ECS and Elitegroup are good enough for non overclocking.
>>
Im currently using MSI, Havent had any issues so far, I've also used Gigabyte, no issues there either.

I've used Intel and have had good experiences during Conroe and Sandy Bridge era. Can't say much for it now with delid issue, and AMT hardware backdoor.

Is a CS textbook from 2001 still relevant today? I have a basic understanding of programming. I wouldn't call myself an expert of Java, but I know the basics of the language and have a bit of experience with programming. Is a book this old still a good source to expand my programming knowledge or will most of the information in here be obsolete?

Why the fuck some motherboard manufactuers put a 4 pin connector, when the fucking fan is voltage controlled.

Fucking assholes
30 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
>>60574214
Well yeah but how are you gonna voltage controle it without voltage controller?

You can underpower it,yes but result will run it at one speed, that may not be always adequate to current temperatures.
>>
>>60574290
Why put a 4 pin, when a 3 pin would be enough to work?

You expect 4 pin = PWM.
>>
>>60574305
4pin connector offer more stable voltages ®4pin™
the way it is ment to be spin.

Uh oh. Someone asked a question on /g/. Someone call the police!

Seriously though, OP, don't expect answers to literally any question on /g/. Learning things is literally against board rules. Try a random board like /r9k/ or /b/. And no, I'm not joking. Blue boards are useless cancer. You have a significantly higher chance of getting a helpful answer from just a plain old dump board.

I have been making websites for small businesses using Wordpress Themes, but I want to learn coding so I actually know what I am doing.

Where do I start? I see a lot of job applications asking for Javascript, HTML, and CSS. Should I learn those three?

Should I just do Code Academy?
16 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
yeah doesn't really matter where you start. just get the fundamentals and start making shit.
>>
I only know about HTML, so in regards to that, this is what I used:
https://www.w3schools.com/html/
I've been wanting to learn JS and CSS too, though, so any good sources would be appreciated!
>>
do freecodecamp.com

Much more real life and practical but don't get overwhelmed by how large it is
One step at a time.
Also, i'd just start applying for free internships, you'll learn a whole lot more that way than by codecademy etc.

Also, if you can, buy a book that teaches you problem solving, because most of these online sites only teach you syntax and language constructs.
Introduction to C++ by Diane Zak is great, especially the first 2-3 chapters. It teaches you a basic way of solving problems usually abbreviated as IPO (input, processing, output).
Even though the book is in C++, you can easily apply the principles to JS

Also, checkout Khan Academy's Javascript courses, they teach you things like sorting, merging, Big O etc. which is much more applicable in real life, specially interviews.

Try signing up for firecode.io, it'll give you good practice for the type of questions asked in interviews

That's about it.
Also, learn from my mistake, don't just read but DO.
Google for opensource javasript projects, small ones in the beginning, maybe by individual contributors and go through code and just code something similar by yourself

Basically, don't just read but actually code.
Also, read up on SOLID principles, Standford has great free set of courses on SQL but all that will come in due time.

Good luck and don't give up.

CPUs:
>G4560 - budget builds (<$500) unless G4620/i3-7100 is heavily discounted
>R5 1500x - generally all you need for 60fps with power to spare. No i5
>R5 1600 - best value for higher fps gaming & mixed usage; 1600x if you don't want to OC
>i7-7700k - bad value but good; may have heat issues even at stock clocks
>R7/Xeon - compute/Multitask/mixed use

Graphics:
>G4560 iGPU is fine for LoL, dota2, rocket league, etc
>1050Ti at ~$105. Drop settings if not Freesync/Gsync on newer games; RX560 if discounted
>RX570 4GB - 1080p@60+hz, running most maxed; older games at 144+hz
>RX580 8GB - 1440p@60+hz, inject SMAA & drop settings for some games
>1060 - Generally outperformed by the RX 580 and GSync costs more; consider only if AMD is not an option (ie CUDA)
>1070 - 1080p@144hz/1440p@100+hz
>1080 - 1080p@90-144+hz maxed; 1440p at lower hz.
>1080Ti - 1440p@90-144+hz; 4k@60hz in SOME games, more at lower settings
>Freesync2 & Vega soon

General:
>READ PRODUCT REVIEWS to see if that cheap SSD/PSU or whatever is reliable
>Consider larger SSD-only for what you budget SSD+HDD combined. Add HDD later once needed
>NVMe aren't for faster OS boot. They're primarily for productivity as a scratch disk
>Stop fucking confusing any M.2 drive with NVMe. M.2 is a form factor
>Go mATX form factor for cheaper board+case
>1 SR DIMM is slower than 2 DIMMs

Oldfag reporting
Please help me with my memory problem.
I hve an old 32-bit Win7 machine thatI need to run old software for my business, and that I literally cannot afford to replace/upgrade, and anyway I lack the brain cells to work out how to get the old software onto a new OS/machine.
Pic related is memory problem: 4G System reserved. Next couple of posts will show what I've done from googling solutions but I haven't got anywhere.
Thanks for your help /g/
Also, please be kind as I am so stupid that if you tell me to do something that will will my machine I ill probably do it...

Specs:
>INTEL CORE i7 920 D0 Stepping
>GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD3R DESKTOP BOARD rev 1.6 flashed to FC
>GEIL 6GB KIT EVO ONE C9 2000Mhz (triple channel)

Bios OC:
>Timings to 9-9-9-28
>BCLK to 166
>Sys Mem multiplier to 12.0
>Performance enhance to Standard
>Disabled EIS, Virtual Tech, C1, XMP
>DRam voltage to 1.64V
>CPU VCore 1.275 (manual)
>QPI/Vtt 1.175V (auto)
>IOH Core 1.1V (auto)

This gives: QPI of 6.0GHz; CPUFreq of 3.33; Mem 2000MHz

This config has passed hours of OCCT and memtest86 with no errors.
