdx and i got shadowbanned. Seriously wtf is wrong with that place those people are psychopaths . I need to vent. Does anyone here know?
Libgdx is basically the only option after unity and ue4. Its the biggest non proprietary engine thing. And no one uses it and i would like to know why
>>60588286

My old man's Samsung 60" 1080p Smart-TV just broke.
He's looking to replace it with 60" or larger, 1080p, supreme picture quality at the given resolution, and no smart-tv shit to jack up the price.
I'm drowning in 4k meme televisions everywhere I look. What's the best there is that isn't garbage at Walmart?
get 4k, it makes a *huge* difference

stay away from vizio, OP. mine just crapped out on me after only 2+ years of 3 - 4 hours of use per day.
on a side note, do HDTVs have bad input lag if you're using them for console gaming, or only if you use them as PC monitors?
